  1. Only speaking for myself, of course, but I don't care if Mark, Juan, or anyone on the team cheers for another team as long as I believe it doesn't affect their performance or committment to the White Sox. You can't erase someone's love of their childhood team, and I don't think it's a bad thing, as long as you remain a professional. I don't believe Mark has ever dogged it on the Sox, so his Cardinal love is fine with me, even if it means he "goes home" via free agency.
  2. Sunday morning "who set the goddamned alarm?" shuffle: Ikara Colt - How's The World Gonna Take You Now Moxy - I'll Set You On Fire Ozzy Osbourne - You Can't Kill Rock and Roll Suicidal Tendencies - Hippie Killer Rush - Force Ten Boston - It's Easy Rancid - Roots Radicals Motley Crue - Starry Eyes Gwar - America Must Be Destroyed Schatzi - We Might Collide and the "I'll never get back to sleep now" extra bonus track: Automatic 7 - Bow Down
  3. I voted Duque, because he wasn't part of the 90-win "failure" of 2006. ...and because that half-inning was one of the more exciting things I've ever seen.
  4. If I didn't feel Buerhle put out an honest effort for the Sox, maybe I'd have a problem with him expressing his love for the Cardinals. But I do think he's been a great pro for the Sox, and I have zero problem with him staying loyal to his childhood team. If he leaves for StL when he goes free agent, I can't blame him. He's got all the money he'll ever need, and jumping on a chance to play for the team he grew up cheering for is perfectly understandable to me. If Johan Santana grew up a Sox fan, I doubt any of us would piss on him about being "unloyal" to the Twins.

  6. Some people are unbelievably stupid, and should not be around children in any educational capacity.
  7. I read that Jose was Juan's cousin. Asking Juan (with an interpreter present ) might be the only way to find out for sure. Either way, RIP Jose.
  8. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) Carlos Zambrano fears the DH. Look at his career numbers in AL parks. He's terrible. He's great and all, but part of his game is walking or hitting batters to face the defensive-minded catcher with a .200 AVG batting 8th, and then the gimmie out in the pitcher. I think he'd be able to adjust to life in the AL if/when he matures mentally, but who knows when that could happen, if ever? Also keep in mind that he started to have a few injury issues last year (back and arm).
  9. Any idea where Clemens is leaning? Surprisingly, I haven't seen too much press about him yet.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) they call it short-sighted. Also sometimes referred to as "knee-jerk".
  11. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 03:46 PM) You're telling me a Playmakers-style show, but with genuine on-the-field action would have been bad? You obviously haven't seen how well those Varsity Blues/Friday Night Lights/Hoop Dreams films & tv shows do. It would have been gangbusters. What sells the WWE is the characters it presents (in varying degrees of quality) and their motivations and aspirations partnered with good (theoretically) professional wrestling. The XFL didn't allow the audience to get into the characters - the players and their dreams, hopes, and off-the-field action. So without that, the audience desired good on-the-field football, and with players that were basically outcasts from college and arena ball, they didn't get that either. Hence its failure. The games, as bad as they were to watch sometimes, could have been made better in the editing room. My formula - good characters + good (edited) football games = ratings success. I agree. If Vince hadn't been looking for "legitimacy" and stuck to his own formula with the XFL, it probably still wouldn't have been a hit with mainstream sports fans, but it may well have been a very successful reality show.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:34 AM) And besides, if Uribe died, it would be in a shootout anyways. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallegedly................
  13. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) I've never liked Jerry Reinsdorf. Never will. I kinda liked him on October 26, 2005.
  14. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 07:55 AM) Seems like a low risk move. The way things are going, he could be one of the starting five by Spring Training. Or at the very least, he'll be on the "three-year board". ...Coop Can Fix Him!!!
  15. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 05:35 AM) Lieberthal hit .286 vs LHP in 2006. I thought he would have been a decent backup to AJ, especially for only $1.25 million. That was my first thought, too. Oh well.
  16. This shuffle's for YOU, Sweaty Freddy!!! Rancid - Avenues & Alleyways The Almighty - 7x Husker Du - Standing In The Rain The Boomtown Rats - Keep It Up The Lords Of The New Church - Portobello Queen - Killer Queen X - We're Desperate Echo & The Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar Suffrajett - Wax Paper Packages Dead Kennedys - Your Emotions And the "Freddy never DID learn how to hold a runner on" super-secret bonus track: Danzig - Mother
  17. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 09:41 AM) What's the difference between Pods and Bonds? Both are horrific fielding left fielders who have seen their power numbers plummet since the 2004 season and both don't hustle down the line. One is a future Hall of Famer though, and the other one is a future Schaumburg Flyers designated hitter. I can't see Barry playing for Schaumburg.....
  18. Didn't vote for him. I love Hawk, but I don't think he's a Hall Of Fame caliber broadcaster.
  19. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 01:08 PM) I was. I jumped back when it smacked this guy in the face. I was anticipating a rough rebound. I think HE should have been paying attention. The good news, most of his blood went into a drain in front of him, and his girlfriend got the ball. I'm sure he was happy that most of his blood went into a drain.... "OW OW OW OW.....gee, I hope nobody's shoes get stained from my blood.....DAMN, THIS HURTS......oh GOOD, what luck! A drain just below the stream of blood pouring from my nose! Whenever I bleed profusely, I just hope I don't inconvenience those around me......MEDIC!!!!!"
  20. QUOTE(To LA from Chicago @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Has anyone ever thought about 'IMHO'? I mean, have you even known anyone to have a dishonest opinion? Just asking.. OJ Simpson has a dishonest opinion.
  21. I hope that Charlotte heat doesn't melt those 10 pounds away again...
  22. I stand by my earlier stated opinion that Vince only brought ECW back in order to milk it and kill it, so he'll never have to hear an "ECDUB, ECDUB" chant at a WWE live event again. Honestly, who can possibly chant ECDUB anymore, now that Vince has turned into 1/2 Ohio Valley, 1/2 HOSSFEST, and 100% craptacular?
  23. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) Really, I thought it was quite funny.. robbing white folk haha It just seems forced and weak to me, although I kind of like the Shelton Benjamin response to them. Cryme Tyme's last few bits have just seemed to lack any originality or comic value.
  24. This Cryme Tyme segment is horrible. They might be finished as an entertaining skit.
