  1. Yeah, I'm furious. That's why I am following you thread to thread quoting your posts solely for the purpose of attacking you. Oh wait... Pal, the day I get mad over an internet discussion will be the day I call it quits.
  2. Sox should sign Springer and Betts next off-season. DISCUSS!
  3. Yes, it's always good to have in depth discussions about things that will never happen. Sox should sign: Rendon, Stras, Cole, and trade for Mookie. Discuss!
  4. Try posting to the post and not the poster, bud. Give it a go, and maybe you won't embarrass yourself calling someone an idiot and telling them to check their math when you apparently can't read. If our opinions turning out wrong meant we should stop posting them, you would have been knocked out of conversations eons ago. Nothing funnier than when a guy attacks someone, is 100% wrong and instead of apologizing and moving on they double down and continue to ridicule said poster. Internet is a great place.
  5. So the Phillies were willing to go into the luxury tax to sign Rendon, but they settled for Wheeler instead of Cole/Strasberg? Yeah, I'll go ahead and call BS on this one.
  6. Cool; this isn't basketball. Mike Trout has made one post-season appearance in his career.
  7. So you are trading pieces of the future to be more competitive next year? That is exactly what the White Sox used to do, and it's exactly what got them in this predicament in the first place... and it's the exact thing you've been incredible critical of (as have most all fans). Minds aren't changing; pointless to continue going back and forth. Have a nice weekend.
  8. So they're not all-in if they trade for Betts? Then what the heck are they doing?
  9. Rodon is getting 15 starts when at best he returns in July? At most, the Sox get 10 starts from Rodon. The guy had Tommy John 7 months ago for god sakes. Kopech isn't in the big league longer than half the season as far as Hahn has implied.
  10. Cease already made 14 starts this year; unless you just want to pretend those didn't happen, so him making 28 starts only nets you 14 more than last year. Maybe sort out your math and facts before being a snarky douchebag.
  11. Lopez hasn't missed a start in 3 years. Carlos Rodon has never had a single healthy season. Health does matter. Going into a season all-in relying on Carlos Rodon might as well be team suicide.
  12. I think one of those two is going to get a hell of a lot less than he thinks; White Sox would be smart to wait that market out. If the rate drops low enough, pounce and take it home - even if neither are perfect players.
  13. 109 starts = 3 full-time starters. Let's say Cease gets to 28 starts this year from 14 last - now they need to find 95 starts. Kopech makes 15 (1/2 a season), now they need 80 starts. That's, again, nearly 3 full time starters and they've signed zero. They can't afford to go into a year with a Drew Smyly as their 5th starter - or Alex Wood - when they are "all in" after trading for Betts.
  14. Mike Trout is possibly the best player of All-Time; he's made the playoffs once in his career. I want to win; I don't want to be happy that I get to watch Betts play for a year. I have MLB.tv, I can watch him if I want.
  15. Sorry, it was 5.19 to 5.38. That really changes the point I was making.
  16. Yeah, they could trade him and be OK if they had something to replace him. Even with rostering Lopez last year, the team gave 76 starts to: Omar Despaigne, Carson Fulmer, Ivan Nova, Hector Santiago, Dylan Covey, Ross Detweiler, and Manny Banuelos. They already need to replace those 76 starts. If you move Lopez for Betts, now the Sox need to replace 109 starts! from last year, and they haven't signed a single pitcher yet. LOL
  17. Rodon had a worse ERA than Lopez last year and a worse FIP than Lopez in 2018. So Lopez is expendable and not a part of the future, but Rodon - coming off multiple injuries - should be depended on to impact the roster and help them after the All-Star Break in a season in which they now would have to contend because they only have Betts for one year. No, it's not the right time to acquire him because they can literally sign him next year if they want him and not give up pieces of their future. What is difficult to understand about this? If 2020 was a prime-contention year, fine but it's simply not and this would be an idiotic and rushed move for a purpose many do not understand.
  18. Awesome. Let's cherry pick an ERA stat from one year. In 2017 the Astros won the World Series. Mike Fiers had a 5.43 FIP and a 5.22 ERA. in 2018 the Red Sox gave 24 starts and 170 innings (5th starter spot) to pitchers that combined for a 5.2 ERA and 5.3 FIP. They won a World Series and had a historically good season. If you think Lopez would be holding this team back and detrimental to them as a 2-3 WAR 5th starter, you are mistaken. This is all assuming Lopez gets no better, despite entering his age 26 season.
  19. What is a walking hot take about finding it absurd to start Dylan Covey for a month after you went all-in trading for Mookie Betts? None of this scenario makes any sense. None of the OF prospects are netting you an impact starter. We just went through a rebuild, finally, and now that the end is near Sox fans want to go back to the old way of doing business; trying to win year to year with patch-work rosters driven by FA. No thanks. I'll stick to the plan and I won't trade assets for a 1 year rental in a season that isn't in their peak competitive window. And yes, I don't like moving Yoan Moncada to RF. What a crazy thought there as well.
  20. So we're going into the season relying on Carlos Rodon? Hard pass. Lopez, at worst, is a 5th starter on a competitive team who is cost controlled. He absolutely is a part of the long term picture, even if he only gets marginally better.
  21. Again, if you're not all-in next year then trading for Betts is an outlandish proposition.
  22. If that was the plan, why would you give up anything for him just to get him 1 year earlier when they're not expected to be a top contender? Just sign him next year and keep the pieces for the future. This is the part of the discussion that has never made sense to me. Trading for him does not improve your chances of signing him, and if the main argument for obtaining him assumes they resign him then they might as well just wait to sign him next year. Odds are the Sox won't sign Betts - obviously - so trading for 1 year in a year where they're not a bonafide contender is just a waste.
  23. Huh? So the Sox would trade for a guy who only impacts next year, and then you'd be happy that the Sox started Dylan Covey for a month + in a year they'd have to contend because they traded for Mookie for one year. Those two things don't make a lot of sense.
  24. Yeah, this wouldn't kill them as it wouldn't create another hole for the team; it would take a little depth away from a position that you need it, but you have to sacrifice something.
