  1. It was more a question about newspapers just outsourcing areas of sports reporting. I made it a bit extreme by picking Mike, a Twitter personality who offers more analysis than reporting, but I picked him because he's here, and a person most everyone would know whom I was talking about. thanks
  2. Sure, I get your argument. I've got 30 years, tops, on this Earth. I'm a fan of a team. I may have 15-20 years of being able to get to games and enjoy the experience. It would be a full-time job to research the corporate philosophies of every product I consume. I'd have to pretty much stop listening to music, or even consume any popular media, as there's always nefarious people behind the scenes. I fully support you in not watching bad baseball. I want you to not watch bad baseball. When I'm looking for perfection, I'll go see the ballet.
  3. Yeah, I grabbed Mike as an example of "online person who writes articles on the Sox", not to disparage him. So it's branding and quality control. I also surmise that if you're paying an outside guy, there's enough of a supply to not have to pay an editor to call for major rewrites and such. Pick a newspaper on Facebook, and half of the articles they post are from other sources (fox, CNN), rather than in house.
  4. Looking at the media landscape, you probably made the right choice.
  5. Bad form. If you're going to openly mock somebody, have the balls to explain what you think is so funny. i suppose I'll figure out a way to ask my original question from someone who actually might know the answer.
  6. I guess I don't understand your original comment. Yes, when you're talking about going to a ball game, it is a choice to talk about going to an individual game compared to thinking meta about "supporting the team". Calling that "an interesting choice" seems to mock a simple decision of what to do with one's evening.
  7. Tuff Turf was one of those films for me. Some friends and I were near another group of guys, and we traded Mystery Science Theater-type quips the entire movie.
  8. Can you explain the joke? Not picking on Mike, but I'm guessing that the union agreement keeps The Sun-Times from outsourcing local sports coverage to a blogger-level guy in exchange for a press pass and a nominal article fee. Because at this point, newspapers are beyond a dying industry. Whatever papers are left are like random dudes scavenging cities in a post-apocalyptic world. Maybe it's the wording. Why wouldn't a paper just outsource coverage of a local team to save money?
  9. Yes, a baseball game is an event that is a blast to attend on a nice summer night. It is a choice to do something you enjoy without maintaining some meta-anger and pretending to be a connoisseur of men playing a game flawlessly. It is a choice to be a grump and mock people who won't think the way you do.
  10. Gavin Sheets was also a 2nd rounder. Is that something you should never let go of?
  11. Vaughn, Rojas, Vargas, Sosa, not exactly a "murderer's row", more like a "cause deaths by irritating and embarrassing means" row.
  12. And the Cardinals seem as frustrated as Getz was getting fair value for Fedde.
  13. Tyler Black was a name being thrown out as an upper piece from the Brewers in theoretical Garret Crochet trades. I really don't have anything beyond that to offer in this comment.
  14. I believe that's a 1-1 with runners in scoring position. Feel shame, no more, Sox fans!!
  15. I hope Leasure's Dad brought an extra cassette for the camcorder. 24 pitches. Sox fans sure got their money's worth of Leasure. I think both had been doing well this spring.
  16. I click into Gameday, and see they're playing extra inning rules, and Jordan Leasure has spotted the Brewers the man on 2nd base.
