  1. Now now, Steff - what a boring world we'd live in if EVERYONE liked the same exact things....by the way, how was Roderick The Crooner ( as I saw him referred to in the paper )? Were you one of the thousands sitting on their hands during the crooning session?
  2. I'm looking forward to seeing Shingo throw, too. I always like pitchers with weird deliveries. Of course, if the weird delivery leads to a 450-foot homer, then I'm not so thrilled. I'm going to give him a chance, though.
  3. I'm still into it. Sox will still contend for the AL Central, mostly because everyone is not that great. Looking forward to going to a few games, but with the ticket increases I won't be going to very many ( 5 tops, I figure, unless they're in the race in September, then I'll try to go to a few more - YA HEAR ME, JERRY??? THAT'S THE WAY IT WORKS!!!!! ) Baseball is still a great way to spend an afternoon or evening in the summer, better than most other ways I can think of.
  4. Didn't mean to shock you, Show! I'm just SO tired of this "poor poor us" attitude from Sox fans and now the players themselves. The Cubs are getting media attention LATELY for the things they have done on and off the field. Like it or not, they came very damn close to the World Series last year, with only the flukiest fluke of all flukes keeping them from it. I was absolutely certain that a 3-run 8th inning lead would be enough with Prior on the mound, but there you have it. After that implosion, Game 7 was a given for Florida. Since then, they have addressed most of their preceived weaknesses with solid acquisitions ( 1B, RH and LH setup, bench bats, etc. ) and have only increased their chances for postseason success this year. I feel less annoyed by the media attention given them this year because they've actually DONE something to deserve it. It's not like the media is fawning over a 68-win team, as they have done in the past. If the Sox are that pissed off about it, DO something about it - win some games, win a title, make some noise in the playoffs! But please don't whine in the papers about it!
  5. More boo-hooing. It's not getting old, it's old already. Win baseball games and the coverage will take care of itself. If they want to see their names in the paper so bad, they should go join the Cubs.
  6. Keep him away from the Silver And Black Pack!!!
  7. Ever since Carlin charged me 25 bucks to watch him hash out new material off a yellow legal pad ( very POORLY, I might add ), he's off my list. My 5 favorites( not saying these guys are all-time classics, they just always make me laugh ): Bill Hicks Chris Rock The Amazing Jonathan ( I'm kinda embarrassed to list him, but damned if he doesn't make me laugh every time I see him ) Sam Kinison Brian Regan
  8. My take on it is that Ruth dominated in his era more than anyone has dominated in theirs. That, added to his pitching prowess, still makes him the best in my book. If it was so easy for hitters back then, why was he the only one putting up those numbers? It's easy to say ( and more than likely, very correct to say ) that the Babe Ruth we see in those old films wouldn't stand a chance in today's game - but would he have looked like that if he had access to the same dietary/training/coaching advancements that today's players have access to? Probably not. Fact is, this and any other list/argument of who was/is the greatest is merely grist for the mill, something to discuss and argue about, which is one of the best things about sports anyway, I think.
  9. Not sure I understand how use or non-use of the "F-bomb" makes you more or less of a man. Some of the best, most honest and stand-up people I've ever know tossed around the F-bomb liberally. By the same token, I've known some hideous people who refused to swear, yet somehow did NOT refuse to cheat on their wives or threaten their kids with violence. IMO, use of "foul language" is not a fair barometer of the entirety of a person's character. I f***in' hope that little f***in' rant of mine makes some kind of f***in' sense to you f***s....
  10. It is absolutely crucial for the Sox to come out of the gate strong. I can't remember the last time a Sox team dug themselves a hole and THEN climbed back out of it. If they don't do well early, they just don't seem to do well at all. And I think it's a good thing that the Sox have early challenges - I think it'll give an indication of the makeup of the team and it SHOULD make sure that the team comes out focused and ready to perform. Last year's start was supposed to be fairly easy, with a bunch of KC ( and I believe, Detroit ) games early, and we saw how that turned out.

    nader '04???

Nader may actually be a Republican operative, sent in to destroy the chances of any threatening Democratic presidential candidate. How very clever, indeed - disguise a Republican spy as a political outsider, have him appeal to the undecided and disenfranchised voters, sway them AWAY from the Democratic candidate and ensure 4 more years for GW. ....it ALLLLLLLL makes sense to me now......
  12. heh...hey, YAS, you trying to suggest that Soxtalk posters are too negative or something??? Seriously, I think it's a waste of time trying to read too much into what Ozzie says or doesn't say. He talks A LOT, so there are going to be a lot of omissions and repetitions in his interviews. Just look at how many times he's used his "play the game the right way" catchphrase. Ozzie just seems to jabber a lot, so dissecting every quote will just be too frustrating before too long.

    Eurotrip

Glad to see a good review of it. The previews hadn't looked too promising. Still probably going to wait for the second-run theatre or rental, though.
  14. I don't know if I'll ever recover from that stinging retort.... I guess if you contributed anything humorous yourself, it could be considered a start...
  15. Lenient Leo strikes again.....what a dope.
  16. Or you could use the ever-popular "It was taken out of context" - that seems to be the Great Quote Eraser.
  17. You didn't seem to mind when it was ShamME, Killa!!
  18. Wouldn't you rather have a sense of humor than a break?
  19. He's worried about being patient, because patience gets you nothing.....nada.....
  20. Realistically, the only question is who the 5th guy is gonna be. The four "other guys" are pretty much set in stone, unless Shoney implodes. My guess for #5 is Cotts.
  21. well, to be fair, the green would have made a BIG difference... ( exhale )......whew.....that's better.....
  22. You honestly don't see that as part of a bigger pattern of bad judgment? Doing something THREE times that he knows he's going to be tested for, AFTER being given a break in a situation where he realistically could have seen jail time? It smacks of a blatant disregard for any legal restraints - this time ( these times, actually ) it may be pot, but what's to stop him from doing anything worse? Not HIMSELF, apparently, and not probation...
  23. Maybe he was misquoted? With his accent, maybe "Schoenweiss" sounded like "all those guys"! ...I can hear it....
  24. I love negative optimism! "DAMMIT, we're gonna have a good year, I can just FEEL it......AWWW CRAP!!!!!"
