  1. So only the top prospects are worthy of what you perceive to be an unfair and unjust system. Weird take.
  2. You're not going to sign with the pirates, that's for sure.
  3. No one convinced me to be a fan of the local team. It's called logistics and exposure Jack. I can't drive to Anaheim to watch trout after work. Local things are more relatable. Also, how are nfl and nba like that? Those leagues have drafts.
  4. Who chooses their first job? I was out there begging someone to hire me.
  5. I blame Ortiz. Fuck that guy.
  6. No. Which is why they've always thrown minor leaguers under the bus... but for foreign amateurs in an exploitative system they were hyper protective.
  7. Kind of amazing how willingly the MLBPA has given away the rights and earnings of American amateur players yet drew a weird hard line stance for foreign amateurs. I don't think they should give away $'s and etc for American amateurs but it is definitely weird. Edit: they were literally willing to harm members salaries with the QO for amateur foreign players not succumbing to a draft.
  8. Players that had the pandemic year and this year are really going to have to give up a measurable percentage of their career earnings. The mid-level and lower salaried players have to be near their wits end.
  9. ... but players didn't strike before the playoffs... and owners did lock them out. I don't understand your point.
  10. Not speaking for other sports, but because Americans aren't both learning to play baseball at a higher level while assimilating into an entirely different culture and language?
  11. Amazing thing about this is that the problem with baseball is too many teams just dont try to win and mid level players suffer from this. The cbt likely will just push upper end salaries higher while the middle continues to be neglected because competition has not been prioritized.
  12. 1makes sense to me, if the draft is the only hold up.
  13. Well, the players refusing to negotiate within a system because of illegal kickbacks going away seems rather implausible.
  14. Lol No one show South Side sox this!
  15. The money difference now, at least the legit legal dollars, are practically not different between current structure and the draft.
  16. You implied the players should accept because it was better than the last deal. My point is the bar is pretty low if you're using that as your baseline.
  17. I'm not at all defending the current system. I'm merely pointing out that the freedom to chose where to play matters much more to a player entering a culture and society that is vastly different than their own.
  18. I think people are really underselling comfort when getting acclimated to a new culture. People now make their decision based on money AND relationships. That comfort or offerings of assistance with assimilation are huge for any international player. It's not all about baseball. I think that's the major component here.
  19. The players got bent in the last deal leading to them losing like 3% of the total revenue share and it further destroyed the mid-level player. It also further promoted tanking and anti-competitive practices.
  20. Who says they're bullshit. Theres a shit ton of nuance and fine print in any deal. To say something is a great deal because of a couple leaked components is laughable imo.
  21. To think David fucking Ortiz is having significant pull on the international draft component is so ducked up. The guy is probably exploiting kids down there for MLB. Probably why he got shot.
  22. Literally impossible for us to know how good the deal is. All you've read about is owner leaks of their own proposal.
  23. Who gives a shit what this cheater thinks. Very few players I'm more tired from hearing from than Ortiz. Shame he has such an impact on DR players.
