The idea behind acquiring Doyle is the same as Vargas. See if they can fix some of his flaws and turn him into a valuable OF option. Guy puts up anywhere near a 100 wRC+ and he's a valuable player with his defense. Maybe they could've grabbed him in the offseason, maybe not. Take him now, get to know him, help him out more this offseason and see if you can get something valuable for a guy who likely is gonna suck in the majors and be a decent reliever at best.

Gausman had a no trade here so it's a moot point anyway.

They already have Grichuk who does the same thing. I guess you could play Adell in right but he's terrible on defense. You could DH him but then they're carrying 2 DHs with him and Benintendi. He just wasn't a great fit and he absolutely cannot hit righties.

Guardians had the much better deadline...got J.Ramirez back and added Genao, more pennant race experience/pitching and Colson/Mune both struggling. Pretty even odds at this point IMO. Unless Teel looks like his second half version last year...but that's not something anyone can reliably count on.

I didn’t want Adell either but he was better than Doyle last year with a 1.2 bWAR. He is also doing well with the Guardians currently. It’s okay to admit that the Guardians’ outfielder trade deadline acquisition was better than Getz’s.

No, you wouldn't have rather have Adams, because he would have pitched his first game, threw 4 mediocre innings, then you would have whined about how he sucks. Adell was a negative bWAR player with the Angels this year and has put up the STELLAR fWAR lines of 0.5, 1.2, 0.1, 0.2, -0.2, 0.1 and -1.4 in his career. At least Doyle has an actual decent season under his belt. 🤣

Fedde has to start out of necessity. I don't think he was bad as a bullpen arm, but the Sox don't have many bullets for the starting rotation. If the playoffs started today, Anthony Kay is your 2 and Sean Burke is your 1. That's insane. What's more insane is my thoughts - Go full blown youth and supplement with age. Fedde Smith Burke Martin Kay Use Schulz as a swing guy at this point. Sox must pick up starting pitching the hour they are eliminated from the playoffs. They simply can't do this going into next year. I would trade Colson for a starter if I could. if Seattle didn't have Colt Emerson, I would think they would be interested.
