  1. Ha, I actually think the m's could surprise next year. Don't forget the mighty red Sox!
  2. Tell me why the blackhawks are named the Blackhawks since you've become so educated on native Americans due that lol You ever think maybe we should be taught about what really happened to natives in school instead of, you know, through professional sports caricatures?
  3. Im worried we're gonna be in for a bit of a rude awakening next year when we have to play teams that don't just play in the central.
  4. @RagahRagah I'm going to respond to your angry post in hopes of helping you understand. This will be the last time, as I prefer to go back and forth about the actual reason I post (the sox), not to calm you down. 1. Im not arguing with people, im having conversations about a game i love with fans who share a common cause. Im not trying to change opinions, im expressing mine. I post when I have a differing view more than when I agree which is natural. 2. Serious things in my life are my family, career, school, economics, and a fight for equality. Serious is not someone thinking Adam Eaton is Willie Mays. Im not doing it for shits and giggles, I post for fun and to take my mind off the real world - when the sox do something stupid I post to let off fan emotions (which are never all that serious but are a great way to get distracted from the real world for a minute.) Have i had bad days in my life that have trickled online? Im Sure, im human. Is this ever serious though? No, and if you think it is then I either envy your position in life, or you're just taking this way to personal. Lastly, do I care if im wrong or if someone calls me a name? No... because none of this is important. Its a game and a hobby. Take a step back. Now make a post so I can throw another laughing emoji on it. Oh and Adam eaton still sucks, I won't be happy with the signing ever, and that's because I'm not outcome driven, im process driven. Besides what grown man calls himself spanky?
  5. No worries. At least this time Tony didn't threaten to ban me for disagreeing with him. Those were good times. When you disagree with people it will bother them; I know what I sign up for with my style. Ragah still thinks we're having "serious" discussions; talking about baseball - a game - and a team none of us play for - a hobby. Apparently because I involve statistics - my background - that means it's a serious discussion. Really odd takes all around.
  6. Yeah, it's a bit confusing but he wasn't really Lozano's client as much as he was clients with the agency Lozano owns. Best example I can use is it sounds like Liam Hendriks pulled a Rod Tidwell. Who's coming with me!
  7. Yeah, younger people have taken over the movement and they don't people profiting off their culture. It was an interesting debate. There's actually been a real interesting push from the younger native group to hold the government accountable and get their land back in the dakotas and Oklahoma specifically. The young natives have been critical of some of the older natives for their "participation of their exploitation." That's a different discussion but my take away is if they're bothered by the logo and profiting off their culture i see no reason to continue it going forward. Given that it means nothing to me beyond being a piece or clothing.
  8. Well the native community very clearly said they were offended by it, and offended by them profiting off their culture which is why they cut ties with the organization. None of this offends me, but I'm not native so my opinion on what's offensive is entirely irrelevant. All I can do is defer to the people who are. And that article laid out why they were offended and bothered. Im not gonna post all the reasons listed but the profiting and lack of education were two big ones. edit: here's the link. Long but good read. Covers both sides of the discussion. https://theathletic.com/1888307/2020/06/25/is-it-time-for-the-chicago-blackhawks-to-drop-their-native-american-logo/
  9. Is Alignd Hannaford's new agency? I know he left MVP. Would make sense since Hendriks was his client at MVP.
  10. After reading the athletic piece last year, I'd say the Blackhawks should probably change the name. They profit off a name that most fans don't even know the true meaning behind. Teams shouldn't profit off people we tried to wipe off the face of the earth.
  11. Absolutely amazing to see people get offended or upset at a team for considering the thoughts and feelings of a group of people whom we committed genocide against; as if these people have some innate attachment to the name Cleveland "Indians." Good on Cleveland; there's literally no reason to have an offensive team name; people who take pride in the offensive team name just confuse me.
  12. I hope you're right; I'd like to turn back into Jerry's water carrier next off-season. Being the heel is getting hard on my mental health. ?
  13. Uh, I'm not having "serious" discussions. I'm talking about baseball on a fan message board. I think that's the problem your having, you are taking this a bit too seriously. I do just fine in the "adult" world. edit: sorry, instead you apologized for being a dick and stated that's not who you are in real life. See, I know I'm a condescending sarcastic guy who takes very little seriously in real life too... another small difference in our self awareness.
  14. Last issue is this compares results to payroll too much, which is directly correlated. The better you are the more fans you are to draw. By trying to look at $ per fan, you should already be accounting for the success. The sox pay increases correlate really well to the overall increase in league revenue. I agree attendance means something but their attendance was projected to be shit during the Machado off season too. Are the sox really implying Machado would have been their only move for years?
  15. Problem with this is payroll has grown substantially since the sox spent in the top 5 range. Look at the variance between the top and bottom 5 spenders in 2000-2005 vs 2015-2020. The sox actually look worse when compared to the average payroll by year too. Due to revenue growth, and team spending escalating year over year. The year has to be somewhere in the analysis imo. I used to believe the same as you - they'd spend top 5 if they won, but now that they're reluctant to spend 140 i find it almost impossible they'll spend in the 190-210 range so they'll never return to the peaks there but I hope I'm wrong.
  16. I talk to my best friend like that. All my buddies. Im sorry that word hurts your feelings. You literally attack people personally who disagree with you but I'm childish. This is amazing. Please, keep it coming.
  17. Lol you walk around calling people who disagree with you an ass hat and a moron; i call people buddy and pal and I'm the problem. You cant make it up.
  18. Only at soxtalk is buddy and pal condescending Banter worse than getting personal with name calling. What a world.
  19. Pal, if you cant handle condescending and sarcasm you should stop posting online. People are condescending and douchey to me everyday I post here, I dont cry and call them names. Tony, who is a moderator of this site, has done that to me multiple times. Does it bother me? No. Is it immature and embarrassing? I sure think so, which is why I leave my doucheyness to being condescending and sarcastic instead of getting personal with name calling.
  20. The 1.5 was already guaranteed. The option for the nationals was 9 million. Yeah, they let go of him without thinking about spending big. Makes you wonder hmmm.
  21. This is absolutely hilarious. Not only do I never call people names, such as prick, but I dont get defensive and start attacking the poster. I either reiterate my point or expound on it. Its weird that offends you. I also have people like you aimlessly, and unprovoked, call me something like a prick without crying and retaliating towards you because uh its not that big of a deal? Keep on being you though buddy.
  22. The buyout was 1.5. They had to pay that amount regardless. The 9 million is what he'd cost them to retain.
  23. It has some effect, sure, but it isn't the difference between signing a big free agent and not is my point. It's impact on overall spending has not been significant over the past 40 years.
