Wild Card playoff thread Sox at A's Game 2- First Pitch at 2 PM CT
Yeah, the constant defense of inexcusable mistakes at any level is baffling for Nick. Nick would be called out for this on a travel little league team.

Anderson doesn't go past second if Madrigal barely goes anywhere like he should have. Madrigal is the lead runner, he guides the trail runner there. The trail runner needs to get as close to the lead runner as possible in case the ball is dropped. Anderson was only that far off because Madrigal was a moron and not playing to tag.

Madrigal plays such dumb baseball it is maddening. He's let the lip beat him 4 times this year defensively. He didn't take 3rd on that Anderson play knowing he has to look in even if it's a straight steal - that cost them a run. He didn't take 3rd on the Moncada drive to the wall when he would score if the ball wasn't caught no matter what - that might have cost them a run. He's -3 in this game. It's exhausting. It may just be rookie year pressure, but I've said it before... he's the dumbest "high baseball IQ" player I've ever seen.

The way the rules work you can replace the pitcher after the hitter is announced though; I guess if it was to lead off an inning and you wanted to bring in a new pitcher it could matter a little, but it's not like a team is preparing for Eloy as he sits on the bench like other sports.

I think this is quite the overreaction; as I said, this has more to do with batting 5th than the player playing imo. It sucks he's playing, but the match-up in 1 game isn't some absurdity vs McCann's career numbers vs righties.

Not sure what advantage the sox get from "bluffing."

Eh I think hes close but after winning game 1 I could see them being cautious and waiting the extra day if they lost. If they win they by him 3 more days

Before the final game of the season, McCann was in an 0-16 slump (not the end of the world) but that's what happens when he had to play everyday vs righties and lefties. I think I'd rather have McCann than EE too, but my beef is more with EE hitting 5th.

Edwin batting 5th. SMH.

Garcia isn't really a better defender and he's not that much better of a base runner. Mazara should play vs the righty I think, but I can see either point.

I wouldn't change it either, for the record. Giolito is comfortable and that's more important than any 3 AB's. McCann also isn't a slouch vs lefties.

I read that Eloy wasn't ready to D today.

Are.... you.... ready!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TA goes 3-4 with a HR, 2B, 3 runs scored. Wish Eloy was DH'ing and Grandal catching but nothing we can do about that now.

White Sox playoff roster
Everyone but for Eloy. Frankly, it's comical to me that if Eloy is ready that Grandal can't catch Giolito and Eloy DH. At this point they aren't going to fuck with it, but that personal catcher BS hurts them today.

Cordero is awesome vs righties. I know Ricky has used him like an asshole this year, but Cordero has dominated RH hitters.

Ricky is not getting fired and he is winning manager of the year
Yeah, when Joe brought in Ruiz I remember everyone being enthused.

White Sox/A's-- Pre-series Discussion
yeah, nothing instills confidence in a young player like switching his position in the post season because you don't think he's capable despite excelling there all year. that's what i want from my leadership.

White Sox/A's-- Pre-series Discussion
Have you just lost your mind? Yes, Robert is going to be moved off a position that he graded in the top 4 in every defensive metric because you feel more comfortable with Engel in the "shadows." Robert is #2 in Statcast Outs above average - tied with Keimier. #4 in FG defensive metrics and #3 in DRS via BRef. In all of baseball. It's great who you trust but I'll go ahead and play the guy who is elite based on every single look.

In a regular year, the Sox are the 5th seed and in the playoffs. Citing that they're the 7th seed to discredit it is weird. They didn't sneak in as an extra team because of the rule change to add more teams, they actually got pushed back two seed slots because of the dumb new expanded rules. If the Sox were the 5th seed and won 94-95 games, people would say he was worth of manager of the year. Sox are in the playoffs with the best match-up they could have possibly asked for - two lefty SP's in round 1 in three games. Couldn't have worked out better. Kevin Cash is the MOTY.

White Sox secret geniuses; will face 2 lefty starters in the first round. Couldn't have picked their opponent better amongst the field of qualifers. Let's go!

They're 11 games over .500 after 59 games. There's nothing irrational about being positive and excited about that. Every team loses games and has bad stretches. Frank Thomas had plenty of stretches far worse than the Sox just had on his teams in the past. They're on a 95-98 win pace right now. In Big Franks entire time with the Sox, they won more than 95 games once. They are leading the AL in run differential; a Frank Thomas led team did that once before.
