  1. This is a good point. Hopefully, the Spanks will be slow to jell, and the Sox can take a series win from them. Hell, who knows, if the Sox have a chance for a sweep, maybe THIS manager will actually go for it??? And Shoe as a #3 is a bit frightening, but really, between the first go-round and the playoffs, the number in the rotation doesn't mean much. You just take the ball when it's your turn and throw. Maybe Oz wants a left-right-left-right-left thing ( assuming Cotts or another southpaw takes the 5 spot )?
  2. Hey, Show, what's with the Spankee-Lovin' sig? I want to :puke when I see it. Couple of freakin' Metrosexuals.....

    The Darkness

I apologize if this topic has been done before - I searched for their name, but didn't see any previous threads about them. I have to see The Darkness because one of my all-time favorite bands, The Wildhearts, are opening for them ( which SUCKS because that cancelled the WH's headlining show at the Double Door AND because now I have to go to f***in' Milwaukee to see them - the Darkness' show at the Vic was sold out ). I've been checking out their videos on their website and if they had a real singer instead of that f***ing Tiny Tim/Freddie Mercury clone, they'd be a great band! Anybody love them? Hate them? Any opinions?

    The Oscars

Two fearless predictions: The show will suck. I won't be watching. PUT THOSE IN THE BANK!!!!!!
  5. I listened to a lot of this morning's "Talking Baseball" broadcast and it seems that a LOT of baseball people are coming away impressed with how Ozzie's running camp so far. It sounds like there's a VERY positive attitude, good communication, and special attention paid to the pitching staff. The part that seems to impress the people I heard on the show was Oz's knowledge of and attention to pitching. Will this carry over to regular-season wins and losses? Who knows? It certainly can't HURT a team to have a good feeling about themsleves in camp, though, and this year seems much more positive than last. Every picture I see, people are smiling and joking around - that's great to see. I have to say, I'm getting excited about this season and I can't WAIT til Thursday, when the first pre-season radio broadcast will occur. I just hope Ed Farmer doesn't say anything as stupid as last year's repeated "Frank Thomas has to have a good spring to make this team". He must have said that 10 times in Spring Training.....dolt....
  6. I'll take Konerko numbers that look like July-September of 2003. Which also happen to be the most recent numbers. Agreed, though, that he needs to perform over the entire season. Same can be said for the Sox as a team - it seems they play well for one half of the season ( usually the second half ) and stink out the joint for one half ( usually the first half ). PK cannot be one of the main reasons for 2003 being ruined AND be insignificant to this year's chances. And I would under NO circumstances want Mr. Anti-Clutch, Fred McWhiff, at 1b for the White Sox. Besides the fact that he's worse defensively BY FAR than Frank Thomas, he's purely and solely interested in his 30 HR and 100 RBI, and I don't want a selfish player like him around.

    New Version

    http://mirrored.flabber.nl/bloody.pingu/ Bloody Pingu.....with landmines!!!
  8. Not unexpected that he'd have some muscle problems on his way back, but the groin can be a problem that stays with you. Too bad, I really like Jon Lieber. I hope for his sake ( NOT for the sake of the Spankees, although unfortunately the two are linked ) that it's a temporary setback. I did want the Sox to take a chance with him, just because he's a true professional and, when healthy, a very effective pitcher.
  9. Where do you like to sit? A chair is good.... Baseball - bleachers or behind the plate Hockey - middle of the ice, halfway up Basketball, Football, Soccer, etc etc etc - who cares
  10. They'll probably ask Brian which team he wants to play for when you guys show up!!
  11. I'll STFU if Frank will. But neither of us really will. By the way, PLEASE don't equate my distaste for Frank's sour grapes with any criticism of his hitting skills - he is STILL the greatest hitter ever to wear the Sox uniform, he is also maybe the most sensitive and b****y person to wear it, too. One does NOT negate the other, in either direction.
  12. Best sentence of this entire article: In fact, the Sox might have an easier time winning their mediocre division than the Cubs will have winning the National League Central. This is very true - IF the Sox play up to their capabilities and get a couple breaks, they can win the weak AL Central. This is what the Cubs did last year - they were not a powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination, but the weak division they played in allowed them to hang in there and take advantage of a VERY soft September schedule.
  13. He was definitely whining, YAS, and he brought it up on the radio interview I heard without being specifically asked about his pay or contract. He was asked about his apparently happy mood and he said something along the lines of "I am happy, well, you're never happy about everything..." and then went off on his salary complaint. Wore out the already overworked "respect for what I've accomplished" routine, forgetting or omitting that HE signed a contract which allowed the Sox to reduce his salary if he didn't reach certain goals. Nobody had the gun to his head, he signed it, so he has to live with it. End of story....at least it SHOULD be....

    Nike Commercial

I don't watch commercials. I LOVE my remote control for that reason alone. This is me watching Chappelle's Show.... "We're gonna take a quick commercial break....." zipzipzipzipzipzipzipzipzipzipzip ( the sound of the TV scouring 11 channels in 2 minutes ) "We're back....."
  15. He and his agents signed a contract with a "diminished skills" clause included and then he gets mad when the clause is utilized? :headshake And what exactly does he think will be gained by whining about it to the writers?
  16. I watched almost the entire game....and felt nothing. Odd feeling not to care AT ALL how the Hawks were doing, and to be more interested in watching Rick Nash than ANYONE wearing the "road white" uniforms. Road white uni's = :puke in case anyone forgot. I think the Worst Disorgan-I-zation has finally killed off the last remaining shreds of fandom I had left. I'm going to the UC on March 19th, but I'll be wearing my Canucks road jersey, and NOT buying any food or drink while I'm there. :fyou your concessions stands, Worst. I still love hockey, and the NHL, I just don't have any interest left in the SlackHawks anymore. They've joined the Bears and Bulls in my "who cares" pile.
  17. Very well written. Good points, delivered well. Let us know if he replies.
  18. Yeah, they thought it was a goat and they wanted to "Reverse The Curse"!
  19. Throw JUST the hands and genitalia in prison, or the rest of the offender?? It would be funny seeing a guy's hands and junk in a jail cell and he wants to pay them a "conjugal visit"!

    The Onion

THIS is a funny story: http://www.theonion.com/opinion.php?i=1&o=1
  21. No. SnR is dead. RPS got a little tired of having the "SnR Studios" trashed by the likes of Mr. Showtime and CubKilla ( ) and I think he wanted to "spend more time with his family". ( I love that line that athletes use when they retire or play for their hometown team ). Fun while it lasted, but it's gone now.
  22. I guess I understand what he was trying to say - that maybe he put too much pressure on himself to perform when he was seen as the main offensice threat, but it sure comes off like self-love when you see it in print or in a sound bite. and not to throw fuel on the fire, but his face looked a little thinner coming into camp this year - those big jowls he's had the past couple years are gone....the arms looked a LITTLE smaller too.....hmmmmm.......
  23. My favorite thing Frank said so far: "What he ( Ozzie ) was trying to do was let people know this is his team now and he's coming in to take over and on the first day to let everyone know, 'I don't care who you are on this team, I'm the manager now,' and that's fine," he said. "I have no problem with that. He wasn't trying to get under my skin." It's nice to see that Frank gets it, even if too many fans and media people don't. All Oz was doing at that press conference was marking his territory, if you will, and responding directly to a question about Frank. The LAST thing Oz needs is an unhappy Frank.
  24. Never seen Garofalo, never would. Not my style. I'm just saying that no one should charge that kind of money for people to watch rehearsal. It was advertised as a night of comedy, not a night of working out the kinks for an HBO special. He went back and did a bit a second time, for Chrissakes!! Awful, and very disappointing. I've seen Cho twice ( my wife is a big fan of hers ) and while I think she's very funny, she has waaaaaaaay too much pent-up anger over her body image and how it's affected her career. That part of her set is always boring, predictable and unfunny. As far as funny females, I enjoy Judy Gold quite a bit. There are a couple others who I've seen on Comedy Central, but their names escape me. And another male standup I enjoy is Greg Fitzsimmons. He cracks me up somethin' FIERCE...
  25. I heard an interview with Koch on Talking Baseball on Sunday. Didn't hear the entire interview, but what I DID hear made NO mention of velocity. Billy talked about control and arm slot and managing his pitches better, but nowhere was any mention of speed. Thought that was a little ominous....but again, I missed some of it, so maybe they covered it during the part I didn't hear. Sox need him to bounce back. I REALLY hope he does, even though I was hoping for Marte to close.
