  1. Spend the money on pitching. Yermin Mercedes is a very satisfactory player to plug into the DH slot until Vaughn is ready. I would be very interested to find out if we have something in Yermin.
  2. I was thinking the same thing. Future looking bright.
  3. Starting to look like lots of insulation will be available as rosters are filling up nearing ST.
  4. I am done with reclamation projects. Spend the money on pitching.
  5. I've stated the same sentiment more than once. Not feeling like that is very likely anymore, however. Bauer or Tanaka would help this team in a big way. Still hoping to be happily surprised every time I come to this site.
  6. I am putting an inordinate amount of faith in Katz being a miracle worker. The FO has grown tired of having seemingly talented prospects like Cease & Lopez go nowhere. I think it's probable someone like Wainwright will be signed but I am disappointed we don't aim a bit higher. I try to remember it ain't over until the fat lady sings.
  7. I have to say...the pickings are getting mighty slim.
  8. He's a beast! One of our most important guys to stay healthy.
  9. Why is it that when a rumor breaks that a player is signing for some other team...that rumor is confirmed with the player signing within that day? When it's a WS rumor it goes on for months and dies a slow and painful death.
  10. I have only used the like and/or love emoji. The laughing emoji never occurred to me as anything other than ...you made me laugh. I have to admit that your middle finger emoji has real possibilities, however.
  11. That ain't going to happen IMO.
  12. In my wild mind, I have been thinking...what if Bauer has a best offer of 5 years at 25 million per year. RH comes along and offers 2 years at 30 million. Bauer seems the type to bet on himself and JR is satisfied to avoid long-term risk. Not likely perhaps but not impossible.
  13. And he squashed those hopes and dreams with conviction.
  14. Doesn't TL want Bauer?
  15. Agreed. We will improve at 3rd, 2nd, DH, LF, CF, RF, BP, and SP due to player development and new guys. Slight regression is expected at 1st and catcher. SS will be about the same. Anything short of 100+ would be disappointing to me. The regression in our division just makes the whole thing kind of easy.? In spite of the current TL attitudes being frequently expressed...I think some of the lineup and in-game decisions will also add a few W's to the good guys as well.
  16. JR has been very willing to spend money when we are competitive. Many of those spend money moves have blown up like Dunn, EE, LaRoche, Danks, etc. He put big money on the table for some of our success stories like Abreu, Robert, and all the early extensions. He has stayed away from the stupid 10 years at 30 million per year stuff. I don't blame him for not wanting to have all his eggs in one basket. It is just not prudent IMO. Only pitchers with long term deals scare him off and we probably have Danks to thank for that. I am hopeful that RH can find a creative way to attract Bauer in a manner acceptable to JR making an exception. He sure would fit this team to a tee.
  17. I don't want to watch that act again. EE, Dunn, LaRoche, Dye, and Konerko are enough experiences to teach me that lesson. When these sluggers go downhill they go fast. I would rather watch Vaughn struggle a bit while improving over time. I prefer using Yermin until Vaughn is ready. Spend the money on starting pitching.
  18. Need to settle the DH and catcher issues but I think this is the correct take on where we are today.
  19. We let Mark Buehrle walk so I guess it can happen.
  20. The subject being discussed as usual is JR's cheapness. This organization has never been run by big money ownership. Which one of the owners I mentioned do you feel was the big spender. Remember...this is about spending money... not the most fun. We all would agree that Veeck was the most fun. Most of the WS owners have run the club on a shoestring. JR has run the club like a business and that hasn't been all bad. JR has done many aggravating things like his early TV moves but all in all he has had his moments IMO.
  21. I've had 6 owners (Grace Comiskey, Dorothy Comiskey, Bill Veeck, John Allyn, Arthur Allyn, and Reinsdorf) since being a fan. Hoping to see number 7 in the not too distant future. What's really sad...JR is the best of the bunch.
  22. One of these days JR is going to surprise all of us in order to repay us for our patience.
  23. Sounds like they must be doing something right if they win while not getting into overpaying. If you trust your talent evaluators they can help you find affordable talent while not overspending on the new flavor of the hour.
  24. Can there be a hometown bias like in calling a batted ball a hit instead of an error?
  25. I think I saw that play.?
