QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) Dinosaur Jr. doing The Cure's "Just Like Heaven" is pretty funny. They also do very funny covers of Peter Frampton's "Show Me The Way" and Neil Young's "Lotta Love". QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 08:44 PM) i absolutely loathe claptons version of i shot the sheriff. I would stop this sentence here: "i absolutely loathe clapton"

Another pretty soild episode of TNA Impact last night, except for the usual lame bits (Kevin Nash, Road Dogg and Billy Gunn). Cornette must be counterbalancing Russo's idiocy at the booking meetings.

QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Let me add an obscure cover that I live: Foo Fighters - Baker Street. It is a hard to find b-side of the the My Hero single and they played a lot on Q101 about that time. Great song. It was a little too close to the original for my tastes. One of my favorite all-covers CDs is Face To Face's "Standards and Practices". Standout tracks on it are "Sunny Side Of The Street" (The Pogues), "That's Entertainment" (The Jam) and "Planet Of Sound" (The Pixies).

Murphy was OK when he did his WLS show once a week. Listening to him attempt to fill 2 hours every day is painful. Truth be told, the only time I ever have a chance to listen is after 1:30, so maybe the first 90 minutes is better.....somehow I doubt it, though.

I had already forgotten that Mysterio had been the champ for a while. HA! Now I remember how enormous that title belt looked on him, and how I joked that he should have worn one of those little kid replica belts they sell instead.

QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) i like neil young's voice. It works for his music, I think. Sometimes the "worst" singing voices just work perfectly for their style of music. Lemmy comes to mind. John Lydon and Joe Strummer, too.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 08:15 PM) Except for the fact that Michael Hedges did it better, IMO. Back when Papa Roach first got signed they did a little promo EP thingy. On it was their version of Alanis Morrisette's "You Ottta Know". I hate Papa Roach, and I hate Alanis, but that is a killer version of the tune. Little Bit O' Soul and Time Has Come Today- Ramones Shapes Of Things - Gary Moore Up Around The Bend - Hanoi Rocks Also "Surfin' Bird" and "My Back Pages" by the Ramones. and HELL YES on the Hanoi Rocks!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:47 PM) Well if you want to discuss some more . . . And a reverse cover by the same artist. Bob Welch when he was with Fleetwood Mac (pre Stevie Nicks era) wrote Sentimental Lady and it was recorded on the last album he appeared on. He later had a top 10 with the same song as a solo artist. While his solo effort sold more copies, his Fleetwood Mac version is waaaay better. We could go on and on about songs where the cover sucked, but I can't think of a situation where the cover was by the same guy. I agree about Mac's version being better. His solo version about made me puke back when it was being overplayed on AM radio.

Thunder & Lightning (Thin Lizzy) by Gluecifer Bad Boys (Twisted Sister) by The Mistakes Do You Love Me? (Kiss) by Noise Therapy Face The Day (Angel City) by Great White QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) When I saw this thread, this is the song that came to my mind 1st, and didn't really think it would be in here. Good call. Thanks. I love their version. This is an example I always bring up whenever I spout my "there's no such thing as a bad song, just bad EXECUTION of a song" theory. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:13 PM) I was going to list that one, but I knew you would do it for me. I love that song! Of course I was, I'm the biggest NR whore around these parts! They're "back for good", y'know.....playing a date in April at the House Of Blues with the Effigies. If I wasn't such an anti-social, hermitic curmudgeon, maybe I'd go.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 02:28 PM) Geez, I'm just happy I can make phone calls on my cell phone. That's all I want from mine. I just want to be able to call my kid's school whenever the CTA f***s up my ride home (which is a LOT, since the CTA sucks ass).

Gwynn and Ripken are HOF class of 2007

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) Goose should have made it. He was better than Sutter. He was definitely more intimidating. They were both great, and they both deserve to be there. -
SOTD got a US release of 607 theatres nationwide, according to Wikipedia. Not really that wide of a release, considering most films (again, according to Wikipedia) get 2,000-3,000 screens. (It did $3.3 million on its first weekend - not bad for 607 screens.)
-
Looks like a fun movie. Also looks like a Music Box, Pipers Alley and/or Landmark Century Center movie. This will not get a wide release, unlike that awwwwwwwwesome Tenacious D movie.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) He's also possibly the worst defensive catcher in the history of baseball, he kept himself at catcher over the course of his career when he was so much better suited for firstbase. I don't consider him a catcher either, you could have stuck Alex Rodriguez at catcher when he was 23 and he could have played equal or better defense than Piazza did but with twice the production. So when looking at Piazza's numbers you can not look at them in terms of the defensive position he played do to the fact that he really didn't play one. When looking at his numbers as a power hitter they're still very good but nothing outstanding. He'll get in because he holds basically every offensive career mark for a catcher that there is despite the fact that he was playing the position under the most ultimately loose terms imaginable. I think Jeter will retire a Yankee but outside of him I can't really think of any other likely candidates. Actually Pujols and Helton *gag* are also possibilities. And Bagwell is basically a lock as is Biggio It's true that he was a hideous defensive catcher, but he still must be considered as a catcher because that's where he played for the majority of his career. You can state that he shouldn't get in because he blew as a catcher, but you simply can't consider him a first baseman when he played 0.038% of his big-league games there. -
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) The best part of that Donald and Rosie segment was seeing Ace Steel in a E ring. So that's "Rosie's" real name, huh?

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Of course I am very strict when it comes to HOFer's. Mike Piazza isn't in my hall simply because I consider him a first baseman and as a first baseman I think he should have been great for a long period (and 99% of the world will disagree with me on that one). I know I will. Mike Piazza played 70 of his 1829 career games at first base over 14 seasons. (68 of those games came in one season) That's not a first baseman, that is a catcher who played a little first base. -
Chicago writer submits blank HOF ballot

He should have his voting rights pulled for a few years, so he can study the players and learn what a Hall Of Famer looks like. What a douche. -
QUOTE(AssHatSoxFan @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) oh man, what awful thing did I miss on Raw this week? A Donald Trump impersonator defeated a Rosie O'Donnell impersonator after a cake to the face. It wasn't even as funny as that might sound. The funniest thing was the "WE WANT WRESTLING" chant going on late in their far-too-lengthy "match".
-
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 09:47 PM) Nah, they could always have a hell in a cell match between Rosie and the Donald. Holy s*** that was horrible Honestly, I think that was the single worst thing I've ever seen in wrestling. Worse than the Finger Poke Of Death. Worse than the Shockmaster. Worse than the Gobbledygooker. Worse than the Kane/Katie Vick angle. Worse than Giant Gonzalez, Great Khali and Bastion Booger combined. Worse than the Turkey On A Pole Match in the AWA's dying days. Worse than David Arquette's or Vince Russo's wCw title wins. Absolutely embarrassing is what that "match" was.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 07:35 PM) What I want to hear: How the hell we're going to hold off the Taliban in Afghanistan. Dude, Afghanistan is SOOOOOO 2003....

QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 10:23 AM) Who the hell would send virus's/hack into a Blackhawks site of any kind? Maybe Dollar Bill is afraid a Hawks message board might spark interest in his team, and he can't have THAT.
-
QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Prolly because he has had experiance with real mic skills. I am not going to expect a professional wrestler to dazzle me with the mic, but I get what you are saying. I would just say K Fed has an advantage over them, either way I hope they keep him around Federline has worked at being accepted by the wrestlers and seems to really enjoy what he's doing out there, so that's to his credit. Too many celebs have mailed it in when Vince gives them a paycheck.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) HHH screwed up his leg, either knee or quad, big time. Couldn't even jump and make the RKO look good. Getting MRI done. Could miss WM 23. Gee, H sure has had a run of bad luck with injuries the past few years. Wonder why he might be breaking down like that?
