Try to stick to facts. Are you referring to $25M AAV that was never spent by the Sox? Not spending money doesn’t fit your narrative either but you are trying to use it to.

See Southsideirish71’s post above. Thinking that your contract offer that is $50 million short in guaranteed money is competitive enough compared to your competition for that player is either moronic or a lie.

The franchise history contract was a joke to begin with. It’s time to play with the big boys. Has being a Sox fan under this ownership and management lowered your expectations so much as to think that $73 million is a huge sum of money in the MLB these days? It’s not.

My narrative? It’s a fact that the money was never spent. They didn’t sign Machado or Wheeler. Did you ever think a team would want to appear like they are going after the big fish to appease their fan base? Being short $50 million in guaranteed money for a player is a far cry from signing said player.

Once again, I don’t care about players and contracts that never came to fruition and you shouldn’t either. $73 million is still the record contract for the Sox.

Just like last year with Machado, “almost” signing a player to a big contract doesn’t count for anything. The fact is that the biggest contract they have handed out is $73 million which is nothing to be all that impressed by.

I’ll believe it when I see it considering who their agent is.

This signing is great news regardless. Boras actually stuck to his comments about things moving fast. We won’t be waiting all winter to see where these free agents go.
