The Sox did a VERY good job this offseason, bolstering the offense with Thome, gathering another decent starter in Vasquez and acquiring a top-notch bench player in Mackowiak. The only question mark has to be the bullpen, which seems a touch weaker with the deaprture of Vizcaino and Marte. I don't know if anyone can expect Pollitte and Cotts to duplicate their 2005 seasons, Jenks is still somewhat unproven as a closer ( although I have confidence that he'll be just fine ) and Hermanson has to show that his back is stable. The AL Central is NOT the Sox's to claim just by showing up. It's going to be a tough race, but I do believe the Sox will repeat as ( at least ) division champs.

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 11:03 AM) Yes, please, get rid of Arnie!!!!! Bad news for Khaby, but I dont think he needs to be dealt, we have nobody else, and Conklin is the exact same as Anderson, just with a slightly better team infront of him. Really, I think Andy got jobbed, Munro played two of the worst teams in the league, won both games with a solid performance infront of him. Anderson plays the better teams, gets s*** efforts from his teammates and he gets dealt. I'm sorry but I dont think that's too fair. Even though I would wholeheartedly agree that he definitely did not play his best. That situation was just another in a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng line of short-sighted Blackhawk decisions. It's not like Munro was going to save this season, so why not send the guy down who WON'T have to clear waivers? Either they had a problem with Anderson that they weren't discussing, or they are as stupid as they seem.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 22, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) Looking back at the article, it does say it was based on sales though. Gee, thanks for the help Dave...like that was a tough article to put together, and a buncha help. Just a waste of time. Of course, it could also be broken down into some interesting articles. "Top 10 Classic Rock albums as bought by Wal-Mart customers" could actually be a fascinating article, and we might find that according to Wal-Mart shoppers, the greatest band in history is indeed Air Supply! You looked at that article a second time? Glutton for punsihment, are ya?
-
I would LOVE to see Cradle Of Filth listed as "classic rock" someday! I understand your point and agree with you, Kid. If I was a writer, my list of "essential albums" would look nothing like Dave's.

Turns out my nephew ( the Cub fan ) is going to all three days with his Dad ( Sox season ticket holder ), so I gave him a cap to get it signed for me by as many players/coaches as possible.

WOW, dealing Khabibulin now would be a MAJOR knee-jerk reaction. Half a season = a bust? Man.... What's Tallon going to do, hand the reins to Adam Munro? Conklin doesn't seem too bad, but I'm not sure he'd do any better than Khabibulin. Dollar Bill must be b****ing HARD into Tallon's ear if he's looking to deal Khabibulin at all right now.

How close were the Sox from moving to Tampa?
The Critic replied to zenryan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I had a letter to the editor printed back then. I had drawn a logo for the St. Petersburg White Sox that looked kind of the St. Louis logo, but it formed a dollar sign. It would certainly be interesting to see how that move would have worked out, but I can't imagine the neverending grief Sox fans would have taken from the Baby Bear Cult. -
Glaring omission from this list: LosMediasBlancas That man knows his tunes.
-
I'll have the Beatles and Dylan, you can keep everything else on that list.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 04:38 PM) Harry & Jimmy were the best ever--Amen! Jimmy forgot more about baseball than most people know. Maybe, but he HAS forgotten it all. He has a great past ahead of him.

Carmen and Silvy to get the Ax?
The Critic replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I like DeFalco a lot, but Silvercub is so f***ing annoying that he kept me from listening to their show. I also miss the Kevin Wheeler show. That new overnight host (Stein?) is boring, and I never listen to 670 overnight anymore. -
I wonder if Deploderer's votes will suffer for having his name misspelled?

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 19, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) Doesnt the guild of comedians have some sort of anti-doping law? I don't think they do, after all Sosa is pretty goddamned funny!

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 01:44 PM) See, atleast I have listened to a TON of Anthrax to have based my opinion. You have only heard what...two songs? Bonehead. Actually, I've only heard whatever they used to play on classic rock radio. Haven't gotten around to the songs you sent me. I was just tryin' to raise your spines and apparently I did a fairly decent job of it. heh heh....."bonehead"..... As far as Anthrax goes: Didn't like Neil Turbin's voice or the first album. Belladonna's voice is kind of grating but the songs were solid until they went TOO goofy with the rap stuff and the beach shorts and all that. Spreading The Disease and Among The Living are in my Top 25 of discs by anyone ever. John Bush, while a better singer than Joey, has zero personality either as a singer or onstage. Their songs as a whole are weaker during the Bush era. It's no coincidence that the best Bush-era disc is the "cover disc" of Belladonna-era songs.

I have a "print" feature on my computer which, when working in tandem with a nearby printer and a pushpin, automatically places the White Sox 2006 schedule on my cubicle wall.

Pierzynski, Widger return behind the plate in 2006
The Critic replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just one more way to say that AJ is THE MAN! ....and Widge is also The Man, just not as often as AJ is THE MAN! -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) But that should have happened back around...oh...1985. Shame it took the world so long to realize something sucked so bad. When did Humble Pie form?

That is SO great of Comcast to show that many Spring Training games. Thank God the NHL is still not playing so they can broadcast all these Sox games.......what's that?......they did?.......they are??......even the Blackhawks???......no way.......

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 18, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) Anthrax got booted??? This isn't a first though, is it? No, they also got booted from their record label and from the collective memory of the American music-buying public.

I refuse to take part in such a retarded thread.

QUOTE(DePloderer @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 03:03 PM) What the F@@K! What is this about the English and bad teeth? I'll say it just once, we do not have any worse teeth in England than any other country, we have a great national health service over here and my teeth are checked every 6 months. My American wife has had here VERY crooked teeth straightened FREE OF CHARGE ( while pregnant ), her parents couldn't afford to have it done when she was a kid in Virginia. Please enough of the steriotiping.........and yes I suppose you did touch a nerve here. Ahhhhhhhhhh, go brush yer teeth!!!!

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 17, 2006 -> 11:48 PM) Remember to keep this to the legal sites, we have a policy to not mention other sites and services. I know this guy who sells mp3s out of the trunk of his car. He tells me they're totally legal, and since it's HIS car and everything, why would he lie?
