So Ohtani makes more than the white sox team combined. Elite company to be in.
-
Whether you are right or wrong, look at @fathom‘s post of players and your own. Which players do you think the Sox are more likely to add?
-
FINANCIAL FLEXIBILITY!
-
Its funny how obvious it is once you think about it.
-
Literally lol
-
But I've yet to top "Vinny Capra is better than Shane Smith because the Brewers rostered Capra and not Smith". I'll keep trying, though.
-
Never considered before but someone here said it... sox picked up Robert option to save themselves 2 million..that makes more sense than everything else. Hilarious to think about. Guess it's only 1.5 million in saving after trade
-
I'm not following your logic here. Your statement about the chain of events making your head hurt is based on a hypothetical that you clearly stated right from your opening word "If". "IF there was any better offer than this past trade deadline ,then Getz fucked up royally". Your exact quote. So, conversely if there wasn't a better offer then Getz didnt f*** up , right ? This might be the best offer he got in 2 yrs despite his hand being shown to the whole league. We've had a lot of discussion here about choosing to pick up the option. I dont think I agreed with it at the time because I thought it was throwing good money after bad and other GMs thinking it's very likely JR will not increase payroll that Getz wouldn't be able to get a GM to buy into the upside argument . You can't play a hand if everyone knows the cards you're holding .But I understod why with the options in CF so limited this offseason that Robert could look enticing for a year IF demand outweighed supply. Unfortunately once Murakami signed that seemed to force Getz's hand even more. That development changed things. I think Getz got very lucky to get the full salary and buyout paid for and get interesting bodies too. Like Heyman said the decision to pick up the option paid off but not in any way that might help with wins and losses this year unless Baldwin, Acuna , Pereira et al can step up into the large OF voids and produce a couple WAR But it could help future years if you factor in Murakami could be a better future trade piece than Robert. Those 2 deals are definitely tied together.

Tony arm never bounced back after all the injuries. Think hes washed but hed be way better than the other bums listed.
-
Eddy is so funny, swear to god. This guy was just spending days telling us Getz actually wasnt trying to trade Robert and would hold team hostages for his talent.
-
Surprised to see how decent Verlander was last year. Still don't really want him nor Scherzer. The latter spends a good amount of time on IL these days. I like the Gonsolin idea on a 1-year (or with option) deal to try to flip later. Injuries have hurt him the last few years though
-
I hope not. Those would be a signings just to sign. Overall, they would likely make things worse. Do a deal with Gonsolin; give him some $$ this year and some club options for next 2. Or sign one or both of Verlander and Scherzer to a 1/$20, with the promise that we’ll trade them to a contender in July.
-
Yep. Robert is far from perfect and probably wasn’t going to be here long term anyway. But the framing of this whole thing is ridiculous.
-
The framing is absurd. You know what else would bring "financial flexibility"? 40 million more allocated to payroll.
-
Yes, but trading Robert to create “financial flexibility” when they have like a $65 million payroll is not something that should be praised.
-
Do you know who the owner is?
-
This is a pipe dream. At best, they will hide him at DH more.
-
That's where I am. They probably didn't see that big a difference between what the Reds were offering for a bought down contract and what the Mets took the whole contract for. That, and maybe Getz saw an opportunity on the market that wasn't going to be there soon, so he moved on Robert.
-
Sucks the only one left to stir any crap is Cowley and mostly focuses on stupid rumors rather than hammering home again and again how cheap JR is.
-
NorthbrookBob hasn’t recovered from his New Year’s party when he was out boozing with Getz and they were talking about the Murakami signing. Getz had one too many Shirley Temples and told NorthbrookBob, “Hell, I may just sign all of these Japanese guys. Even that pitcher Imai too!” NorthbrookBob took Getz at his word and reported it that night. Getz then told NorthbrookBob that it was just the Shirley Temples talking so he had to retract it minutes later.
-
Do whatever it takes now to move Benintendi to open more at bats for the guy who are already going to find it tough to find at bats
-
Sure, but this is a JR joint. Can't get fooled again. Just hope he turns over the team ASAP.
-
It’s driving me nuts to see Merkin and all these other beat reporters posting these fluff pieces and tweets about having “financial flexibility” now that Robert is gone. Their payroll was one of the lowest even with him. What a load of crap.
