QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Oh boo hoo go watch the Red Wings while you're at it. The Red Wings have done a very nice job of adjusting to the "new NHL" and the salary restraints therein. A lot of people thought they would suffer from having to dump all that salary, but there they are in first place. I know this is unpopular, but I've always had a soft spot in my cold black heart for the Red Wings. Besides, the Winged Wheel is the best logo in sports in my humble opinion.

QUOTE(Pierzynski 12 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:45 PM) That was lame. I chuckled. That was pretty good coming from 2K5, they're usually MUCH worse.

QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 01:24 PM) The Bears and Blackhawks have pretty cool fight songs. I should have clarified, I excluded fight songs because those are more of an "official" team thing ( kind of like college fight songs ) and not a fan tribute or novelty song. That said, I don't really follow football ( I know, BLASPHEMY ), and the Blackhawks are just too painful on every level right now.

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 10:54 AM) i can only think of 2 possible responses. it wasn't that bad or it was as bad as i thought it could have been. FWIW, my wife LOVED Wicked, as did my Mom and her Mom. I guess it's an estrogen thing.

Oh, was that today? I hadn't heard anything about it.... While I still don't miss Stern, I have to say that the few minutes I was unfortunate enough to hear "Rover" were absolutely unbearable. Oh Lord, what a waste of airtime THAT show is. Predictable, lowest-common-denominator, bottom-shelf garbage.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:27 PM) The thing is for a guy with those tools, you give him one "Get out of Dusty free" card. Sometimes a change of scenery can be what sparks a guy. It very well could be that seeing him get dumped for crap opens his eyes a little bit. In that case, Baltimore is a big winner. In the case that he is the same old Korey, you drop him after one year, and all you lost was $3 million and two nothing prospects. Its a low-risk, high reward move that looks more like a Kenny Williams trademark move. That could happen, but put me in the "Permanent Sulk" betting pool. Patterson just seems like a "me boy" and a moper. But it is a low-risk, high-potential move for the Orioles - too bad for Miggy that this is the only kind of move Baltimore makes lately.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 12:04 PM) Critic, are you ever NOT sick??? Thanks for noticing! Not lately, I'm not "never not sick". How many negatives are in THAT sentence? I used to NEVER get sick. Seriously, I could shovel snow in a t-shirt and sweats and never get sick. Now I'm f***in' sick from October to May. It blows ass. I had to cancel my "late Christmas" with my cousin cuz I just couldn't put it together to drive to Mokena. So now we're not going to exchange Christmas gifts until January 21st. ( He works a railroad schedule of 11 days on, 3 days off ) ...I do feel pretty good today, though.....I guess I'm "in between illnesses"....

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Looks like I overestimated how long Ruutu would stay in the lineup. I knew I shouldnt give any of the Hawks benefit of the doubt. True, but to defend Ruutu, this was a freak injury and unrelated to any previous problems he had. Still, though, that kid is snakebitten, and so is that franchise. Scratch that - the franchise is f***ed from the top down. Ruutu is snakebitten.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 03:12 PM) It doesn't take a Cub fan to see that he has some talent. Nobody is saying the guy has been anything but a bust as a major leaguer. But he has had some success (first half of '03) and has the tools that lead people to believe that if he were to figure some things out, he'd be a good player. I personally think the odds are against it, but with the right coaching, and a change of attitude from Patterson, I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to at least be decent. This is the problem. He's uncoachable. He insisted (stupidly) that NO Cub coach at ANY level talked to him about bunting or being a leadoff hitter. This is ridiculous. HE is ridiculous. The only chance the Orioles have to get anything from Patterson is to let him be the player he thinks he is. Let him flail crazily at anything and everything in the hopes of connecting, accept the 120 Ks per year and under NO circumstances ask him to do anything involving plate discipline or team play. Of course, the Orioles ARE in the position to allow him to play selfishly, since they are struggling to avoid last place in the AL East, so maybe "Corey with a K" can put up some meaningless numbers for them.

From "5 tools" to "2 minor leaguers" in two years. Add one more ultra-hyped Cub flop to the pile.

Slackhawks make it a perfect 10

There's a lot of blame to go around. Yawney seems to have little or no system to speak of. The players seem to scramble a LOT. Tallon picks up total money-wasters like Matthew Barnaby. Wirtz continues to run the team like it's a "members-only" country club, alienating the few people who still give half a f***. Plus, their new "face of the franchise" can't stay healthy and their marquee free-agent pickup struggles early to dig them a hole, then gets injured himself. This team is a complete mess right now, and I'm not sure firing Yawney would do anything to turn it around. The next coach would still be stuck with fourth-liners on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines. -
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jan 9, 2006 -> 04:21 AM) I don't think anyone can rightfully say the theme song to the White Sox's championship run was any better than this song. It's not that bad. Obviously it's one that doesn't go on your iPod, but I can't see how people are puking over it? It's jazz bazed, and I guarantee that somewhere down the line many of you will be drunk in a Chicago bar and that song will come on and you'll all go, "Good times." It's a song about the White Sox for heaven's sake. Not love, life and everything. It's pretty terrible. It sounds like something Ana Gasteyer would have sung on SNL. As hard as it is for me to say, being a Journey hater, Don't Stop Believin' is 1,000 times better than that song. I must say, though, that I've never heard one team-based song I've liked. I don't like that 50's GoGo Sox song, the Super Bowl Shuffle made me :puke , and I don't even like Go Cubs Go!!!! Don't Stop Believin' wasn't written for a sports team, it was just co-opted by one - that alone makes it better than any team-based song.

I didn't do anything, I was sick most of the weekend. Stayed in and wasted time on the Internet. Did some laundry, dishes, and tried not to breathe on the kid. Sounds like your weekend was a LITTLE better than mine.

Friday the 13th is a very fitting day to show a Hawks game. They're scary this year....to everyone but their opponents, that is....

Also, Ruutu and Curtis Brown were lost to injuries. Ruutu suffered a deep cut to his ankle from the goal post and I think Brown suffered a concussion. 2 more losses to tie the all-time record. -
from rollingstone.com: The Who will launch a world tour this summer that will bring the band to North America for its first extended trek in nearly four years. "We plan to visit the USA, Europe, Japan, Australia and also South America," manager Bill Curbishley says. The group -- which now consists of Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend backed by bassist Pino Palladino, keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick, drummer Zak Starkey and guitarist (and Pete's brother) Simon Townshend -- was forced to take a hiatus in 2005 due to Starkey's touring commitments with Oasis and Palladino's stint with the John Mayer Trio. " I don't want to stop, and I don't think Pete does," frontman Roger Daltrey told Rolling Stone in the fall. The Who have been working on a new album, Who2, on and off for the past decade and are scheduled to go back into the studio in February. There's no word on whether the summer tour will feature new songs, but in March guitarist Pete Townshend posted in his online diary, "I feel I can't tour any more with the Who without a new record." ....have fun at the show and please don't feel obligated to tell me about it....

Report: Iguchi to skip Baseball Classic

It's okay with me, the WBC is a joke. Meaningless tournament which can only lead to needless injuries. -
If either of them play well enough in spring training, and a position is open for them, and they DON'T make the team because of what happened in winter ball, then I think that's a bad decision based on a grudge.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 7, 2006 -> 10:22 AM) Very simple (i am not trying to be racist here), but all those others actually LEARN english when they come to America! I know quite a few Polish people who know not one word of English. There were a TON of them in my neighborhood growing up. You'd have to point at stuff and show them numbers in a store and stuff like that. I also know quite a few Latinos who are more fluent and versed in the English language than I am. To blanket ANY race is racist, whether intended or not. -
QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 05:18 PM) Fender...ugh...best thing about Fender is that they own Gretsch. Otherwise...ew. ALL RIGHT!!! GUITAR FIGHT!!!!! I hope this argument ends with a "solo duel" on a lonesome dirt path like at the end of "Crossroads"!

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Heineken is "icky". It tastes like a macro US imitating a German beer with funky imitation tastes. IMO. Just a weird flavor. Oh, and the one Heinie commercial kills me. It's O.K. to set fire to a $1000+ Gibson Les Paul, but NOT O.K. to spill your lowsy beer on it. Sorry, I'm holding auditions, if the person sets fire to their guitar, I'm hitting them with the damn beer bottle. God damn beer AND guitar elitists.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 02:20 PM) I never understand how people get so f***ing fat. Are they really that lazy? This poll really makes me annoyed, this is one thing I wish we didn't beat houston in. Is it that hard to 1) Put the fork down? 2) get to the gym? I understand that there are rare cases where people have medical problems thyrod being one of them, but with that said..This is something I am embrassed to say I live here. Yep. Too hard. Not too hard for everyone, just too hard for me. I'm way lazy. Oops, sorry. As long as they make bigger clothes, I'm okay. Until I have to call in fat to work, I will happily waddle on. If a report about fat people in your city makes you embarrassed of where you live, you MIGHT be too sensitive.
