  1. Keep checking around here......that would actually be high......we need guys that throw 180-200 innings but only cost $12-$15 million or can be had for second or third level prospects. We have been trained well....
  2. This. A day into the winter meetings and this is already the discussion. It is sad, but it is reality. I appreciated the effort on Wheeler, but that may be the only thing with prices being "too much"
  3. Ummm....unnamed player and uh Marcus Semien? I would say an 8 WAR player is decent. The big trades are looking good but again, when it is unknown players, what is his track record? I so hope I'm wrong, but I guess I'll just zip it and be content waiting for the perfect deal:)
  4. So am I the only one that is tired of wait til next year? Prices too high, this player didn't want our money, we offered the most per year......do we really think the perfect storm is about to arise? Are you really comfortable if Ryu, Keuchel, Bum are all gone, Ozuna and Castellanos sign and we end up with scraps like we tend to? This seriously isn't impatience just this offseason but the whole narrative. I feel like the Blackhawks before Bill Wertz passed on. Again I ask what are these impact players you are going to get via trade?
  5. The price is too high, the market is running too hot, we made a good offer, second is first loser. Why do I keep getting sucked into this con job?
  6. For who that can make an impact? Are you going to trust Rick to pluck a gem out of someone else's system when he seems to deal his own? For an impact player it isn't going to be Collins, Basabe, and all of the unknowns. It's going to be Madrigal, Vaughn, etc unless again, we are looking at a 4-5 starter with little upside. They have money.
  7. Trades cost players. Hahn has shown when he deals young players, he tends to get schooled, especially if it is for an "impact" player. Do I love the above ideas? No, but for the love they have been pocketing $30 million plus the last 2-3 years. Over pay for two of them and you are still ahead. I'm tired of this acting like a freaking poor team. If you pay Bum $100 for 5 and Keuchel for 4 / $70, you could move either of them 2 years in if your young kids are ready and rolling. You have two guys that have been stars and won rings. Maybe you don't spend as much on RF but watch the postseason. You need pitching. Get it done already.
  8. If this is true I’m miffed. The Sox don’t like the prices? Then get out of the freaking business! Great idea to trade your prospects for more budget friendly guys. Same old Sox if that’s true which I hope it is not.
  9. What elite talent would he draw right now? A declining Kershaw? A package to get Thor who is a free agent in 2 years? Get out of here dude....
  10. Bookmark so when the Sox do make a move we can say, "What an overreaction" right :)?????
  11. True, but in that case I make a minor deal for a RF or go really bargain basement. I don't think Calhoun on a one year at 10 million is really money well spent
  12. Ozuna. More offensive upside. You didn't mention anything about money, so I'm not taking it into consideration
  13. This is making nothing in today's game. Wheeler over $20 million, Bumgarner looking that way. By 2023, that $16.6 is #4 starter money the way this craziness is going.
  14. CBS Sports has a dumb idea. We trade for Price and give up Herrera (yes please) and Burger. Red Sox give us $20 million making Price 3 years at $73 million. 2 of his 4 years in Boston he’s been hurt and we are paying $24 million a year? Give us $40 million and I’m ok with him as our #3 or4.
  15. Plan B for me is waiting until Monday to look at this anymore because there is no free agent remaining worth me staring at this all day.
  16. We already spent 70 million of our team budget so 180-230 is all we have left. Sorry Cole
  17. We just figure at this point we either or going to overspend for 4 years on a Bum or Ryu or we are going to have to (gulp) trust Hahn to make a trade to go get someone like Gray (whose road splits suck too). Just go with the cheapest tier 2 guy and hope they turn into a #5 starter by year end. Spend the rest on upgrading the offense
  18. Jerry makes money whether we come or not, so why would he do anything? If the Indians trade off everyone and the Twins don't get pitching, we come in second, just like Jerry likes. Any Stone tweets yet on how this was a great move. LOL
  19. Who can we get for below market that no one else wants. Hello Ivan Nova, MIchael Pineda and all of the other garbage. Worse spin than turning on "news" channels these days
  20. LMFAO. White Sox and strong contingency plans are not in the same sentence. The money will be spent. It's just that will spread out over a 5 year period. This year we are already broke. LOL
  21. Your team valuation is 14th in MLB. Your team revenue is The team revenue is slightly below the average on a year over year basis. THat's having a half empty stadium because of your product. If they are average financially, that is nothing like teams below them in revenue streams via television and other marketing. When a team is banking almost $70 million some years, you can't cry poor when your team valuation is rising at approximately 15% per year.
  22. Again, a $70 million dollar deal is going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the contracts that will be signed. If that's the big splash this season, let's start calling this crew the Chitown Marlins. Seriously, one "Big" signing a year is what we can afford?
  23. Short memories of what? That signing a catcher for $70 million is our biggest spend ever when over 100 contracts of $100 million have been given out throughout MLB? Is this kid related to Jerry or Rick? Gracious, the payroll may be over $100 million this year (only 30 million below the league average).......all hail the big spenders! Loon
  24. MLB average over the past couple years is about $135 million. Sox have "saved" about $30 million per year the past two years. In the past 25 years, revenues across MLB have increased by about 15% per year. With that said, Sox payroll should easily be about $140-$150 million this year and by the end of the window in 4-5 years be pushing $190-$200. There is money for nice things and for Jerry to make money
  25. Totally agree. But do we then sign another pitcher at $15 mil per and a reliever? That sends us closer to $140 million, which still should be fine. I don't see the Sox doing that though.....
