xo- Sox Spring Training notes
SoxMachine podcast talking about what they saw in the first 3 games. They also touch upon the Ishbia news. Podcast: Early Observations of White Sox Spring Training- Sox Spring Training notes
He was a top 40 prospect, no options, he has to play somewhere. I'd say he has about 4 months to show he can hit.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
Jansen's strikeout rate dropped from "elite" to "very good" after his age 29 season. Closers get in for racking up saves. If Jansen sticks around for a couple more seasons, hits 500 saves he has a great argument for the HOF. Josh Hader is 2 seasons away from qualifying for the Hall of Fame, so if he's already stuck around "too long", then he's SOL.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
I'm not sure how that translates to "hanging on too long". Same with Jansen. They're both very effective relievers who are still getting paid.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
Hader's 30 years old. He had a bad 2 months in San Diego in 2022. His next 2 seasons were his normal fare.- 2025 Things to be Excited About List
Casey Saucke. 2024 4th rounder, has always hit. Didn't look overmatched in his 99 PAs in high-A. He was 2 years younger than the competition at that point.- 02/24 - Sox vs Rangers
You hit me with gap power- 02/24 - Sox vs Rangers
Mason Adams is a guy, too.- How's that Organizational Pitching Philosophy Coming Along?
Law sees Sean Burke and Shane Smith as top 25 2025 impactful rookies (as well as teel and Meidroth): The 25 MLB rookies most likely to have an impact in 2025 regular season - The Athletic 9. Sean Burke, RHP, Chicago White Sox (Top 100 Rank: Just Missed) If Burke is healthy, he clearly belongs in Chicago’s Opening Day rotation, and he might be in the middle of it. His stuff is not the issue, with a mid-90s fastball up to 99, a plus curve, and an above-average slider/cutter hybrid; he’s just always hurt, throwing 252 total innings in three-plus years in the minors. The White Sox should start him if possible, because who knows how long he can go before he’s hurt again, and at least he’ll get a major-league salary while the White Sox get what could be one of their best starters.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
And really, I'd rather watch a blown save by Kimbrel than an immaculate inning by Clevenger.- How's that Organizational Pitching Philosophy Coming Along?
SoxMachine article: Lacking the funds for strikeout stuff, White Sox building a pitching staff around weak contact and weird deliveries- 2/23 Sox vs Royals, no TV
Pallette and Taylor coming back strong make me feel better about Blake Larson's chances. Shane Smith's start today is important. There's a lot to root for and dream on in the pitching corps. I'm actually proud to be name-checked as the upper threshold of positivity, like, if I'm not rooting for a guy, he's got problems.- 2/23 Sox vs Royals, no TV
It looks like Gilbert, Eder, Taylor and Carella did well today.- 2/23 Sox vs Royals, no TV
That's a respectable 1-6 for Gilbert to run through.- Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
I don't know. Reinsdorf strikes me as "a man of his word". He's a tough negotiator, but I put him in a different category from the guy who is currently in a pissing match with Greenland. And they put on paper that control shifts in 5 years, or on Reinsdorf's demise.- Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
Not to be morbid, but there's a reason old people are considered feeble. A person could be in good health, catches the flu, and 5 days later, the whole world's changed.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
Thanks for the write up. I don't like the signing, I hope Clevenger injures himself quickly. I'd imagine this is a sop to the limited partner who parties with Clevenger. It has no effect on Getz's work on the organization. I'm out of town, and really don't want to argue with people who think it's funny to pretend that an abused woman is a liar, just because.- Mike Clevinger is back lol
You're kind of correct. I wouldn't care if they signed Bozo to play SS. It would probably be on a minor league deal. Clevenger's a POS, and I hate the signing. I won't post everyday that I hate Getz for signing him, but I don't like it. I also get tired of the a-holes who think it's funny to pretend Clevenger was "completely exonerated". He wasn't. I hope he tears his rotator cuff on his first throw, and that's the last we see of him.- Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Canario's a LF. I don't think he's knocking Taylor off the roster. I think he'd take Fletcher's or Colas' place in the "next man up" queue.- What would you want from Boston to swap Benintendi for Masataka Yoshida?
Then why do we want to trade this great 3 WAR ceiling player for Yoshida?- Off-Season Pass the Time Catch-All
Canario looks like a better package than anything the Sox have in AAAA outfielders. I wonder if Chris Getz is on the phone. Alexander Canario Minor & Winter Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com- What would you want from Boston to swap Benintendi for Masataka Yoshida?
I believe Benintendi is saying now that in July, he had settled on some mechanical changes, and it all started to click.- SoxMachine Podcast focusing on Recent James Fegan Story about Advancements.
Baseball teams aren't crunching web browsing data from entire populations. Maybe don't get caught up in the semantics of a pun by the article author? Teams crunch data on EVs and barrels based on pitch types and zones, etc. All teams do have their own proprietary models for what they're looking for, and yes, sometimes, they can be wrong. There seemed to be some dramatic disagreement last year between Pedro Grifol and the stats department on defensive positioning, for example. That was probably more on Grifol being a dimwit. - Tuesday - 2/25/25 - Sox at Rox spring training
