Eh, you guys hate on the manager and blame him for everything anyway. At least now you guys will be hating on a narcissistic prick and not a nicer guy. I can't stand larussa so ill just blame him irrationally whenever I want to blame someone on the sox. Ez pz.
-
to be fair, tony is not on record saying that this year. He said this when kaep first knelt and many more people were blasting him. I doubt Tony has learned much since then since being humble is not a real strength of his, but just wanted to clarify the time.

And was interested. I'm pretty bummed and I dont get it.

I heard they did not interview Bochy. Which is just awful. And make no mistake about it, every manager out there wants this job. Bochy was interested.

After reading the NY post article today on the Mets sale and de blasio, maybe Jerry will bring in A-Rod to mentor him as next Sox owner lol

For all who don't know this story: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/941717-ozzie-smith-tony-la-russa-lied-and-acted-like-a-coward "It wasn't so much about my playing time as the way it was done. I was under the impression I was going to have every opportunity to do what I do. I was told that the position would be earned in spring training. And I thought I did that. I did everything that was asked of me" The manager who led the Oakland A's to the 1989 World Championship responded. "This was the most disappointing thing in my career in St. Louis," said La Russa: "Twice to his face I told him that the other guy was a better shortstop on an everyday basis. All he's got to do is look in the mirror. And he can go out with honor and dignity rather than some kind of attempt at camouflage." I want to emphasize how distasteful and absurd LaRussa's comments were in response, but it reminds me so much of an immature young Kenny Williams response.

isn't the point of macro-analysis to help make micro-decisions? I agree that part of a managers decision is personal, human, and in-the-moment related but it can't be void of macro thought. Just because you can't quantify something, does not mean it doesn't exist. It's the managers job to read that extra percent to make the best decision.

Bernie is such a nice guy, but for a national baseball writer he really has no sources and his takes are usually pretty hot.

This is actually the best part to me; they don't even realize that they're telling on themselves when they post that ignorant nonsense. Rays make World Series with payroll 1/4 of Dodgers. Rays proceed to lose to said team... meatheads come out in droves to blast the idiotic analytics people who couldn't beat the Dodgers while spending 25% as much money. I found it more concerning that Cash said he'd do it again; like bro, you're supposed to learn from your mistakes. Let's work on not planning games at 2pm and never adjusting. That's not what analytics says to do.

and your posts are a great reminder why one shouldn't listen to old people and their big guts.

I almost feel the opposite; you ever spend 200 straight days around someone? If you can't connect with them, they rub you the wrong way by about day 10. In football and basketball, at least you have more time away from the dick head coach ha. -
Why do people at Soxtalk think Lance Briggs would have the slightest idea about who the Sox were hiring as manager lol
-
Oh great, Dave Duncan. This is such a Bruce tweet; don't be shocked if Dave Duncan is involved... he won't be a coach. So LaRussa is going to be brought in and start making non-coaching personnel moves? Jesus... Arizona 2.0 here we come. Vaughn and Madrigal got their bags packed and are ready to be shipped out for some pitcher who will be out of baseball in 2 years.
-
He has literally been quoted saying analytics have no place in a dugout once the games start.
-
I want to clarify this; I don't think Cash lost the game. Again, players didn't score runs and etc and the onus is on them. I do think that Snell shuts the door last night; I just hadn't seen a guy that dominant in a really long time. That doesn't mean he would remain that way, but there's a reason Mookie was smiling.
-
no, because if roberts doesn't f up the baez move, the series was already over imo too. At the end of the day the players decided it and the better team won.
-
Francona, Maddon, and Roberts being considered analytics guys is kind of nonsense. They definitely listen, and follow direction from analytical front offices, but Maddon, Roberts and Terry all give their guys more leash and use their feel plenty
-
Its almost like the players are the ones that matter and having the most talent is what matters. Roberts is an idiot often because he's loyal to his guys. Cash fcking plans the entire game at 2pm and doesn't deviate. I don't think Cash decision is defensible and I didn't think Roberts telling baez he was done and then not was defensible. End of the day though, the guys on the field decide it. Rays are playing tonight if that move isn't made though imo.

Have you seen Tony's LOL because if you thought Hahn's were bad, you're going to be in for a real treat when you look at TLR!

I didn't say every, I said most... and most young pitchers are into the tech and biomechanics of pitching. It has been provided to them by coaches/trainers. It is just another tool they use to help better themselves. -

I just don't by it bmags; we'll agree to disagree. I don't think he came up with "a lot of tech" either. It's not as if he invented the tech either, it was used in golf and etc. No one wants you to believe that this tech has revolutionized the game more than the guys who are selling it. Dylan Cease was paired up to those camera's all last year and last off-season. They identified what his "issue was" but we're 1+ year later and Cease still has no rise on his FB. I love tech and data - I work in the field - but sometimes the impact of tech on athletes is really overblown. Rapsado machines are a useful resource, but they don't dictate the success of a pitcher. They merely help evaluate what a pitcher is doing, but people knew Cease's fastball didn't have the life it needed even if there weren't machines telling us the spin and rise. EDIT: I don't think anything rubs me the wrong way more than someone proclaiming how hard someone works when they've never been on a team with him or in a room with him. The hardest workers in my life, typically, have been incredibly quite. They never proclaimed to the world how much harder they were working. -

Which is an entirely different argument. Also, injuries are up in baseball for SP's, not down. Driveline's focus on maximum spin and velocity could very well cause more injuries. We honestly have no idea. While tech helps to catch things like drops in arm angle and velocity - allowing a team to react and help keep a pitcher healthy - it's very possible that the training regimens and etc are having an impact on SP health.
