QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) The song is 8 mins long, the first 4 mins are ok the last 4 are awesome imo. Then I revise my estimate to 5 1/2 of bad leading into 2 1/2 of kind of good. Seriously, I'm glad you like it. I know you're not alone - I've seen a lot of positive comments online. A lot of negative ones, too, but that's opinion for you. I hold no ill will towards Metallica. They were my favorite band for a LONG time, during my favorite time of my life, and I remember very fondly the 5 times I saw them in concert. They just haven't recorded anything I've been interested in for well over a decade now. I'm sure the disc will do fairly well, and I'm more certain that their shows will sell VERY well. I will hold off final judgment until I hear the entire disc, but I haven't liked what I've heard so far. Being "better than St. Anger" isn't a compliment in my mind, it's a foregone conclusion. If they recorded something worse than St. Anger, they should be forced to chew their own hands off. I was hoping for much better than St. Anger, and I wanted to believe that they were capable of a "return to form", but my hope is dimming.

QUOTE (Fotop @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:19 AM) The drums sounding like s*** doesn't surprise me. Lars is a terrible drummer. Yeah, I expect the actual playing to be bad, but I thought after the Trash Can SoundTM of the drums on St. Anger, that MAYBE they'd have tried a little harder to get a decent sound from the drums this time. It's a distracting sound and it just serves to again draw attention to the sub-par drumming.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 01:39 AM) Are you kidding me? I heard this song on the radio at work today and loved it, especially the ending of it I really like how it had a "One" feel to it, and supposedly its one of the more tamer songs on the new CD.. I am expecting it to be pretty damn good I'm glad you liked it. I don't like it at all. The drums still sound like s***, very annoying sound to them. And James' warbling, of course, I can't stand. The ending is kind of good, but it takes almost 5 minutes of bad to get to 2 minutes of kind of good. To me, it's a lot like the new Motley Crue - trying to recapture an old sound and "feel" and falling short.

Here's the single Metallica is releasing to radio, "The Day That Never Comes": http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermo...wsitemID=103278 I'm still not excited. I'm bummed out, I was really hoping for something interesting from them. It gets a little better about 5 minutes into the song when they start riffing, but it's not anything amazing or purchase-worthy. James still sounds like a yodeling twat. I HATE the way he sings.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) My knee is completely black and blue this morning. Bump on the head has subsided mostly. But man did that suck. My knee had finally gotten 100% after the various injuries to it and than I do something stupid like that and destroy it again. Hopefully everything physically is fine and its just a hideous bruise with lots of swelling which will go down over the coming days. Send a picture of the knee to Pratt and he'll write a 75,000 word essay about it, with vivid descriptions and QUOTES!

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 08:19 AM) Y - Y - Y - Y - Yes! But will another blow to the head cure it, like in the cartoons?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) But f*** did I whack my head. Little bit of swelling on the back of it. I know I didn't black out because I hit and popped up cursing like a mother f***er, which I figure is as good of a sign as possible. Can you get Tourette's from a blow to the head?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) So they re-ran the roast last night, and it really wasn't nearly as good as years past. Cloris Leachman was BY FAR the funniest person on there. There were some funny moments, but not nearly as good as some of the past ones. Mostly they just didn't have very good roasters. It was the lamest collection yet. Go back and look who has been there in the past, its not even close. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comedy_Central_Roast "That's what you get when you book a dais off Craigslist" - Jeff Ross

Short reviews of each band last night: Testament - their sound was a little muddy, but they had great energy and their set was too short (half-hour). Motorhead - their sound was also a little muddy, but they KILLED. They were excellent, energetic, and their set was much too short for me (45 minutes). My favorite band of the night by far. Heaven & Hell - their sound was much cleaner, but they were DULL as hell. They played well, and Dio can still sing his ass off, but I'm just not a big Black Sabbath fan, so their set was much longer than I'd have liked. Judas Priest - they sounded really good, but played too many "deep cuts" for my liking. Halford did indeed look like a baked potato in his long silver jacket, and he spent much of the night crouched over while singing. It's an odd style, and I've read that he crouches over to read a teleprompter with the lyrics on it. Overall I'd have to say that I wish I could see Motorhead on the upcoming Volcom tour with the Misfits, Airbourne and Valient Thorr instead. A much more fitting tour and a lot more fun lineup for my tastes. Oh - the crowd was so small that the lawn was closed. Everyone with lawn tickets got pavilion "upgrades", and the pavilion still wasn't full. It would have been a decent crowd at the Allstate, but not at the FMBA.

I still have all of my old goalie equipment. I'm close to dumping most of it, but I'll never throw away my mask.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 18, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) I don't know if it could be more obvious that it was on purpose. He was telling jokes that you'd hear in first grade or the early 1900's. I wonder if Cloris Leachman actually wrote her own stuff, though. That must have been some kind of inside joke between Norm and Bob, or Norm and the other comics. If it wasn't, then Norm completely mailed it in. Either way, he sucked the funny right out of the room. It was painful to watch. I didn't laugh once. Then Jeff Garlin came up and failed at his routine, too, and he was clearly trying to be funny. Cloris was great, no matter who wrote her jokes. Her delivery was spot-on. My favorite joke of hers (trying to repeat it as best I can, but the gist is there): "Would someone please punch me in the face so I can see some stars?"

Any Soxtalkers going to Raw tonight? I'll be watching it at home, flipping to the Sox game during commercials and lame matches/promos. -
It's kind of unfair to both sites to compare them against each other. There's a different approach to each site, and I think each site takes the approach that's right for them. It seems to me that WSI wants to be the site that gets referred to in mainstream media, and that's fine, I personally don't care about that one iota. It's up to each individual poster to decide if they want to be there, obviously. I like both, but I prefer Soxtalk, as my post counts will attest.

UH~OH!!!! Time to jump off the Punk bandwagon!!! {CM Punk bowls for charity} - CM Punk recently bowled at the fifth annual Kerry Wood's Strike Zone Celebrity Bowling Tournament. "It was an awesome experience. Everyone who was bowling got drafted. I was drafted by Cubs' baseball player’s wives. I was on team Estrogen," Punk said. "We dominated early, but then we fell apart in the fifth frame. It was really fun." -

Latest on Jeff Hardy's injury: source: www.f4wonline.com -- Regarding Jeff Hardy's apparent neck injury, the employees at the Best Buy store were saying for some reason that Jeff Hardy had suffered a neck injury, which is why he wasn't there for his scheduled autograph signing. Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase ended up taking his place. It doesn't appear that he has a neck injury, but he does however have an elbow injury. He came to Tuesday's SmackDown/ECW taping with fluid in his elbow that wouldn't drain well, and was pulled off the weekend house shows as a result. Cait sent in the following... Just thought I'd pass along the information that over on the hardyshow.com message board the topic of Jeff Hardy's "broken neck" came up. Tamran who is a reliable source of Hardy information said the following "not true....jeff is injured, he's having some elbow issues that's why he was pulled off things this weekend. so he can be at the PPV on sunday." -
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) Batting average up to .312....he's had clutch hits all year, and has played good defense. I'm waiting for him and Dempster to fade like everyone was telling me would happen. I certainly expected both of them to fade, especially Dempster. The addition of Edmonds and the resulting platoon helps Johnson stay fresh and get good matchups. I'm just shocked at Dempster's season. He's been unreal.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 10:55 AM) Ehhhh, since i'm not a fan of the TNA product I don't think it'll matter to me at all. I guess we'll find out after tonight if Foley is leaving or not, it's a shame because i've liked his work on SD as a commentator. From what I've read, he hasn't liked his announcing work, and Vince doesn't want him back in the ring. I think he's a guy who will benefit from more freedom, and less of Vince's control. -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 12:53 AM) This was, by far, the worst concert I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. During a 3-hour set, they played (and I'm not exaggerating) 8-10 songs. Only two of them were relatively popular songs. f*** this band, that's all I have to say. Sorry you had a bad time, dude. I don't like the Allman Brothers, so I didn't want to say anything before you went. Did the Allman Brothers' hardcore fans seem to enjoy the show? I saw Blues Traveler once, and it was the same thing - a ton of "noodling" turning 4 minute songs into 14 minute snoozefests. I hate that crap.

I've been reading that Foley to TNA is a strong possibility. What do you guys think of this? I love it, of course - it means Foley returns to the ring in a limited role, like Sting has, and I think Foley's needed a new setting for quite a while. I hope he doesn't feel the need to do a bunch of crazy s***, since he's taken so much abuse to his body and head already. I think 80% of Foley would be much more entertaining than anyone else on the TNA roster right now. Another plus to Foley being there is that he'll make others more interesting by being in programs with him. Another Cage/Foley program could be great. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 02:02 PM) Just saying that Edge the past few weeks has been as intriguing as ever. He has been really good with his promos and actions and if he puts Taker over tomorrow, I will be pissed. He is carrying that show now and doesn't even have the belt. It would kill him if he loses to Take, who hasn't been on for a few months. The HIAC match should be brutal and we just got Dish so I may get the HD feed for the first time for a PPV. Seeing as how it would be absolutely asinine for Edge to lose to Taker, that's exactly what I expect to happen. I've enjoyed Edge's work quite a bit lately, too. It's tough to pull off that intensity/fear/"I'm going crazy" routine, but Edge is doing it about as well as could be expected. I'd have had him interfere in midcard matches and destroy people on top of the revenge against Vickie stuff, though. -
Zambrano is flipping out again, and getting lit up. 5-1 Fish in the 3rd, Zamloco talking to himself/yelling at himself on the mound. If that guy could ever grow up and control himself, he could be great. He's very, very good despite being a complete mental case.
