8/11 Sox at Detroit game thread
Moncada had COVID, showed up 4 days before the season started, and he's played 15 games in the past 15 days. He looks tired and it certainly makes sense. People that were ripping the two off days early just overlooking the grind that this is for a guy who was fatigued.

Keuchel called out his teams effort publicly to the media but never called out his teams cheating; in fact, he called out Fiers a little bit. Keuchel is the last guy who should be speaking up.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
And never forget; Preller is a crook and baseball somehow allowed him to keep his job and continue on. The guy traded injured players without disclosing proper medicals, and baseball let him keep the players he acquired for his damaged goods and keep his job.

Yeah, people grow from 16 to 21. I'm pretty sure no one that scouted him as a kid thought he was done growing when projecting his future.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
So even after people/scouts got to see Tatis play 55 games between Rk and A- ball, only MLB pipeline even thought he was a top 10 prospect in the Padres system. That "changed" man that the Padres had stolen from the Sox and been a vastly different player couldn't crack top 10 Padre lists.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
Would you stop saying this. My goodness, you act like you were on the back fields scouting Tatis. He was the same player; he hadn't played in organized professional baseball games and anyone could have signed him. You've exaggerated his growth and his status at the time of the trade. Tatis wasn't ranked on a single prospect publication until 2017 (Where he appeared in one on the bottom of a team list), and he didn't appear on Keith Law's list until 2018 - after he had a 910 OPS as an 18 year old in A ball. The White Sox traded him in 2016. You literally just make up stuff to try and make everything look worse and so obvious.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
OK Caufield. 1. He was 6'0 as a 16 year old; saying growing 3 inches is game changing is laughable. 2. This isn't basketball. Also, he grew 2 inches, not the fictitious 3 and 1/2 that you made up: "He grew two inches in his first year to 6-foot-2, got stronger, was playing in the White Sox’s instructional camp at 17, and was just a few weeks ago before making his professional debut in the Arizona Rookie League." You're practically arguing if he was 6'2 he wouldn't have been the 30th ranked prospect. It's nonsense. He hadn't played a game, and every team could have had him just months earlier for a million dollars.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
MLB doesn't market anyone; Tatis will be no different. He plays in San Diego where 90% of the country isn't even awake to see him; Mike Trout has been dealing with that his entire career, and Tatis will be no different. Manfred is a moron; he calls out the players not realizing the NBA and NFL market their players, not the other way around.

Fernando Tatis Jr. thread
I was waiting for someone to say this, but this times 100. On almost any other team in baseball, Tatis would not even be in the big leagues yet. The fact that people are calling it the worst trade in baseball is a joke for a couple reasons: 1. Tatis had not played a single game since signing as the 30th best international prospect in baseball for under 1 million dollars - nothing had changed, and every team in baseball missed on Tatis but for the Sox who then in turn swung and missed lol. 2. This guy was traded for money, so please spare all the worst trade in baseball history hyperbole.

Launch Engel?
Yeah, I think Engel's issue is he gets a ton of value from his glove and Robert plays the more valuable position in CF. Engel loses a little playing right, as he still doesn't have big power and his arm is good but not great for RF. He's still a + on the bases too, but his batted ball profile still isn't great and he has a history of falling into bad habits. I hope he has figured it out because he really is a great athlete, but he's always been kind of robotic as a hitter.

thanks for reading, man! Not sure there's a lot of adam engel fans in the wild so this probably isn't an SEO's dream article.

White Sox vs Indians 8/9 game thread Sunday Night Baseball
Good call here. This is every single 2020 Game thread. Giolito game line: 7 ip, 4 hits, 2 runs, 5 bb's, 9k's. If you read this thread, he was the worst starter on planet earth.

Launch Engel?
For anyone who wants to read the article, I posted it today on my site: Here is a the link. Thanks to Soxtalk for allowing the sharing of links: https://www.ecopolibbling.com/post/launch-engel-to-the-rescue 2018: 2020: So yesterday when I was watching the game, and saw Engel raking, I decided I wanted to take a deep dive into the changes Engel has obviously made. I completely disregarded 2019. Why? Great question! I disregarded 2019 because as you can see from the picture below, Engel implemented a large leg kick before his swing. He actually started to make some of the good changes to his hands last year, but he didn't see much benefit because of the leg kick. BUT at the end of 2019, when Engel was recalled, he had kept the changes he made to his hands from 2018, but he ditched the leg kick. This led to a 778 OPS in September of last year: What does that mean? The big change, besides the fact that Engel no longer dips his bat head parallel to the ground as he did in the 3rd still above of 2018, his hand position at contact and after is another change. While these weren't identical pitches, you'll notice Engel's bat is less parallel to the ground at contact than it was in 2018, in addition at the point of contact and after Engel's hands lift towards the sky, as opposed to a the flatter follow through in 2018. This has led to a big change in Engel's launch angle this year: Engel's launch angle is up 6% from last year - to 17.1% - and 3% over his career average. In addition, Engel is has a career low GB rate at 30.4% (11% below his career average). Additionally, he's pulling the ball much more frequently - 54% vs 44% in career - as he has opened his stance a bit and stopped straightening his front leg on impact as much. By eliminating the leg kick and opening his stance, Engel has found a way to make more contact in general (up 3% over last year) a, but especially in the zone (up 10% from his career average to 91%) and that has led to a dramatic decline in Engel's strike out rate which is down to 21% from a career average hovering around 30. This has led to good numbers, as Engel has maximized his skill set to generate power to the pull side. While Engel still isn't crushing the baseball (exit velocity is actually down over last year), nor is he barreling everything up (only 1 barrel this season), the changes he has made is helping him maximize his skill set. While he has had some luck, his xBA is 285, his xSLG is .463 and his wxOBA is .343 which means even if things regress to his contact profile, he's still a better than league average hitter with elite defense. Publishing the full post/version of this on my Blog tomorrow likely if anyone does care to read it.

Basabe traded to SF for cash considerations
The Sox are coming up against a 40 man crunch at the end of this season; players like Basebe weren't going to get a chance to show themselves this year, so it was going to be difficult to hold him next year.

and drew Anderson is on the team and needs to pitch. You understand the same relievers can't throw everyday right? Guys are getting hurt and all you dolts want the manager to use the same guys everyday. So much ignorance.

I'm sorry i understand the game and don't blame managers for relievers who are on the roster giving up home runs.

Lol you're UPSET because Rick Renteria didn't replace Drew Anderson with Ross Detwiler.

8.8.20 GT | Clevelanders @ White Sox | 1:10PM CT
I forgot why i stopped reading game threads often. These are just a train wreck. The negativity and the complete nonsense is just mind boggling. People b****ing about the 2nd reliever put into a bullpen game during a stretch of 16 in 16 or whatever it is. Enjoy your weekend. Go sox.
-
8.8.20 GT | Clevelanders @ White Sox | 1:10PM CT
Anderson is bad. He's also on the roster. And the Sox can't pitch the same guys every single day. There's nothing confusing about this.
-
8.8.20 GT | Clevelanders @ White Sox | 1:10PM CT
Its a bullpen game... during a stretch where the team is playing like 16 games in 16 days, and they lost their best reliever to injury. I honestly have no idea what any of you think the manager should do. Drew Anderson is on the team. The bullpen is taxed and still has to pitch. Guys have to play. Stop blaming the manager for not treating the 3rd and 4th inning of a bhllpen game like its game 7 of a world series.
