  1. I'm sure there were better offers that he passed on. I don't know if it's because the league wouldn't deal straight with Getz earlier in his tenure, or if Robert's reputation did it, but it always seemed like what was being reported was under what this board thought his value should be. Now, I don't know, maybe better GMs fwump their cock on the table, name 4 names and the other GM cries as their system is picked clean. Or maybe the offers were always underwhelming. Something like that team's Jacob Gonzalez and a ranked "stuff" dude who can't throw strikes. I'm pretty sure nobody would have liked a Vientos return.
  2. Are those the only options I'm allowed to think?
  3. What was my incorrect assumption? That Acuña was the first choice? His name was coming up last TDL along with Vientos, so I think he was being discussed. But sure, I'll wear that. Start out asking for Baty and McLean, then settle. I think Robert just had to go. It's 20/20 hindsight to say Getz had to move him in December of '23. Every trading period the Sox held on through lowered Robert's value. That wasn't "known" 12/23.
  4. 1) people don't get to pick their own nicknames. They could ask to not be called something. 2) nicknames should be organic. One-dog is a nice example. Pudge. The way the kid wearing a Michigan sweatshirt when the group meets him becomes "Michigan". 3) Moon, in Japanese is tsuki. Five is go. Destroyer is kuchiku-kan. (as per Google translate.) That's probably way more to work with right there than, "Gee, I notice you're Japanese. Do you mind if I call you by a fairly pedestrian stereotype of your culture?"
  5. Murakami has famously had zero hits since Schriff dropped the nickname on him. Cringe, like ...
  6. The silver lining of a complete blowout like today is that Schriffen couldn't break out his taunting HR calls, or even the surprise Kung Fu yells he might have ready for the next South Side Samurai blast.
  7. 2 outs. Let's see if we can hold them to double digits.
  8. Ishbia will probably take over, sign 3 players to huge contracts, they'll all turn into Benintendis, then he'll crank it down for a decade until those contracts clear the books. Eat at Arby's.
  9. Fouled a ball off the same foot he tweaked on the wall 2 days ago. Hope it's not broken.
  10. Holy f***!!! Scoreless inning!! Feel the Mo.
  11. These two out baserunners are getting to me.
  12. Alright!! Well executed rundown. Good coaching job.
  13. He's got 3 option years to work out his issues. I wonder if they cycle through Davitt and Cannon before bringing up the big three.
  14. SouthSideSox preview Game Thread: White Sox (1-4) at Marlins (4-1) | South Side Sox SoxMachine's pre-game note on Paez/Sims/Pallette Pregame notes: White Sox go 0-for-2 with Rule 5 picks - Sox Machine
  15. I believe the thought is that Benintendi has neutral platoon splits, AND they could just slot Sosa or Hays as a pinch-hitter if they don't like the lefty-lefty matchup.
  16. This is probably close to your best defensive lineup you can throw out there. Maybe Hill/Hays in LF, Vargas at 1B, Mune to DH. But the propeller-heads in the stats department like their platoon match-ups. I just hope the Marlins hit the ball closer to Benintendi today.
  17. And now, he will start his climb towards the Hall of Fame...
  18. Conspiracy theory - White Sox knew Paez wasn't ready, exposed him to big league hitters to broadcast that. He'll slip through waivers, then be a PTBNL in the Hicks deal.
  19. That wasn't Acuña's fault, tho. That was his ball.
  20. Welp, that was a nice 3rd inning. Fedde looked okay. Outfield defense did him in. I clicked out of the game on CHSN, then back in, and decided I wasn't going back to watch the 3 innings I skipped over. Sounds like Quero had himself a game. In ways. I think Pereira might just be their RF. Peters is okay as a 4th OF, but he's got to quell his CF instincts and let himself get called off. Pereira has done that consistently on close plays. Acuña's rough but could be fun if they work on his throwing. Paez looks overmatched. They'll probably look better with Baldwin and Teel back in the lineup. We can still win the series tomorrow.
  21. I'm watching about 4 innings behind. Either should have caught that. They both pulled up, anticipating a collision. But the ball was within a foot of Acuña's mitt. I think somebody said Acuña threw a curve ball from CF. We want the prospects to play and learn in the bigs. This is what that looks like.
