The Jake Peter and the Josh Phegly outrage have been, by far, my two favorite White Sox fan overreaction of the past couple decades

The weirdest tweet of the day and of this entire negotiating process for me was "Sox reportedly willing to go to 110" if pressed. What the heck kind of leak is that? Why would the Sox want Wheeler to know they'd go higher lol if they have the highest offer? Only reason it makes any sense - assuming it's not nonsense which is very possible - is that the Sox are trying to chase off other bids? Maybe? That's the only way I see that making any sense.

I think he was a better salesman and hype man than self scouter - it was easy to assume all your prospects were shit when you were the White Sox back then. Either way, it worked for him.

Couple things on this: 1. Almost all players are a good bit better at home than on the road - I have this analysis somewhere, and I'll try to find it because I don't want to cite wrong numbers. 2. Coors players are actually at a much greater disadvantage on the road than all other hitters/players. Here's a good piece on this: https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/13227274/does-coors-field-make-rockies-hitters-worse-road-mlb%E2%80%9D 3. Coors hitters should receive a bump in their road production similarly to the decrease they get from their home production. Great hitters who have left Coors have went on to be great hitters elsewhere despite their home/road splits. The Coors effect is greatly exaggerated. If you're great there, you'll be great elsewhere.

Yeah, but can they give Wheeler 100 million if he wants to sign before the Winter Meetings and still have the possibility of signing Cole? I don't think so. I think the timing makes it difficult for them to be in on both. Cole won't sign early, so if that's your main target you just have to wait it out and hope.

I imagine the Sox may be getting a bit frustrated as, what appears to be, their offer is being used as leverage to drive bidding up in the media for about two weeks now. This is one risk you take by giving your offer up front. That said, I think it's good news for the Sox... again, because Wheeler has made his desired deadline known and it doesn't appear that anyone has leapfrogged the offer yet, and their offer may have actually chased away some formal offers from other clubs as he exceeded their budget.
