Nicky Lopez to the Angels.

Moniak
It seems that Moniak figured out his own weaknesses, fixed it, then the league adjusted back to him. Our guys aren't even that far on their own individual pro journeys.

Yeah, Andrew Miller was a great pick. Never mind the fact that Clayton Kershaw was the very next pick, and Max Scherzer was 3 picks after that. Good on Dombrowski for trading a highly ranked prospect in a package for Willis' salary.

2025 MLB season...catch-all for non-Sox, non AL-Central
I'm clowning on the meme. But yeah, Baltimore probably could have built a reasonable package around Norby for Fedde.

Everybody's an expert with 18 years of hindsight. Miller and Maybin were both top ten prospects. Badenhop and Trahern were live arms. That was a good return for Cabrera, AND they got the Tigers to take on Dontrelle Willis' contract. The main point is that Dombrowski's high first rounders (beyond Verlander taken at #2) weren't really impact stars. It's great that he packaged a bunch of them to get Cabrera while taking on Dontrelle's huge albatross of a contract. Miggy stopped producing in 2017 and stuck around for another 6 years. He was a centerpiece of that 2019 114-loss team, and the Tigers kept Al Avila as GM for another 4 years after that. I guess other teams don't fire their GMs either after a horrible season that scrapes the bottom of physically possible loss totals.

Well, it's a deep draft this year where any of a half dozen guys could go #1, and there will still be great bats available at #10. I'm not sure how you think Getz should have "planned" differently. They were always going to be awful in 2024. He took over with about 5-6 weeks left in the 2023 season. And as for Miller, that's kind of like saying Jim Thome was traded to the White Sox for Daniel Haigwood without mentioning Rowand and Gio Gonzalez. Miller was one of a boat load of prospects sent to Miami for Cabrera.

I'm glad you mentioned the draft. Looking at Dombrowski's early 1st rounders with the Tigers, outside of that one pick, his early first rounders kind of sucked. Kyle Sleeth at #3 overall? Andrew Miller? Scott Moore? Jacob Turner? Seems like Dave Dombrowski's genius was in picking an owner who wanted to spend tons of money on free agency. year rd pick bWAR 2015 1 34 Christin Stewart (minors) OF -1.1 4Yr 2014 1 23 Derek Hill (minors) OF -0.2 HS 2013 1 20 Jonathon Crawford (minors) RHP 4Yr 2013 1 39 Corey Knebel (minors) RHP 5.5 4Yr 2010 1s 44 *Nick Castellanos (minors) 3B 14 HS 2010 1s 48 *Chance Ruffin (minors) RHP -0.5 4Yr 2009 1 9 Jacob Turner (minors) RHP -2.6 HS 2008 1 21 Ryan Perry (minors) RHP 0.2 4Yr 2007 1 27 Rick Porcello (minors) RHP 18.8 HS 2007 1s 60 *Brandon Hamilton (minors) RHP HS 2006 1 6 Andrew Miller (minors) LHP 7.7 4Yr 2005 1 10 Cameron Maybin (minors) OF 13.4 HS 2004 1 2 Justin Verlander (minors) RHP 80.5 4Yr 2003 1 3 Kyle Sleeth (minors) RHP 4Yr 2002 1 8 Scott Moore (minors) SS -0.8 HS

Boy, there's a trade that has turned to complete garbage for the Marlins.

Dave Dombrowski missed by one loss in 2003.

Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Why? Rojas just posted his 2nd highest bWAR in his career last year. In the "offense suppressing" environment of Seattle. Michael A. Taylor still plays plus defense.

Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Haniger contributes nothing to any "semblance of an offense". Dude's done.

How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
They did make the playoffs in 2020 and 2021. Look it up.

How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
Why would Paddy deserve credit for the White Sox being in the Central division?
-
How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
Eloy,, Kopech, Cease, Robert. Those players still came through under Getz. Burger did not "develop almost completely on his own". Madrigal and Vaughn were both rushed through their "development". Many of the upper picks, like Pilkington, Steele Walker, Luis Gonzalez were traded before making their Chicago debuts. Davis Martin and Romy Gonzalez were right in the middle of Getz's period as director.

Dave Dombrowski. He spent one year as Director of Player Development in Montreal before being appointed GM. The rules were set for the 2020 season, then they made the playoffs. With a core that were partially developed under Getz. Then they went back to the playoffs in 2021. Nobody needs to apologize for that.

Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Looking at the stats, I would have to disagree.
-
How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
Counterpoint: Getz did develop the best players brought into the system, comprising a core that resulted in a two year run of playoff appearances. Many Player Development Directors have achieved less and went on to become General Managers.

Pitchers get injured. It's not something that one can avoid.

Can you explain what parts of his job as Assistant GM Getz failed at?

Benintendi, Robert, Tauchman/Slater. Which one is Haniger better than?

And if Getz sat JR down and laid out the issues in the organization, along with his vision along with a detailed map of how he was going to achieve each of his goals, why shouldn't JR have hired him?
-
How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
Counterpoint: After 9 years in various front offices, Getz did deserve a shot at the GM job, and does deserve the benefit of the doubt. Dombrowski got his first shot at GM in Montreal after 10 years in baseball.

How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
I agree with all of this. Dombrowski was hired for his track record. Getz has yet to prove it.
-
How do you rank Chris Getz' GM tenure so far?
We're not grading Getz on what you feel he's going to do in the next 20 years. It's on what he's done so far. He's recognized and acknowledged problems in the organization and has made decisive moves to correct them. He's also identified one real strength and has leaned into it with his sole draft and off-season pitching moves. Two minor league teams have played for their league championship series and one won. Quin singled out Getz as the only GM to come close to the Mets' record. The Tigers came within a game of it. If you're grading Getz mostly on that 41-121 record, then no qualifications apply to Dombrowski's 119 loss season. And if you're going to bring up Getz' uneven record of trades, Dombrowski traded Brian Moehler and Jeff Weaver, basically, for Carlos Pena and Jeremy Bonderman. Dombrowski's early trades really didn't move the needle, either.

And in his third, just missed being the biggest failure in baseball history by 2 losses.
