QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) ANy rumors on how they will do the hockey draft? New York teams first, "for the good of the league".

QUOTE(frahungski @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) i'm not trying to be negative or anything, but i haven't been able to see too many games this year. the point is, i haven't seen us beat any good pitchers. the only time i can remember us getting more than 2 or 3 runs off of a good pitcher is against maddux in the first cubs series. so... who have we beaten? Dominant divisional record so far. Something like 25-5. To win the division, you must beat the division. I don't care who's pitching for the other team, you need to beat the teams that are put in front of you. The Sox have been doing that thus far.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) when did he say this? While his nurse was wiping spilled baby food off his straightjacket...

QUOTE(Benson&Rexage @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) I dont know that much about hockey but it would seem to me that as bad as the Blackhawks have been the past four or five years they would try to hire a big name coach or a former Blackhawk player to try and restore some interest in the city of Chicago for this quickly dying franchise and sport. To me hiring a minor league coach does not seem like the answer. Who knows maybe it will work like when the Cleveland Indians hired Lou Brown to mangage their team in major league. How would you feel about managing the Cleveland Indians? I got a guy on the other line about some White Walls, let me call you back Well, Yawney was a former Hawk, but I know what you mean, a guy like Mikita or Hull or someone like that. Yawney is a solid hire, but unfortunately the general reaction around here is the same as his nickname...."Yawns". He's going to do some good things with this young team, though. ....if they play this year.....

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) That's correct. Thank god I'd still be able to watch. Yeah, we'd both probably be forced by law to watch MORE....
-
QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) That should be a law somewhere then. What, that you CAN'T be good-looking and watch TV??

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Why the green??? Didn't want to hurt his feelings, and I know everyone erases the green when they read it anyway....

QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) Welcome to Soxtalk, Brad Pitt. Don't have to be good-looking to watch TV, smart guy....

And right after Piersall made his comments, he pissed his pants, ran the bases backwards and climbed a fence. Question: when Derek Jeter needs to take a s***, does he have to pry Rob Dibble's lips off his ass with a crowbar? JESUS, what a love letter THAT was. I'm glad Podsednik's going, but I wouldn't have cared either way if he didn't win the vote. I'm just glad the "Face Of Baseball" won't be there. Maybe they can have Jeter throw out the first pitch, run towards the stands and bash his face against a box seat.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) I never check the profiles. I've always felt weird doing that, almost like peeping. It's one of those areas that as long as I don't do it, I am not an internet loser. Just ignore my post count...on all 20 boards I visit...thanks... Your 20-board post totals STILL don't equal ss2k5's total here, though.....

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) You make a good straight man. There's something wino will never hear.....not even from Bea Arthur.....

QUOTE(Nokona @ Jul 7, 2005 -> 11:35 PM) This will not do anything for Patterson. The poor kid has less than an ounce of confidence in the first place, and now they're sending him to Iowa? He should just retire from the Cubs organization. I know he sucks but the talent is there no doubt. It's unfortunate that the next Griffey turned out to be the next Cade McNown. Wait, who am I kidding. Cuck the Fubs. Patterson has TONS of confidence, but it's misplaced confidence. He refuses to adjust to anything because he thinks his "5 tools" are enough to get him by. He lacks the brains to maximize his physical skills. His defense is over-rated, he has a pus arm and he refuses to work pitch counts to his advantage. He's too stubborn to listen to major-league coaches, so why should anyone think he'll listen to a coach in Iowa? This may turn out to be a very good move for the Cubs with the only drawback being that they lower Korey's trade value. Hairston might actually relax now that he'll have a set position, they got that DH/PH Dubois out of the picture ( he can't play the outfield to save his life ), and they get a chance to give a couple young guys a look.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 8, 2005 -> 06:53 AM) or Connie Chung Hey, to each his own, Tex!! ....although Connie Chung doesn't even seem as wrong as wino's Bea Arthur fetish....

Yikes, what a morbid poll! I'm voting 0, just to Keep Hope Alive!!!
-
She's okay, but she can't touch Jamie Chung! This season is REAL boring, though, and none of the girls are hot enough to keep me tuning in.
-
Either Trust by Megadeth or Killed By Death by Motorhead both awesome intros, and long enough to get me to the mound without having to repeat it.
-
I'd be bummed if the Sox didn't do as well as I hope they can, but it doesn't affect my mood like it used to. I have enough real things to think about, I'm not letting sports mess with my mind. I'm just enjoying every Big Hurt 3-run jack, every AJ walkoff magic moment, every Scotty Pods swipe, every Dream Pollitte "makin' it look easy" outing, every knee-slappingly hilarious Ozzie press conference, and if the big prize doesn't come our way, well, that shouldn't exactly SURPRISE anyone, since it's been 8 decades plus since any Sox fan got to brag about being the champs! Life is a series of moments, enjoy the good ones and try to let the bad ones vanish quickly........................that's quite "zen", isn't it?

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 11:37 PM) Way to go, guys!! Since getting booted from the other site, I have come to enjoy Soxtalk a lot. Have they ever had an on-air mention? Wills used to mention WSI a lot during the postgame shows. WSI also gets mentioned in the newspapers quite a bit. Nice to see Soxtalk get a shout from the Hawkaroo and Feisty! I am surprised by this, though....I didn't think Mike ever stopped posting here long enough to compose an email.....

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) I had 1983 last night. I considered that to be a good sign. I had 64539. I don't think that was a sign either way.

Would you trade for Kerry Wood?
The Critic replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) If you want to go ahead and argue that Clemens is a better pitcher than Wood, you will recieve no disagreements from me. Although I absolutely believe that Clemens is much better than Wood, that wasn't really the point of my post. I was merely saying that Clemens would be a better fit for the Sox than Wood because of durability, playoff experience/success, and reputation. He's scarier than Wood despite Kerry's 20-K game 7 years ago. Especially since the two guys would cost the Sox roughly the same amount of players in return, give me the short-term "sure thing" over the long-term question mark. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) HE'S A WITCH, BURN HIM!!!!!! ....if he weighs the same as a duck..... "...he's made of wood?..." ....and therrrrreforrrrrre.....? "A WITCH!!!!"

Would you trade for Kerry Wood?
The Critic replied to Al Lopez Ghost (old)'s topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:28 PM) Kerry Wood's special problems are not with his pitching. Jose's are. Yes, I concede that Wood is an injury risk, and a rather big one. In the purely hypothetical situation of the Sox acquiring him (which is laughable, but let's discuss it anyway) we would basically be gambling on him already filling his injury quota for the season. Kerry Wood dominated in the 2003 playoffs up until Game 7 of the NLCS. Yes, he had a partner in crime, but he'd have several if he came to the Sox as well. I still maintain that if this team acquired a pitcher of Wood's caliber this season, it would be the greatest moment in franchise history. A dominant power pitcher would make us that good. A dominant power pitcher WOULD add a certain something to the Sox. I just don't think Wood's the right guy. Clemens? Now THAT I'd love to see.... -
I seem to recall Frank insisting that he was a power hitter last year or the year before, and that he would sacrifice batting average for bombs. Any chance you think he may be taking advantage of the ankle situation to continue this approach at the plate? ....just asking....put down the torches and the rocks.....

QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 6, 2005 -> 01:24 PM) I've been living under a rock i guess. What the hell BBTN? Baseball Tonight. It should probably be BT, but they added the second B and the N.

I'll be there Saturday in the bleachers with my nephews, who are Cub fans AND A's fans. They're still good kids, they just dress funny....
