You don't mean better, what you really want to say is that Alonso is less sucky vs. Lefties than vs. Righties. Are there any other people on this forum who are about ready to attack G-rate with pitchforks and torches is they have to watch another game were Alonso grounds out 3 or 4 times against the shift?

This is the words of someone who is too young and wasn't around at that time. You have no idea what the popularity of disco was like back then, 1979. First of all, if you had an older car, like me and my poor college friends, you only had an AM radio (No FM, ugh!!) and your tape deck, whether 8-track or cassette to listen to. (In fact, I bet you don't even know what an 8-track tape looks like and you're commenting on events from that time.) Anyway, when the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack came out, it took over the radio completely, especially AM radio. AM radio only pretty much played Top-40, and at that time, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack had 3 of the top 5 songs in the country, and something like 8 of the top 10. It was Bee Gee song with that horrible falsetoo singing after Bee Gee song, followed by a disco song. You could change stations and it would be another Bee Gee song of some disco song. You couldn't escape it. It was total oversaturation, total oversaturation. Plus the rock stars were selling out to it to sell records. The Stones had disco records, the Kinks had a disco song. Of course there was gonna be backlash to that type of overkill and overplay. And this strong backlash had nothing to do with being anti-black or anti-gay. In all honesty, I don't think I knew there was a gay element to disco and dance clubs until Madonna brought that out in the 80's. You're commenting on history that you did not experience. This is "Do You Think I'm Disco" by Steve Dahl. It's a parody of a Rod Steward song for God's sake (In case you don't know, Rod Stewart is white). How is that racist? Listen to it, nothing racist all. It makes fun of white posers trying to be hip through disco. You are correct that racism and anti-gay attacks are a real problem in our country, right now and back then. But when you falsely pigeionhole an event you know nothing about, all you are doing is crying wolf and taking away from pointing out real examples of racism and attacks on our LBGT community.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron

So last year's all-star voting and that MLB.com list, that was fantasy land? Those guys don't know anything? -
A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
vilehoopster replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've pointed this out before. He was the only Sox to make the all-star team last year. Now, I didn't put him as a starter on the all-star team last year, so some other people must think he's the Sox best player (at least last year). Also, MLB.com listed, at the start of the season, the 100 best players in the majors, Abreu was the only Sox player on that list. Again, I didn't make up that list. Now, I'm sure next year other Sox will be on that MLB.com list, but so will Abreu. You can, and I do, certainly argue that Abreu is our best player. That is a lot, a lot closer to the truth than to say he's obviously on a decline. And seriously, we have so many obsure stats to rate players. What the hell is fWar ( I know: wins above replacement, but what is the "f" thing). I like the thread on here where the guy talked about how the Sox team that won the World Series, all the everyday players had average WARs. Sorry, no way to do I think that Joe Crede and A. J. were average league players that year. I have a ton more faith in leading the league in RBIs than an "fwar" of .2. -
Yes and no. They haven't won a series since getting Quintana, but that year, when they got him, they were five games out of the division lead. I don't think you can look back at that year and think the Cubs would have made the playoffs without Quintana. So, he definitely was important to them that year, at least.
-
I've ranted on the topic before: no, no, no, no. Don't get rid of our good players for someone who might be in the majors in two or three years. You win with good players. Can we get off this continual rebuild mode and start to enjoy winning. The window opens next year and goes from there, not five years from now.

A fair and balanced soliloquy about Jose Abreu, by ron
vilehoopster replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I agree with this guy, wiht his emoji, what he says about the original post that started this thread. It seems that we get one of these threads on here every two or three weeks and they're just stupid. I've said it over and over: Abreu is our best player. All-Star starter last year, only all-star. Only White Sox listed as one of top-100 players in the league at start of season (I admit that this list would probably include a couple more now). The original poster said, "It is no secret that he is on the decline." This is so stupid. Abreu seems well on his way to have career best in home runs and RBIs. How is that on a "decline"? It's ridiculous to make that claim. Yes, his batting average is down, but Steve Stone addressed that saying that he's scarificing batting average for power and RBIs, launch angle and all that. He is tied for the league lead for RBIs and you talk like we should just let him go because he's falling apart? It makes no sense. You act like we'll just bring Collins up and he'll do what "declining" Abreu has been doing. Collins with his .262 average and 9 home runs in AAA? Probably the funniest thing he said was that the Sox will just sign J. D. Martinez next year. Have you been following the White Sox organization at all? Could you please return to earth with the rest of us. And what bothers me the most is the people on here agreeing with this yutz. -
Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
vilehoopster replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Did anybody else just watch "Sports Talk Live", literally just five minutes ago. The consensus of all four sport writers was bring Cease up now. One guy even quoted Frank Thomas as saying it's time to bring him up. Sorry, I don't know the various writers' names, but one said there's nothing wrong with letting Cease come up and learning from whatever mistakes he makes. The writer followed with the idea that he's heard that Cease is really mentally tough and confident and he can deal with it. They all agreed that sooner or later, he has to face the big leagues, why not now. Come on White Sox!!!! Bring Cease up. Let the excitment begin. They also went on a rave about Eloy's homeruns over the weekend and finished with how scary it is to think that Luis might be the best of all the White Sox prospects considering how good Eloy, Moncada, and Giolito are looking. -
Despaigne called up; Delmonico released; Fry to IL
vilehoopster replied to ChiSox59's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'll give you two reasons why we should bring Cease up now 1) The difference between Giolito this year and Giolito last year. 2) The difference between Moncada this year and Moncada last year. Sox did the same thing with both guys: brought them up for a brief time in August of 2017. Going through September, everything looked peachy. But for both guys, 2018 was a huge let down, using the word terrible (less for Moncada) is not off base. But this year?!!! Given a full year, then an off season to ferment and correct things, the White Sox have two very special players now. Since we saw what happened with both of them when they were brought up in August and how the next year was a lost year, why repeat that mistake with Cease? I say don't follow that formula. Bring Cease up now, give him more than 8 or 6 weeks in the majors to learn and (yes) struggle. I say give him the end of June, then July, August, and September; whatever he can take for pitched innings, but let it be facing major league pressure and major league bats. Giolito and Moncada had to struggle first, let's get that struggle over with Cease now. Why waste next year? Here's a crazy idea (and I know I keep putting this out there), but let's try to win. Let's try to win now, and absolutely, let's try to win next year. Is Cease great? Is he perfect? I don't know, but he's a hell of a lot better than the guy we're throwing against the Nats tonight. Pitch Cease in the majors and let him start taking his lumps and learning, just like Lucas and Yoan did last year, but let's get that out of the way so that the Sox can start winning for real next year. -
Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
vilehoopster replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yes. 100% -- Keep Colome and try to win instead of flipping for some guy (Rutherford, Forde, Medeiros) who will never make the majors. I am also amused by the guys who keep claiming that for the Sox to contend we need major upgrade with our bullpen. So . . . your answer to upgrading our bullpen is to trade our guy who is 11 for 11 in saves for a guy who might or might not make the majors. How in the world does getting rid of our bullpen ace upgrade the it?? Also, the guys who say that Colome is not part of the the Sox long term plans, how do you know that? The front office should act and make Colome part of our long term plans. Let's use that Machado money to keep Colome. Also, all you guys quoting this analytic stat or that blab, blab stat saying that Colome isn't an elite closer, you're not seeing the forest for the trees. He's 11 for 11 in saves. Who out there is doing better? Is he gonna stay perfect, of course not, but still, he's looking great so far; let's keep him. -
Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
vilehoopster replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't trade him. He is 11 for 11 in saves. Why is it everyone on here wants to keeping pissing away wins this year and next year for a guy who might or might not make the majors in two or three years. Let's look at all we've gotten for our recent flips (Let me know if I've forgotten anyone, anyone). Kodi Medieros, Blake Rutherford, and Ti'Q Forbes. NONE OF THEM ARE EVER GOING TO PLAY IN THE MAJORS. None of them. A team wins with good players. Let's keep our good players, watch the young ones continue to improve, and win some game this year and into the future. All you guys who say let's sign another closer next winter, does that help now? I know this seems weird on the board, but I like it when the White Sox win, and YES, this year too. Do you really think we can sign a guy who will be 11 or 11 in saves at the start of June next winter? -
This is total BS. The White Sox can compete with Minnesota. Just play decent ball: catch the ball and hit the ball. Tilson catches that ball in center and the Twins don't score that inning and Rosario leads off the next inning with nobody on base. The Sox are something like 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position in the last two games with the Twins. In the 7th today, the Sox have men on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out. AND THEY DON'T SCORE. Get a hit there and the Sox are leading and we use our good bullpen guys, not Osich and Manaya. The Sox can compete with the Twins. The could have and should have won this game today. The Twins didn't win today; the Sox lost. Which makes it even worse. We should be better. But don't put out this BS that only Moncada could play for the Twins.

How many wins do you expect out of this road trip?
vilehoopster replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know the guy who started this thread said two, and he was correct. -
The truth is that watching this shit, everything is annoying. Turning the TV. Try again tomorrow.
-
Oh well, with that home run I can turn off the TV and go do something else. I need to turn off the TV. I can't stand Jason and Steve talking like Minnesota is God's gift to baseball, and all they're trying to do is justify the Sox's terrible, terrible play. 80% of what is happening in this series is the Sox's imcompetence. We can't even catch fly balls that high school players would feel embarrassed to miss. Not just Tilson, Yonder yesterday too. When this game is over today, Dylan Covey will have a career record of 5 and 25. Think about that: 5 and 25. The Sox give Covey the ball and it's only a one in six chance the Sox are going to win, but we keep putting him out there. I guess my prediction at the start of this road trip that I would accept two wins is looking pretty good. But looking at it now, to play so well at Houston . . . and then just shit our pants against Minnesota is really hard to take.
-
I understand that Minnesota is good. But God damn. We would be in this series if we just caught the balls we should catch and actually put the ball in play with runners in scoring position. We are giving this series to Minnesota. Their 1st two runs yesterday were a total gift and their 1st run today is a gift. Not all Tilson, but mostly Tilson.

I'm talking about the post, like 8 or 9 posting before your reply. A guy posted that he would trade Abreu and Colome for Turang and a 10th or so prospect in the Brewers system. I was pointing out why I thought that was a bad idea.
-
I understand that you want to give young players a chance, but with McCann in the White Sox are just so much better. Now with Anderson and Garcia out . . . ? Are we throwing in the towel to start this game? It sure seems like it.
-
I don't follow Milb very closely; that is correct. But I looked him up on MLB.com and I'm pretty sure that they follow Milb pretty closely. And on MLB.com, Turang is listed as their 3rd rated prospect and not a top-100 player. And my point about his being a shortstop is valid too. Is he gonna move out Anderson any time soon? Also, where did you get the idea that Hahn only traded for these guys to flip them? Did Hahn say that? I can't imagine, even if it were true, that anyone in a front office would publically say that about a player on their team (Unless you're Lebron). I think the idea that the Sox got Colome and Herrera to flip them is something that just has been repeated on this flip-crazy board so much that it has become assumed to be true. But I don't think it is true. Now, I will admit that Soria last year was just acquired to flip. But he had little value until he was with the Sox (Don Cooper, all you Cooper haters?) and then they were able to flip him for a prospect. And I would, as I have above, argue that the flipping of Soria was a mistake with Kodi M. being a total bust.
-
"He has been losing every year here they would give him the opportunity to win with a team that has chance, and I would be thankful to them, that's me." But my point was, if that was you (and you're Abreu) and you were now with a winning team, would you resign with the White Sox?? I'm guessing no if that's your logic.
-
I looked him up. Turang isn't even a top-100 prospect. And he's a short stop. Is he gonna move Tim Anderson out in a year or two? You guys kill me.
-
"Milwaukee would have interest. Bryce Turang would be an interesting target from Brewers. Tristan Casas a nice target from Red Sox." So you want to trade our best player and a 9 for 9 guy in saves for a prospect, who may or may not make it to the majors? I'm am sorry. I absolutely don't get this logic. And don't tell me these guys are can't miss. One name: Blake Rutherford.
-
Can we also stop with the trade him for prospect and then resign him as a free agent next year? Come on! He is happy here. If the front office devalues him and trades him, that will completely change his attitude towards the Sox and their front office. If you were Abreau, and got traded from a team and players you really like and saw as a home, repeatedly said you want to finish out your career with the Sox, but then got shuffled off like that, would you want to return to that club after the insult of being traded? Of course not. I wouldn't even think about returning to the Sox if they did that to me. I know Chapman did it, but it was returning to the Yankees and Chapman is a mercenary with no loyalty, just chasing bucks. I don't think Abreu is like that.
-
"I'll pack his bags and drive him to the airport" Are you the guy that said this about Avi Garcia when I posted my desire to keep Avi too. Avi who we could have kept for 2/3 of what we're paying Yonder Alonso? Avi with his .285 average, 9 homeruns, and his .854 OPS? Whoever said that about Avi, not looking too smart right now.
-
There is also zero question in my head. Keep him. Don't trade him; and resign him. Why do people not appreciate Abreu? He's a great bat and clubhouse leader. Did anybody read the article that was posted on here last week and 2016 about Adam Eaton and Frazier, LaRouche and all that drama. A quality clubhouse matters. Guys like Abreu keep that stuff away. Plus he is our best player: an all-star last year and I pointed this out before: MLB.com listed the 100 best players in baseball and Abreu was the only White Sox listed. He is our best player. Why is it that people don't want to start winning sooner rather than later? Here's a crazy idea: you win with good players, not prospects in the minors who may or may not make it to the majors in three or four years. Can we stop all this flipping our good players for prospects BS. Also, don't trade Colome either. He's 9 for 9 in saves. Once again, why would we want to trade that, again, for a prospect who might or might not make it to the majors in two or three years? The Soria trade worked out so well. Medieros is NEVER going to see a minute in the majors; he stinks. Trading Soria cost the Sox at least three wins last year. I know that's only a few more wins, but again, I like it when the Sox win; don't like it when they lose. Losing 97 games last year would have been a ton better than losing 100, losing 100. Now some people say, but Soria was going to be a free agent. Yes, he was. Like we should do with Abreu, the Sox should have then have resigned Soria. Just pay him the money. Would you rather have Soria or Herrera in the bullpen right now?
