He was at 65 pitches when everyone wanted him to come out of the game. The Sox very obviously wanted to see Dunning throw more than 65 pitches tonight. I would guess they were given a pitch count to hit, and if he didn't get lit he was getting there. Even at 5 innings he's throwing 90+ pitches probably as a rookie. And again, if you never pass that number then he'll never not be fatigued past that number.

I honestly couldn't believe Benetti didn't comment on it. He almost hit it out to center with one f*cking hand.

I hear you tony, but the Sox don't have weeks to build Dane Dunning's arm strength up to 90+ pitches and 5-6 innings. The season is over in like 5 weeks. They need him to be a starter now, which is why they're using him, and he's going to have to learn how to pitch through fatigue on the job and shit like this is going to happen. Managers need to see waht they're guys have. Same thing with Mize being left out there. That's a part of the maturation process. You can't just assume your guy can't get out of it becuase he looks a little tired; you need to give him a chacne to show you.

Dane Dunning is not 12 months removed from TJ. He is 16? months removed from TJ. The White Sox NEEEED to stretch out Dane Dunning if they want him to start. They cannot stretch him out in simulated games as a rookie who has never made a MLB start; it just won't work that way as well. Part of building up arm strength is throwing through fatigue.

yeah, and how do you get him used to a 3rd time thru, or see how his stuff plays a third time thru with some fatigue without trying it. People on here make decisions based on maximizing every run and win; it's just not how managers or teams manage games.

a part of PD is giving a guy a chance to get there. i know you don't think so, and you think every MLB decision is made solely about winning every single match-up and batter but it's just not true. i also think a part of PD is getting a guy out of there feeling good abotu himself too, so this was a two way street. I can see both sides of this one.

i think he for sure lost his release point and was not throwing with the same demeanor. you may be right, i just thought it had more to do with the balls at his head. either way he looked fantastic.

i'm with you btw, he clearly couldn't bounce back from that the first time and got lucky. ricky was pressing it. kid had quite the debut. he won't be happy with it but he should be.

again i don't think he's really that tired; i think the same shit is happening. Guy has taken two heaters at his head. Coop should have visited after the second one he just had.

Abreu is so much better than last year, but he does things on the baseball you don't see past pony ball.

that shit messes with your head man. i give pitchers a lot of shit, but it's hard standing 60'6 away and throwing the ball. When you get those liners at your head you can't slow your heart down if you wanted to. even standing behind l nets it's still terrifying.

See what happens when you call the curve on 3-2 Zack? Great adjustment by him as well.

8-19 GT: Tigers @ Sox
If dunning can get a curve over he's out edit: wish Collins called the curve and not a fastball

Stone has a great eye for stuff; I think it's more because his heart is racing because of the line drive at him, then that he's tiring but he's definitely lost his release point slightly. Adrenaline doesn't last 4 innings Jason.

Dane Dunning can throw the ball to any quadrant. I always liked Dunning, but this is better than anyone could expect so far.
