If the choice is Covey or Fulmer, I’d still keep Fulmer. Covey is two years older and has 150 more innings pitched of bad than Fulmer.

I thought it was that Keuchel had to pitch 160+ innings in each of the second and third years of the contract for the fourth year option to vest? ? If that was the case, it would be reasonable to think Keuchel could get the fourth year to vest unless the Sox manipulated his starts/innings. I don’t think that was being negative. Obviously, this is a much better deal than what was originally being reported.

Rutherford wouldn’t be a top 10 prospect on many teams and he is quickly falling out of that range with the Sox if he can’t even maintain a .750 OPS in the minors. He is still living off of his high draft pick status without any actual production.

Kevin White, Adam Shaheen, Mitch Trubisky... Pace would’ve wasted the draft pick anyways. How this guy is still employed is amazing.

$3 million isn’t exactly expensive for a reliever these days.

Agreed but OBP won’t be the only reason he eventually leads off. Renteria is old school and thinks that speedy guys should lead off regardless of their OBP.

Speedy little fast guy who makes contact? Yes. Once he gets situated toward the bottom of the lineup, Renteria will likely fall in love and move him to leadoff.

It’s amazing how guys like Heyman, Morosi, etc. have input from sources on moves that teams are making but Steve Stone would not.

Why is he a non-entity to any fans younger than 35? Is he out of touch with younger fans because he’s older? If that’s the case, the majority of announcers are in the same boat as Stone. Stone tweets about the Sox and even replies to fans questions. He appears to be staying in touch to me. Besides, Benetti couldn’t carry Stone’s jockstrap.

Don’t worry. No team would give up 6 years of a top catching prospect for a reliever when there are plenty to sign for chump change.

I think it likely has more to do with the Marlins and their offer to Puig. They are cheap. It was probably a lowball offer.

Not a bad deal. That’s probably around what Mazara will earn if he is here for two seasons via arbitration.

Puig might be running out of options. The Marlins just signed Corey Dickerson to a 2-year deal. It will be interesting to see how much money Dickerson received.
