  1. The only conclusion I can come to is they must really think Oscar Colas is a Thing. I remain unconvinced.
  2. Throw out 2020 and they're mostly fine. This just sucks and I hate him.
  3. It's hard to understate how much I fucking hate this dude.
  4. Yeah, I got nothing on this one
  5. I would like to go on record that I hate the idea of giving Bauer or Springer enormous contracts. In my mind they already missed the opportunities to add huge contracts where it made sense. Machado was a fuck up. Wheeler was a fuck up. Bigger fuck up still was not targeting haper instead. These two though? Meh.
  6. It’s incredibly unlikely that you would be comfortable going into 2021 with Dane Dunning as your 3rd starter. hes thrown like 80 innings over two years and probably won’t get past like 140 this year. He’s probably going to be a solid piece at some point, but they don’t have time to wait around and find out and there’s 10 other guys who could be just as good
  7. It’s more than likely they’d be looking for an upgrade from dunning anyway.
  8. 6 years of control means almost nothing when a: there is zero track record of success b: at least two of those years will be spent ramping up durability.
  9. Building a team you can project out to 95 regular season wins is almost literally all you can do and hope for the best in the playoffs. The Dodgers odds of winning that World Series against a team with a payroll half that of the White Sox was still only a little better than a coin flip.
  10. People are burned by 2015, which is fair, but fail to consider the list of good major league players in this core is literally already twice as long as the one they had then, and likely to got a fair bit longer.
  11. I really think this is all they NEED to do. Sure I’d love a big a sexy name, but I truly believe at this point all they need are competent major leaguers that prevent you from relying on, well..... Dane Dunning.
  12. We can quibble all we want about whether Lance Lynn is proper value for dunning. ( I tend to think it’s pretty fair, anything more, your probably using him as a sweetener for a more attractive trade partner) but now was the time to move dunning.
  13. My point is Dunning is likely at best going to be like a 1.5 to 2.5 win player for 2 or 3 years. Maybe he gets better. Maybe he doesn’t. Point is Sox believe there are better chances in their system to be better than that and want value now because they don’t have time to wait around for everyone. Also consider, that by the time he is pushing 180 innings constintently, if he gets there at all, he will also be pushing 30
  14. Let’s say Dane dunning puts up 10 WAR in his 6 years, but they majority of it comes in year 4 and 5. Dane Dunning would also not have figured into the White Sox equation.
  15. I will absolutely take 1 year of 4 WAR over 10 spread over 6.
  16. Guys 2020 was a small sample where teams played freakishly unbalanced schedules, against an all time high number of debutees. Throw 2020 out.
  17. You could probably find infinite cases of guys being half as good as someone much better than them over a 60 game stretch.
  18. Gotta say, I take umbrage with team control so often being brought up regarding an almost complete unknown.
  19. I’m fairly confident 2 of Kopech, Cease, Crochet, Kelley, Dalquist, Thompson, Steiver etc will be about as good as Dunning, one of those guys likely ending up significantly better. Which is why I’m not sweating losing dunning.
  20. People are concerned, too much in my opinion, about 22, 23, 24 etc. which is fair.
  21. Yeah, I just think huge swings like Moncada and Abreu should be taken with a grain of salt. And newcomers like Dunning were mostly just noise just strictly from a projection standpoint. There’s probably some merit in continued trends ie Anderson, Giolito and Lopez though.
  22. This is true, but I think we’d all be better served throwing out 2020 analytically on some level for just about everyone.
  23. It’s being severely undersold how fuckin old dunning is.
  24. I’d marginally prefer Brantley, but that’s a damn good team.
