I think "whoops, my leadoff guy accidentally doubled or homered again" is a good problem to have
-
I do think Robert projects long-term as a better leadoff hitter than TA but he is not that player yet. He still has some adjusting to do. TA is doing a fine job, and as much as I hate to use cliches like this, he brings a certain energy to the lineup and they're different with him in there.

Ok I'm dumb, was there supposed to be a game tonight and it got kicked to tomorrow and there's going to be a doubleheader? -

I sleep in the daytime and this game will be probably in the 7th or 8th inning by the time I'm up -
Nope, he's all turned around now. Pitchers have figured out how to turn his aggression against him, he is gonna have to start laying off pitches to make them stop
-
I was just thinking about Stone's old white ass bobbing his head to it and it made me think of my dad, and I was like "well, I guess it's possible"
-
I do have full confidence he'll adjust fine, he's way too talented to be taken down by a single flaw like that. But the pitchers are killing him right now.
-
He could also... just... I dunno, not swing at every single slider he sees?
-
TA's presence seems to bring life to this lineup.

I don't understand major-league players who do it. There's no tactical advantage gained, all you have to do is beat the throw.

The other day during a broadcast Jason said something about how Steve's favorite song was "Regulate" and I don't know if that was true but it made me bust out laughing to picture it.

I'm ready to pre-order the PS5 and/or the Xbox Series X but Microsoft and Sony are in this weird stare-down over who announces the price first. Microsoft wants to undercut whatever Sony's price is and Sony knows this, and they don't wanna let them do it
-
Man this team is straight up unwatchable right now. Except it's not like the past few years where you knew what you were getting with a bunch of barely replacement-level players, there are actual good players on the rosters now so it's more frustrating.

I know it's a cliche thing to complain about umps but the home plate umps seem especially bad this year. I dunno, is it that the strike zone is visible on the screen?

The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
lostfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I thought this article was fair, honestly. His ceiling is like... Mike Trout, Ken Griffey Jr., but whether he gets there as a hitter depends on a few things, and his current level of plate discipline ain't it. The current book on him that every pitcher has right now is to throw breaking stuff off the outside corner because he'll swing at anything. This is a hurdle of his he's gonna have to overcome otherwise his batting average is unsustainable. -
This offense can hit, but they haven't been scoring for the past week and the games are just so boring. At least the pitching problems early in the season were just an aberration.

The LEGEND of Luis Robert ESPN feature article
lostfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah, I do remember Frank's early years but I was definitely too young at the time to know anything about minor league prospects. That's why I said "I have seen" because I originally typed "the White Sox have ever had" and I know that was too strong a statement -
Absolutely, got a legitimate leadoff hitter and 8-9 aren't gaping holes
-
2006 was the year I was thinking of, with Konerko-Thome-Dye-Crede but dare I say Robert-Moncada-Abreu-Jimenez will be better
-
Robert, Moncada, and Jimenez could conceivably hit 100-120 (in a full season) just between the three of them before you even get to guys like Abreu, Grandal, Anderson, Encarnacion, etc.
-
Jayson Nix comes to mind, one of the better infielders I'd ever seen at the time but mediocre hitter, but he managed to squeak out a career of about 8 years (though I think Madrigal projects a lot higher than Nix as a hitter)
-
I do understand why people didn't like the Madrigal pick but the framing of the whole thing is really blowing it out of proportion, I think. People do the same thing in the NFL draft, just on a different scale ("I think Player X is fine I just don't like taking him with the 14th pick") but it really... just doesn't matter? The comparison isn't really between *just* "probably above average player" and "guy who had a 30 WAR career" it's just as likely to be "probably above average" and "total bust who never makes it past AAA."
