These guys play every day. If they're not in a scheduled game, I'm pretty sure they're in drills and B-games in the morning. I think Bergolla has solidly put himself on the map in the middle infield picture.

As a 3rd rounder, the guy was always a dude. He just needed to return from the injury.

I thought it would be Davis Martin, but sure, throw the guy with stuff. I suppose the online people who were really concerned about Martin Perez being brought in to start opening day can calm down (not here, as much as Twitter).

I wish him more strikeouts than walks and HRs in this new endeavor.

Lipcius moving over to 1B, and 2024 5th round pick Sam Antonacci getting the start at 2B. Some of the FutureSox guys just love this dude.

He seems to have firmly ensconced himself on the radar with his work this spring.

I wonder if Gallo saw his name in this lineup then demanded his release.

1) Again, you don't need GG level infielders to play a baseball game. Meidroth played a lot of shortstop last year. He'll be fine as a stopgap. 2) Dribblers always get through the infield. Coaching will just have to lean heavier into the statistical positioning. Drury was better than league average at 2B in 2023. 3) If Meidroth and Drury/Sosa are sure-handed, you don't need Francisco Lindor at short. This team's going to lose 100+ games. If you're complaining about "trying to eke out one more win in April" with certain roster decisions, aren't you doing the same thing by kvetching over "guys playing at their strongest positions"? I do think the rotation will be fine. Everybody forgets how horrible Flexen/Soroka/Nastrini/Cannon were in their first runs through the rotation. 4) I'll agree with you on this point.

I'm surprised Ramos isn't playing in the breakout game. I was just noticing how Julks hasn't started for a while. Maton gets to continue to make his case. I'd proffer that most of the teams in the league are playing some form of musical chairs, not playing guys "in their strongest positions" in order to get bats in the lineup, extend careers, or strike a balance of lesser evils. Monty started 3 games at SS this spring. It seems like the team has a couple of options they're deciding between in Amaya (glove-first) or Meidroth (OBP). You don't have to start a Gold Glove winner at each position. You can start a slightly above average glove at SS and still be ahead of the game.

Nice roundup of what the final bullpen is starting to look like over at SoxMachine. I don't like rooting against players. Clevinger could really grab his elbow on the next pitch he throws, and I'd be pretty happy. The White Sox bullpen is taking the first of its shapes

Neither would the players. It's a negotiated contract. There are a lot of items in the agreement that on the face, might seem like easy issues to take off the table. But if one side really wants that in principle, it becomes a bargaining chip. They whittle away at it, make that last year expensive. They start arbitration earlier for the most egregious examples. The current service time environment has been crafted by both sides for their own particular purposes. Some clauses might be happy accidents for one party, but overall, the owners like the system because it allows them enough control to plan for, while the players like how free agency is set up to limit supply of the high-end players to force up their salaries.

Do the Sox even do this? When you look at our recent history of first rounders, I think we'd all be in agreement that guys like Crochet, Madrigal, Vaughn and even Carson Fulmer were clearly rushed to the bigs. And with the current crop of prospects, Getz seems to be giving long thought of breaking camp with a top prospect in order to get the extra draft pick if they rank in the ROY voting. I seriously think Carlos Rodon was the last real prospect where this was even an issue. While the Cubs were openly jerking Kris Bryant around, the Sox were trying not to rush Rodon. Boras, who represented both, screamed about Bryant's treatment, while saying publicly they had no problem with the White Sox' plan for Rodon.

I'd hope Meidroth's following the Burke game. He's playing in it. Two outfielders are injured, still. If they carry 5, Fletcher' in consideration.
