  1. No, I wouldn't be because amazingly enough Adam Eaton didn't win the World Series - the Washington nationals did. Your hypothetical is basically asking me if I'd be happy if we won the world series lol uh yeah, I would which is why I'm unhappy they signed a below average player to start in right field because that hurts there chances.
  2. The White Sox wanted to get a below average Major Leaguer when they signed Eaton? LOL ok. I'm not dancing around anything, and I'm not throwing around statistical jargon. I'm not sure why it's difficult for you to understand that better players are likely to perform better in the playoffs and World Series than a below average player. That's not advanced statistics, that's common sense to even people without statistical backgrounds. You can try and catch lightning in a bottle, but I'll go ahead and use the Sears Tower lightening rods instead. Would you say the Sox were successful if they signed me, I was the worst player in baseball, but then hit a game winning home run in game 7 of the World Series? Because that's basically what all these "What if" scenarios are.
  3. What? The National Park is one of the hardest to play defense in, says what? In terms of right field ground to cover, Nationals Park ranks 17th in baseball; almost smack dab in the middle of the league. In terms of total outfield area, the Nationals rank 11th from the smallest in all of baseball. There's nothing about Nationals Park that makes it one of the hardest to play defense in. It's actually pretty comparable to our own. And no, I use bWAR because DRS is a much more advanced defensive tool than UZR which is what Fangraphs uses to evaluate defensive value. It's why I use bWAR for position players typically and fWAR for pitchers. DRS is more predictive than UZR.
  4. Again, I don't excuse decisions that force a team to overcome a position of weakness to achieve greatness (a World Series) simply by saying "well, he had a good few games at one point in the season." It is much more likely that a very good right fielder would have a very good World Series than it is that a below average right fielder would have a very good World Series. The problem with being small outcome driven is you ignore the reality that he had to perform outside his expectations to achieve that while a good player merely needs to perform to their expectations.
  5. Thrilled with a 1.5 war? Nah, I'll pass.
  6. A massive upgrade in RF.... He gonna bounce back from his 1.5 bWAR in 2019 too lol?
  7. Some guys are just like that. Just a personal opinion and in the world of small sampler relievers it happens. I wouldn't pay hand 5 million, and I think he'll be complete trash sooner than later. Sox fans would despise hand as their closer.
  8. Yeah, I know his production has been good. Id never bet on him though.
  9. Yeah, huge downgrade. My goodness give this ignorance a rest.
  10. You expected a guy who has had one good year in his career at 30 and plays catcher, which historically aged poorly after 30, to get more than 4 years 4p million? I'm pretty shocked he locked up what he did.
  11. 4 years 43.5 million for James. Good for him. Now anyone who thinks the sox should of paid a back up catcher that money.... weird
  12. No Biggie, no need to delete anything.
  13. Cali i linked that thread and my one post in it about Dahl. You should probably stop putting words in my mouth; you've done it quite a bit.
  14. I was vehemently opposed to signing Dahl? I certainly wanted a proven player like Springer but I don't recall being vehemently opposed. This was the only post I made about Dahl on this forum. So no idea what you're talking about, you've got me confused with someone else.
  15. Half the cost, twice the ceiling. Weird.
  16. We're not talking about a 162 game season, Jack is talking about the ending standings. Jack implied, I assume because of their seed, that the sox got in due to expanded playoffs but thats actually wrong. Despite them having a seed outside the top 5 they would have been a playoff team under the previous playoff format. If he's doing what would happen over full season nonsense then thats even more nonsensical.
  17. Jack, you know this is wrong right? In a normal year the sox make the playoffs, they were actually hurt by the stupid new format where 2 teams from every division get in. They would be the second WC in a regular year. The central would have 3 playoff teams and the other two divisions 1 each.
  18. MLBNetwork laid off chris rose. What a joke. The MLB gets nothing right, ever. The best baseball show on TV by a mile and Rose was a huge reason for it. They keep the blowhard Chris Russo and lay off rose. Talk about being out of touch.
  19. Why is it that baseball - which is an outdoor game - is the only league crying the end of worlds is here and we need everyone else to subsidize our problems.
  20. I know Americans/people in general have a hard time seeing into the future which is why its difficult to tackle climate change when it is a dire problem, but things will return back to normal. Large crowd events will not go away. People take inherit risks everyday in life. 7k people die per day, 450 from accidents and etc, and as long as the death rates normalize (which already happened in October and September despite covid) and the media covers it responsibly, there's no reason why life should not return to normal sometime in the next 12 months. Edit ill add the image so people understand that covid has been bad and will likely add 100k+ excess deaths in 2020, there's no reason to believe that trend will continue into the future.
  21. This is true; I try my best to work with people though. I want to help people understand, even if they are a bit stubborn. As CWS noted in another thread, I'm married to a Colombian woman so I'm used to someone questioning everything I say 24/7. ? I was more frustrated at myself originally thinking I was explaining things wrong than I was at Vulture.
  22. Yeah, but there's a big difference between being guaranteed 100 million in a sport in which your career can be destroyed at any point and living comfortably and in wealth off his current wage. He's also already had TJ, already had his career take a horrible turn for the worst once - in which he had to reinvent himself to survive. I think Giolito likely understands how fragile this entire thing is; better than even the average professional athlete.
  23. This angle has always been a weird one to me. Just because your parents have money doesn't mean you want to be a grown man piggybacking off your parents wealth. Especially not elite athletes who have very high competitive drives; the last thing they want to do is live off their parents name or money. I think extensions have a lot more to do with your personal comfort or drive in the game; do you want to milk every dollar from the game as possible, or do you want to hedge a bit and guarantee that your main job/career sets you up for life. There's arguments to be made for both sides, but I really don't think someones parents wealth dictate extension talks.
