Offseason Part 2 - Lets the Rumors & Action Begin
You guys both need help.

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
He's been terrible as a starter for some time; his stuff has always appeared much better than his production. I'd be surprised if the Sox let him start. Converting him to a RP might be a relatively savvy move. His injury history isn't good so who knows if he would hold up, but as a two pitch guy out of the pen (Fastball/CB or Slider) he might be able to get his velocity back up to 96+ as opposed to 93 that he was sitting as a starter last year. Honestly I'd rather run with Lopez as a spot guy over him, but I think Velasquez would have a better chance of turning himself into a viable reliever given his pitch repertoire.

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
He was a former decent sized prospect who was the headliner of the Ken Giles move.

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
Never understood why no one has tried this guy as a RP. Maybe Sox will give him some run there. This should be a minor league deal.

The new White Sox bullpen is a MAJOR upgrade
I swear you work in the White Sox sales department:
-
White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
If the Sox traded for someone like Tyler Mahle and signed one of Conforto/Castellanos this would make plenty of sense. If they plan on rolling into the season with Keuchel as the 5 and Engel/Vaughn/Sheets platooning RF/DH then this is just a terrible move.

If Sox are going to run a 215-220 million dollar payroll I'm fine with Graveman and Kelly, although I think very likely both take a step back. This is a head scratching move from a resource standpoint, less so from a player standpoint. Harrison is just head scratching in general, so I'll focus my negativity there lol.
-
Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
Harrison was literally released two years ago. Signed with Detroit, had a negative WAR season by a good bit, signed with the Nationals for 1 year ONE million and was worse than Leury in his best season since 2017... and then somehow parlays that into a 5.5 million dollar deal with the White Sox for his age 35 season. Amazing when you consider all of that.

Had plenty; guy, we've been "waiting to see how such and such play out" for two decades. lol

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
I know he had that tendon surgery in August, wasn't sure if he was out for the year. edit: Give me Chris Martin if he's out for the year. I'd even take 1/2 year of Nelson though.

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
I would have signed: Jimmy Nelson and Daniel Norris if I was signing an outfielder. And then thrown a flier at Cam Bedrosian. Would have been cheaper, and the expected outcomes wouldn't be all that different.

The Sox just spent 13 million; you're now pushing their payroll north of 200 million before a Conforto or outfield move. This team has done nothing to prove to me in the past that they're going to push that threshold, and I don't think they unload Kimbrel without taking some player with at least 50% of that contract back.

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Both. I like Kelly's attitude, he's fun to root for and he'll fit in with the organization. Those are some positives, even if I think he's more likely to be a 3.75-4 ERA guy next year; which would be serviceable enough. Harrison just makes no sense. Same complaint I had about Cesar when they got him but even worse. It's more likely that Leury has a better year than Harrison which is really really bad.

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Running out of quality options fast; that's the problem here. At this point it seems really unlikely they make any big splash in FA. Just gotta hope they don't screw the trade up too bad.
-
Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
Can't get over how bad this move is. Joe Kelly makes some sense to an extent and is a potentially quality player. Josh Harrison is replaceable by Romy Gonzalez. I'd say it's greater than 45% that Romy would outperform Harrison if they played the same amount next year.
-
White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Since 2019, Kelly has pitched 11.1 innings in the post-season and given up 10 runs. edit: I will say, compared to the Josh Harrison move this is like signing Babe Ruth.

The Sox have spent at least 20 million, technically 36 million, per year on their bullpen acquisitions this off-season. As of now, that'll likely be more than 70% of their total yearly amount allocated this off-season, if they move Kimbrel we're probably talking about 50-60% of their total resource allocation. You just can't tell me that 2 of the past three off-seasons, spending more than 50-60% of your total resources on relievers is a good strategy.

Lol

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Nah, I haven't said that. I can give a list of guys when I get home. That said, my strategy would never to be to buy old guys coming off career years.
-
Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
In 310 abs to start his carrer Madrigal was worth as much value as Harrison was in his best year since 2017 in over 500 abs.

Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
If it were a disorder I'd be mad at my mom for not giving it to me.

This is so stupid jack idk what to say.

Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
Same thing I said about the cesar acquisition but even worse honestly. He's not a guaranteed upgrade over leury. I'd actually argue he's a downgrade. Cesar at least possibly was an upgrade.

I'll say if the sox pull off a trade for Mahle I'll forgive everything Hahn has done. I'm a huge mahle guy. Guy could be a stud stud.

Signing relievers coming off career years is a bad strategy and allocation of resources.
