The way this thing went down was embarrassing on every level, but if he would have signed with the yankees in like December, nobody would care nearly as much as they do. I wanted him, and I wanted him bad, but we have to acknowledge the fact signing either guy had just as good a chance at scuttling the whole rebuild as it did getting it off the ground.
