Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
The fact is, your 170 M would go a long way further in most cities with teams. I wasn't trying to make the point that no one likes New York. Believe it or not, the standard of living on your combined incomes would be much higher in many places around the country. Housing, groceries, taxes, gas etc, all count in the equation just like your "cultural capital" beliefs.

White Sox win draft lottery, will pick #1 in 2026
He just might succeed in spite of JR. The future looks a lot brighter after yesterday.

Chicago White Sox's Offseason FA Signings Trades Megathread
Just because players make lots of money...doesn't mean they all crave $50 hamburgers and high taxes. Many posters think Chicago is not an attractive place for free agents, yet many can't imagine a better place to live and play.

The jury is still out on Getz. He has had some misses, but Shane Smith, Vasil, the Crochett trade, the addition of Fuller and Bannister to the front office, and the hiring of Venible are all positive in my view. Jerry hasn't given him free rain to do as he pleases, would be my guess.

Would you like to live in New York? You would need to pay me a hugh premium. Higher cost of living and taxation in both NY and LA

40 Man Roster Rule 5 Decisions
Pitchers always seem to be the Rule 5 popular targets. Who can't use a bullpen arm? I think Getz has earned the right to pick the best pitcher to call on. The selection of Smith can't be argued with. Pintar is my dark horse selection. We need outfielders, and a 5th outfielder isn't that big of a gamble. Has speed & defense, which I always love.

New York and LA do not equal "attractive standards/conditions of living."

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
Seems obvious.

Take Jerry with him.

I don't know about the vampire stuff, but it would be very WS to get the #4 pick.

They believe that people who don't pay attention are more important than those who do. Got it.

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
He might be the quickest way to respectability if our payrolls for the next three years are under $100 million.

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
Lost on me what that "dirty work" entails. Union contracts and stadium negotiations would probably have more credibility with Ishiba speaking. Who wants to negotiate with someone who won't be living with the consequences?

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
Jerry said he was fast-tracking the path back to respectability. I like most of how Getz has approached the rebuild. Now it's time to give up the resources needed to compete. Get some relief pitching to win those close games in the late innings. We would be over .500 by adding 4 above-average pitchers. One starter and 3 relievers. Once Montgomery and Teel arrived, they were watchable. Between B. Montgomery and our minor league pitchers, we are not that far away.

We all know that...what's your point?

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
I'm not mad. I'm disgusted that we don't hear that Ishiba is running the show and what his plans are. There is no reason not to shoot straight with the fans. If Ishiba continues to let JR front the team...he sure isn't very good at PR.

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
Agreed! That's my point.

Ishbia taking control by 2029?
Jerry would not need to sell any shares to give up the managing partner title. Therefore, no estate issue was solved by this arrangement. The fans would certainly prefer knowing that Ishiba is calling the shots.
