cut the priest some slack, it is hard to remember everyone, you have those in parish and others to remember and no sooner did I get home when I realized I forgot to include the victims of the fires in California... I am sure that I remembered the troops and all victims of war today because of my son especially after being awoken to the news story on NPR. as far as your other question: No. I can truly say that my feelings for Bush have not been affected by my son in the Marines. Trsut me on that - my feelings on Bush ae utterly independant of that. It does serve a reminder to some that opposition to Bush's policies is not, as often charged, equal to lack of support for our troops. I support the troops all the way. I oppose Bush all the way. Bush does not support the troops. Last week's Detrot Free Press carried the little article that Bush and Ashcroft are getting struck down in court the judgements against Iraq given to troops who were held as POWs in Gulf War I. Some jugments were substantial for Iraqi mistreatment of our POWS. I never thought that I would live to see the day when a US president opposed civil judgments for our own troops against those tho abused and tortured them, and was in court though the Attorney General having those judgments for our troops against Iraq overturned - and further, that the media as a whole would underplay or not play that story. Remembering how it was Congress, bipartisan, who overrode Bush earlier this year on financal compensation for those in Iraq now, it would seem that anyone who supports our troops must vote against Bush and get someone in there who will support our troops with deeds, not public relations stunts while he knifes them in the back.

earlier today I meant to post a reply, thought I had, but I don't see it, it is not here so I must not have posted it, so I will try again: as the parent of an active duty Marine you have no idea how much I despise the person who said "mission accomplished" and "bring it on" and last week explained that acts of terrorism killing Iraqis and our troops was a sign of progress. My heart stops whenever I hear the news of more dead in Iraq, fearing the worst personal news that it might be my son, and grieving for those who have lost family members to these acts of violence. The death of these 15 troops particularly moved me. As today is All Saints Sunday, we included the dead in this war and especially today's 15 in our prayer/litany of remembrance. Let's see if this post gets on the board and stays on.

good for them. Our litle local college has sold out evey game since 1975 and has a streak of consecutive games of over 100,000 since then and we now seat 110,000 -112,000 for every game. The other school in the state gets 75,000 for almost all of their games. When they both play at home that is 185,000+ at two football games within 60 miles of each other. No one can match school #1 or what both schools do here. Current Divison 2 champ is from Michigan too. Football seems big in Texas since that is all they have. We have much more. In a state where we got 75,000+ for a college hockey game - and basketball is what it is - we are second to no one in sports, any sport. (And SuperSteve, you are a freshman from Illinois - wait a few years. Those funny little Michigan shirts, nothing new at all, the same things are sold in Ann Arbor except the other way around, as well as ND and OSU. You'll see ND stuff next year when you host them. Actually, the funniest and most yet horrendously obscene antiUM shirts I ever saw where in Illinois at Champaign Urbana back in 2000. And the early comments from Spartan stadium is that by and large the fans all got along well, whch I was glad to here. I don't think UM and MSU hate each other - the rivalry is intense but we play each other too often in everything to maintain hatred, just intense competition. The only school we really despise is Illinois and there there is Oh How I Hate Ohio State - back in the 70s real popular where the "Happiness is Crushed Buckeye Nuts" and "Woody is a pecker" t-shirts. Right now Michigan has the winning streak in basketball - 1- and that may change with any game but never gets much more than that and in hockey we go back and forth too many times to count, although we have more NCAA titles, I think, than MSU. But besides the CCHA, the we usually meet in the final four for that as well as the Frozen Four. For the vast majority of the state, UM vs MSU is a family affair and we reserve the hatred for others.)

not sure the Cheat is a UM fan either - of course I have no scorecard - now please guys no fighting tonight -

congrats on the first college tournament! keep us posted on how you do! I'd say more but it is late and I am tired and none too creative - but how great it must be to be a genuine college athlete - congrats again!

didn't realize you were on the wrestling team - how did you do? You could have done more than $80 I am sure but also wise to not push it I am very tired of drunks at sporting events - drunks think drunks are amusing but the same old tiresome drunk s*** is just that -same old s*** - and they all think they are so original and it is just tiresome -

I have lived long enough that I have seen so many teams that "can not lose" lose - from Michigan beating OSU in 1969 to OSU beating Miami in 2003 and everything in between - lot of games to be played in real life -
-
Presuming Michigan beats OSU and I do presume that, the only realistic choice on your list is VT or USC - who else is there, LSU - but who else? FSU looked bad in losing to Miami but who knows. Maybe they have a shot. Miami may still be in it. Just 2 years an "unbeatable" Nebraska team got stomped in November and still played in the BCS game. I wouldn't be too quick to think Oklahoma will finish undefeated. They are rolling up the scores too much and the karma may get them.

they get all violent when they lose - just another thug chapter in their long history of being jerks

as objective as I can be - UM dominated - check the stats and tiome of possession - MSU's two touchdowns came on one play of blown coverage by UM and the fumble - otherwise MSU socred only two field goals, getting stopped int eh red zone twice given that MSU won at home in 95, 99, and 01 - and maybe 93? I am not looking up stats tonight - I am very happy to come away with the win, would have been happier had we scored that last touch down and had the score at 34-13, more reflective of the game - Smith looks like a real coach, he called a very solid game. I could always count on perles, sabin, et. al. to do something stupid at least once a game. Smith does not look he is prone to stupid mistakes. MSU played its hearts out as opposed to folding as it did under Williams so that is also to Smith's credit I am surprised you missed the game - before I took the grandson home, we reviewed saying nothing trash talk to his MSU step dad and step dad's parents - working on being for UM not anti MSU - did you see Froday's free press? How childish. MSU is going to a bowl game with a far better record than anyone imagined last August, there should eb respect despite the fierce rivalry - enough trash in the world as it is.

in total transcendant changed the culture and music and everything influence: only the Beatles in the next tier: Elvis in the next tier: Nirvana I am not so sure about Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller. While at the very top of what they did, I am not sure that anything was changed (influenced) by them. Big band and pop vocalists were around at every point relevant for both of them. I would put Eminem in this category of people who were/are the zenith of their art form but were the perfection of it, not the influence that created or sustained it. RunDMC is an interesting choice. I am not sure about that, but I don't have a replacement for them either so I leave it. As to which one band moved rap into the mainstream, there are other possibilities and RumDMC also qualifies as influences within rap. A lot of other names out there are interesting but then that is like Eddie Cochran or Buddy Holly, major talents and influences but not creme de la creme of influence. I like your short list.

The union is firing a warning shot across the bow to protect its members. Oh how terrible. One expects a union to fight for its own. Maybe the rest of us need better unions.

I would offer Valentin $100 for each point in his batting average plus a signing bonus sufficient to bring that salary up to the league minimum. I'd take the $5+ million saved and use that for players.

and this is wisdom in its most pure form!

I did not look at this thread until just now. No to Weaver in every way shape and form and why would anyone think we need that losing jerk on our team?
