  1. I mean, the guy offered the most money. That's all you can do. For ONCE the White Sox implied they would not be outbid on a player and they actually weren't. Despite missing out, that really is a step in the right direction and a positive takeaway from this. It leads to more optimism.
  2. I mean, the guy likes the NL, he's familiar with the division and it's close to his family. The union wants guys taking the biggest offer, but I don't think this was an anti-White Sox thing. If the Reds offered 118 and the Sox 120 I doubt he picks the Reds but who knows.
  3. Honestly feel bad for Rick kind of. Guy sees these rumors circulating about their offer of 5/110 not being good enough, panics and probably begged Jerry for 10 million more. "IT'LL GET IT DONE AND WE'LL REDEEM OURSELVES JERRY! FANS WILL REJOICE." Jerry, for the first time in Rick's life says "you know what Rick, sure, let's do it. They want 120? Give them 120." Rick leaves the room giddy calls the agent and tells him. They realize it's the high bid. News breaks Phillies sign him for less. Rick cries; Jerry laughs; Kenny shits himself in anger.
  4. Emotional? I thought it sucked when I thought they got outbid; now I'm fine with it and it's just frustrating. As more information comes in, sometimes people might change their mind.
  5. Rosenthal isn't a mouthpiece for the Sox. Rosenthal wouldn't care about deferred money or anything not guaranteed.
  6. Yeah, Wheeler is a moron and if it was 5-10 million the union will not be thrilled.
  7. If that was ANYONE but Rosenthal I would say BS. Since it's Kenny, it's safe to say it's a fact.
  8. Huh? Impossible to blame the front office if they offered the most money. This has to be very demoralizing to Hahn and Co.
  9. It's a 1 1/2 hour flight from Chicago to Baltimore/DC/NY lol. His wife would rather live in Philly than Chicago? Weird stuff.
  10. Literally the only thing that could salvage this particular failure is signing Ryu for about 65-75 million. I'd argue those contracts/players are equally valuable to the Sox but I won't hold my breath.
  11. Sure, but eventually you're going to have to maybe pay someone slightly more than you value him at; not a significant amount more, but more. Otherwise they're just going to have all this money and never actually spend it properly.
  12. White Sox saw the projected Salary at FG's for Wheeler and thought... oh boy, we're going to show them! Watch us blow that out of the water... lol
  13. Scott Merkin‏Verified account @scottmerkin FollowFollow @scottmerkin More Scott Merkin Retweeted Marc Carig White Sox were in strong pursuit. Wheeler stays in the NL East. Scott Merkin added, Marc CarigVerified account @MarcCarig The Phillies have reached an agreement with Zack Wheeler, sources tell @TheAthletic. The ex-Met stays in the NL East, and close to New Jersey, where Wheeler’s wife is from. 11:37 AM - 4 Dec 2019 Shut up Scott
  14. The issue is that if they valued him at 22 million a year, then 24 is just the cost of doing business in FA. This is too close to excuse; unless they matched and Wheeler just wanted to stay in the NL and out east, there's no excusing it. I do admit that it's possible that was what Wheeler chose.
  15. No, I think they could still have a great off-season, I just worry that if this was really "their main target and guy" that a 10 million dollar difference over 5 years is what cost him that it's really detrimental to the future of this team. It's the fact that it was such a small amount of money that cost them that makes it much worse.
  16. Sox seemed to ceiling themselves at 5 years 110 million. Stone looks like such a dope as always too; says it's not about the AAV it's about the years. Well Stoney, he signed for 5 years and it was about the AAV. Nice call though big guy.
  17. Yes, that's just fanbases though in general; the world doesn't revolve around pushing the Sox offer up higher. Yeah, waiting to see the details here, but it's much more embarrassing than Machado IMO. It's not as rage inducing but it's more embarrassing.
  18. You could offer more money. It's embarrassing Jack. It didn't get to 6 years. It's not at 120 million it doesn't look like. Sox swing and whiff in embarrassing fashion again.
  19. Yeah, say what you want about what he's really worth the Sox allowed the sentiment to be that they were in hot and heavy pursuit. Rule of thumb, if there's smoke there will never ever be fire for the White Sox.
