  1. Scott Boras is a bad agent? He had this happen to him recently.
  2. Name. One. Example. Jesus christ. Baseball doesnt have a cap. It will never be like basketball because teams will offer opt outs, extra years, higher guarantees. If they put a max contract cap in baseball, then yes jack other things will matter. Until then, they simply wont.
  3. 95% of free agents take the biggest offer. I don't know what to tell you. My claim is based on actual outcomes. Your claim is based on anecdotal BS and your "opinion." 5 million dollars is a lot of money, just so you know and most players would take the extra money assuming a non-hometown angle. The only time you really see players take less is when resigning with their own team.
  4. Jack, you said no one wants to play here and the Sox have to overpay because if they offer the same they dont get the player. We have said they simply have to offer the most money as does every other team who wants a free agent. I asked you to name a single example to support your claim. You called me a optimistic unicorn for calling bullshit on your claim. Its laughable that you cant justify it with facts and evidence but had the audacity to call me out for being blind and bias.
  5. Based on what? As I said, please name one example of the White Sox reportedly offering more money - or even the same amount - to a player and said player chose to play somewhere else. You want to continue to cite some absurd "no players want to play for the Sox" narrative, then give me an example Jack. Facts and outcomes matter. I gave you an example of the opposite.
  6. I think their internal budget is 350 million. See, I can make random things up, state them as facts and be outlandishly optimistic too!
  7. Name one time the White Sox have offered more money or the same as another team and came up short. The White Sox reportedly didnt offer more than st Louis for Robert yet he's here. Now, you're turn.
  8. So you somehow go from... The sox dont get top players because they dont offer the most money... to The Sox need to overpay to sign anyone because no one wants to play for the organization. Most of us are saying the most money wins in free agency. You agreed with Jack who is saying the Sox need to do even more than your standard team because players have some weird anti-Sox belief.
  9. Players set the market. Players that take less to play somewhere do exist but it's a very small percentage. The union frowns upon this. The sport isnt capped. The only way for salaries to grow is for the union participants to maximize their returns.
  10. Not sure if you're willingly ignoring the point, or what... but if they don't offer the most money they wont get the player as is the case with pretty much every other team in the league.
  11. It's not because they play in Chicago.
  12. Jack, I'm not sure what you're not grasping but market size is about potential eye balls. That's what advertisers sell too, and those advertisers pay based on market share - not your perceived white Sox fan total. Therefore, a major athlete signing in Chicago draws a lot of eyeballs and attention. Advertisers pay more in Chicago than Detroit and Minneapolis.
  13. I dont know because I dont know Manny Machado. You apparently do, though. He seemed to have a NY preference (one market that is BIGGER than Chicago) but who knows?
  14. Yes, because Lucas Gioltio, Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada were ruined by the White Sox organization.
  15. Hes not right and it's a laughable claim. No one is comparing them to those teams but for you. I love when internet people decide the preferences of athletes they do not know. Agents like bigger markets more than small markets. The sox play in a top 4 market. That means more dollars. Hence why players and agents certainly dont rank Chicago lowly.
  16. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz Pure nonsense. The Bulls struggle because they play basketball in winter and chicago is a tough place in winter. That paired with the taxes, and players would have to take less money to play here than say Florida; it becomes a no brainer. If the Bulls could offer more money than others they'd sign players.
  17. Enough of this two team market nonsense. Jaysus. When are people going to learn that Machado wasn't underpaid at all and it didn't matter who was involved? The Dodgers lost Greinke to the Diamondbacks. Red Sox may be losing Mookie (although I'm skeptical). Do you know why people were optimistic about the Sox and Machado? Because they thought the Sox would offer the most money; had nothing to do with team A or B not being involved.
  18. Apparently Jack thinks players would rather play in places like St Pete and KC than Chicago. This isn't basketball. Players like whoever pay them the most; nothing more, nothing less. Manny didn't like the west coast until the west coast offered him the most money. That's how it works.
  19. I do find it ironic that the national media was optimistic about the Sox FA prowess last off season and they whiffed... now it feels like the national media think the sox will be active but they wont attach the sox as the favorites for any of the top 8 or so FAs. I think that's actually a good thing because this team just doesn't play the favorite or market setter well. They're better off negotiating in the dark and achieving the unexpected.
  20. In what world is Florida a better place to live in the summer than Chicago? My goodness.
  21. I thought there was little doubt they'd extend him a QO; I was with you there. It made sense; control and suppress his market, limit risk and liability, and also pay him close to market rate - make him prove it one more year before investing any longevity into him.
  22. When your property is covered in holes, you typically don't want to dig another one while attempting to fill in the others.
  23. 1. There are many ways to value a player; WAR is a nice tool, but certainly not the only defining analysis done on players. 2. 1st baseman and DH's have been over penalized imo; they are penalized too much for their position/defense. Offense still reigns in baseball, despite the fact that base running and defense do matter. In general, it's pretty obvious to me that WAR undervalues Abreu's contributions to a certain degree. 3. Not a single person in the game thinks the Sox extending the QO to Abreu was an overpay or bad move. 4. Fangraphs doesn't set the value rates for FA's.
  24. He's not great there no doubt, and while Tim is better and has a higher defensive ceiling for sure it wouldn't be all that different than a Twins fan saying the Sox should move Anderson off short for Didi.
  25. At what position? Twins had a pretty good 25 year old SS.
