  1. Collins will definitely make it. If they are gonna squeeze 60 games into like 61 days that's rough, they will need a third catcher who can work a 1B/DH rotation with Abreu and Encarnacion esp since the division is filled with righties.
  2. If him sitting out has something to do with what "his role" was going to be this year as Fegan suggested, its debatable as to whether they handled it well or not.
  3. Why? If he clears the protocol he should be back practicing around July 17th which should give him a week to get ready. He can do more drills and extra BP after practice to get back in the groove.
  4. Lol....they got the 2019 year of service time back of course they were going to show tons of empathy.
  5. Right before the July one was gonna start I read it.
  6. I dont think there are any elbow issues. Right before camp started Coop said he was ready to go.
  7. fegan made a reference also to what his role would be....maybe service time or maybe bullpen (or both) were a factor in addition to other stuff.
  8. I can totally understand the players anger there if they said he'd be taxi squad for awhile and I don't blame him if he chose to skip 2020 in retaliation. No one is entitled to anything. The team doesn't have to give up a strategic benefit and he doesn't have to give up retaliation which could harm the team in 2020. The team isn't entitled to avoiding that. Ultimately the team has to weigh the service time benefit against any long term harm with the player. How good do u think he will be? If you project him as a star its a problem cause he will remember and sign elsewhere because many people will be rushing to pay him but if he's just ok then the benefit might outweigh the harm. Its a cold analysis but it is what it is. As I said tho I have zero problem with the idea of the player retaliating. I would totally do that too. If this is what occurred (and I have no clue if it was or if it was something else) the Sox gambled and he called their bluff.
  9. If Rodon is 100% we will be OK. 1 Giolito R 2 Rodon L 3 Cease/Lopez R 4 Keuchel L 5 Cease/Lopez R Swingman- Gonzalez
  10. Good luck to him. Let him get everything in order. We got that extra year of service time back. So 6 years of team control still, right?
  11. Even if he came back two weeks from now it sounds like he'd need at least a couple weeks practicing with the taxi squad to be ready for MLB hitters...
  12. Didn't Kopech play about a month in 2018? So we could get that year back if he isn't on the 30 man roster for like the first 10 games?
  13. Well....at least we would get last year back that way.
  14. Maybe he can at least play in the expanded AFL this fall. IMO he should also be on the taxi squad. Even if he's overmatched at least hed be getting reps and could work thru it. The Sox need him to develop as much as possible before they showcase him in the AFL as trade bait. Obviously he has no future here at either his original spot or at 1B/DH so just try to avoid selling low by getting him to increase his value.
  15. This looks pretty good except for Detwiler who might be first on the chopping block when Madrigal is brought up.
  16. Its going to be awkward seeing Vaughn outplay Abreu at 1B but Vaughn being sent down to the taxi squad anyway because of that new contract and service time.
  17. Interesting to see how Basabe looks against big leaguers if he is fully healed.
  18. I didn't see that Horn signed. Link? Edit: You are correct sir I just read Horn signed for 150k.
  19. In order for those guys to develop you basically have to create two interchangeable teams so they can play games against each other everyday. I think going up against a lineup with Vaughn, Basabe, Rutherford, Mercedes, Adolfo, Madrigal etc might be a really rough intro to minor league baseball for guys like Dahlquist, Kelley and Thompson but it's a measuring stick for their progress i guess. I think it will be good for Dunning and Stiever to see how close they are to big league baseball and Crochet also. They'll prolly throw Yolbert Sanchez in there to play SS to see if he can sink or swim against quality competition. Same with Burger. He needs to play even if it looks bad. It would be nice to see a lineup like the below against another AL or NL Central teams taxi squad. 1 Madrigal 2B (for 2 weeks) 2 Rutherford LF 3 Vaughn 1B 4 Collins C 5 Adolfo RF 6 Basabe CF 7 Sheets or Mercedes DH 8 Burger 3B 9 Sanchez SS
  20. It's gonna be really hard to keep Kopech on the taxi squad for a few weeks given he is this far out from the injury but maybe they can say he still hasn't gotten in any minor league games in yet which was the plan before this all happened so maybe he can just throw some taxi squad games instead. If it's prorated time They could easily have Madrigal play like a week on the taxi squad and that would be enough to qualify for what otherwise be like 3 weeks in a regular 162 game year. Plus he was somewhat struggling in ST beforehand as it was. Kopech it would require a little more twisting themselves into a pretzel to justify but it could be done particularly given we have a ton of "experienced major league" pitchers already esp with Rodon coming back.
  21. Jack even if they lose the grievance it'the right move. It will take like 2 years to resolve. Which means it will be a cloud over the owners heads after the 2021 season when the CBA expires so it's a bargaining chip for the next negotiation that the union can throw in to get sweeteners. Also the bigger issue here is the expanded playoff which owners disproportionately benefit from and an agreement would have made it far harder for the union to use that as leverage for 2022. Once fans enjoy the expanded playoff it will be hard for the union to realistically threaten not to renew it for 2022 onwards, it will be like trying to unscramble an egg or trying to put toothpaste back into the tube and the owners would use that threat as a PR weapon against the union once people got used to it and expect it after two years.
  22. Horn is a good player and was having a good season he isn't going to sign for 25k. He was a RS Jr. so he has eligibility Not Cishek indicated awhile back there would be some savings with Crochet. If they can sign Horn for 200k instead of 386k and squeeze 200k out of Crochet, then it still works out more or less.
  23. So the union wins big. They still get 60 games (not 48) plus keep their grievance rights and deny owners the most profitable part of the earlier bargain which is the playoff expansion.
  24. Ahh but they didn't win. Now they have a potentialbillion dollar grievance hanging over their heads, the loss of millions to the owners in expanded playoffs money all for the savings associated with 8-12 games.
