"Griffey had the best BP session he's had since he got here" "Wouldn't surprise me to see Griffey have a BIG series...." followed by a weak-ass double play grounder Hawk = Miss Cleo -
QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 06:03 PM) also reads: i can get laid out of this If I didn't have my natural charm, wit and rugged good looks, perhaps I'd be reduced to tricks and bribes..... ....so you think this is gonna work????

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) He has 8 saves that took less than 3 outs to get and 0 multi-inning saves, 6 blown saves, has allowed a good amount of runs and more baserunners than any of the other elite closers this season. He just hasn't been all that dominant, he's just had an incredible amount of save opportunities which has more to do with luck than anything he's done on the mound. When Smoltz saved 55 in '02 he had 8 multi-inning saves and only 1 save that required less than 3 outs to record, he also had over 80 IP that year compared to K-Rod's poultry 67. So you're saying it's a chicken-s*** record? -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) Don't forget Gilmour. The difference here is he wouldn't be anointed savior, but rather as a role player who can put the puck in the net. I was half-kidding. I actually liked Gilmour on the Hawks. He wasn't the player he had been, but he was a solid enough player for them. The four I listed were BROOOOOOTAL. I don't think any of those guys other than Gilmour were hyped to the sky either. Shanahan would be a decent pickup, but they'd have to overspend to get him (even if they HAD the money). -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) I know this will probably get me flamed here, but I'm a HUGE Oasis fan and looking forward to their new album as well. Not by me it won't. Oasis is a great band.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) Did anyone else enter in the Cubs drawing for playoff tickets? I put my name in, I figure I would scalp the s*** out of them and buy something worthwhile, like a new TV or computer. I entered, but if I somehow win the NLCS lottery (if they get there) I will actually be attending that game with my Cub fan wife. I tried to work the "sell the tix and buy something nice" angle, but she really wants to go to the game, so we'll go. I won't sell any Sox ALCS tickets if I win that lottery, and she would go to a Sox playoff game with me, so fair's fair.

Like I said, every single Cub they spoke to said exactly that - they're enjoying this for a couple days, but their work isn't done yet. No one was saying "WE DID IT - YAHOOOOOEEEEEE!!!!!!!!". I don't see any correlation between celebrating "lesser" achievements and winning the World Series. If there was such a connection, you'd see every team sitting calmly in the locker room after every clincher prior to the Series. You play for 6 months trying to get into the playoffs, why not acknowledge it when it happens? I just don't see the harm, even if others may see it as over-doing it.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 11:29 AM) Because it's the 2nd year in a row that they've reached the top 8. They didn't get a chance to celebrate with the fans last year. And even if they did, what's the harm in enjoying an achievement, no matter how insignificant some other team's fanbase deems it to be?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 07:55 AM) I laughed so hard when I saw them running around the field spraying fans with champagne. Thats what you do when you win the World Series. If the Sox had won any of their 2005 series clinchers in US Cellular Field, I'd bet anything we'd have seen the same thing. I don't begrudge them celebrating with the home fans. Who knows if they'll have another chance to celebrate? Anything can happen in the playoffs, why not enjoy the moment? Their players seemed to have the right frame of mind - they all said "we'll enjoy this for a day or two, but we still have work to do".

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 09:36 AM) I'm off to see the Rangers tonight at MSG for my 1st ever Hockey match, really looking forward to it. B) GOOD OLD HOCKEY GAME Stompin' Tom Connors Hello out there, were on the air it's hockey night tonight! The tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice. The goalie jumps, and and the players bump, and the fans all go insane. Someone roars: "Bobby Scores!" At the good old hockey game! (chours) Oh! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game! Second Period. Where players dash, with skates a-flash, the home team trails behind. But they grab the puck, and go bursting up, and their down across the line. They storm the crease, like bumblebees, and they travel like a burning flame. We see them slide the puck inside, its a one-one hockey game! (chours) Oh! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game! Third Period. Last game in the play-offs too. Oh take me where, the hockey players, face off down the rink, And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink! Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and a one gigantic scream: "THE PUCK IS IN! THE HOME TEAM WINS!" At the good old hockey game (chorus repeat 3 times) OH! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game! -
I think the bats go crazy one game, and drive us insane the other two. Nothing about this season has been easy, so why would this series be any different?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 05:16 PM) Should Rich Hill really be allowed to celebrate? I'm pretty sure that's 3rd string catcher Koye Hill.

In today's game, that mop that plays LF for St. Louis turned a one-run single into 3 runs by butchering Soriano's single with 2 outs. 3-0 Cubs in the 3rd.

QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 04:46 PM) Apparently Z had his grandmother die last night and it sounds like he went to see her and flew back for the game. I heard on the radio that he agreed to come back to pitch so he could "be a hero". Then when it doesn't work out that way, he spins out of control. Mature.

I could have been a world-class debater. I can argue either side of any argument convincingly, and often work BOTH sides of a debate to my advantage. I have, however, settled on becoming a world-class asshole instead.

The last I read was Barker is expected to make it through this, but he has serious burns from the waist down. Those small planes always frighten me, much more so than larger aircraft.

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 17, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) Iam very dissappointed to find out that the Critic would rather watch the Essence of Emeril instead of football. Do you get into his show like we do football games? I could see you screaming at your TV "BAM!TAKE IT UP A NOTCH!WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" The worst thing that ever happened to Emeril was the live audience. When he had an in-studio show he was kind of a clutzy goof fumbling over his words. Very funny. With the audience he got louder and dumber and threw completely unnecessary amounts of s*** into his dishes. Awful and not at all funny. I've always found football to be utterly boring. Ironic, I know, given that I love baseball in part because of its leisurely pace. -
I would skip the Sox game to show my girl a wonderful time, because I am a great guy. Have I mentioned that we have a Mother's Day baseball tradition? We've also gone to ballgames on my birthday, her birthday and our anniversary. So like I said......do the right thing.....
