I hope the conversation is civil whatever happens. This is in ways more intense that Sox vs Cubs and yet different. Hard to explain to folks, especially since I spent half my life in Chicago and half in Michigan and know very well the rivalry. Maybe it is because we have this intense rivalry between the schools that is in football, hockey, basketball, but it is not so personal - the 75,000 who showed up for the Ice Bowl were rivals but yet united by the spirit of we all combined to do this - no other state can touch us for football attendance, either, just as no one could touch us for other things. Maybe in the 3 main sports we contest, we play year in and year out, and so while we get up for the games big time - I note this week car flags have been appearing, and more will as kick off dawns - we don't crest so high or fall so low on the results of any given game. We have also seen another odd things happen to know to epxect anything. I hope we crush MSU again. But as soon as last year's game was over I called my grandson and reminded him that he was to say nothing show-offy to his MSU step father, because we know what it is like to lose and we should ahve class. And I heard nothing trash talky from the MSU step father after the 2001 game. We just talked about the game. Maybe that is the difference between UM/MSU and Sox/Cubs - the rivalry without the hate. Certainly if/when MSU loses a bowl game, UM fans feel bad for a felow Big 10 team and don't rejoice as Sox fans did in the NL playoffs... Whatever happens, I hope we are civil and no trash talk. 1549 will back me up that on a Wolverines message board there is a thread that is really angry at the free press for trying to make this game into hostility rather than just a very big in-state game, along the lines of, why can't we be for UM (or MSU) without having to hate MSU (or UM). And a lot of people agree with that, which I appreciated.

1549 and SuperSteve, I want to express my thanks that you two have been having a very civil and helpful conversation on the game, with none of the trash talk. That is a role modeling of how it should be done. I may be offering no public opinion - what I think can be presumed and will not add to the sum total of the knowledge of the universe. But I might, too. Making up my mind. While the Detroit Free Press is stupidly trying to whip up trash talk betwwn the two teams' fans and where everywhere one goes these days one hears comments - even had some stuff said at physical therapy all week! - it has been very refreshing to see an intelligent, respectful conversation. Again, I thank you, more than I can express. This is what I am teaching my UM grandson with his MSU step-father: no trash talk. You guys are great! 2002 redux

I am not a fan of Colon but I thought your statement was as intelligent a thing as anyone could post on the situation.
-
just heard Elton's original the other day - and now this! good job!
-
I am of the opinion that Garland could in fact carry Colon's jockstrap. Whether he would want to is another question, but I bet he can. As sizable as the waist band on that thing would be.

I have the only congregation in western Michigan and perhaps anywhere where every member has a Sox hat and shirt, courtesy of MBNA and their sign-ups at USCF. One member always wore his Sox hat; every time I went into the AFC home where he lived, his Sox cap was on the peg by the door. He never left home without it. Today he turned 83. He also died. It was his time - I thought when I saw him Sunday we had a few more days, we were planning a special birthday Eucharist on Thursday because the hospice people were doing something today and the AFC home had tomorrow and I didn't want to over tire him, so I was planning on Thursday. But it was what it was and his suffering was very minimal. Thank you God for that. He'd watch the Sox on tv and wear his hat, too. Every Sunday I was absent from the congregation, the next time I saw him, Bob would say, "How'd the Sox do?" He knew the only thing that kept me from worship was my being at USCF. He also was a big Michigan fan. Next season and always after, I will so miss Bob saying, "How'd the Sox do?"

fsince the beginning I had to set my time zone on the controls here for 2 hours different zone than I am so it shows up on the board correct for me - I live in Eastern but my controls are set for Mountain and that works

That is a much more attractive bunch of weekends than we had in 2003 - only get Detroit twice and we get Boston and we get Seattle twice - so I am very pleased

Colon's 2003 numbers were so great we'd remove a long time estblished member of our team for a guy who won't sign with us? I have never seen what others see in Colon and I sure didn't see it in 2003.
-
I for one want Mags to stay - if we don't show loyalty we will never get it, he is a franchise player, and he can carry the team and you wait a long time to get a player like that - why trade all that away?

Dokken opening for Ronnie James Dio, February 1985 at Joe Louis Arena Still have my Last in line t-shirt, too! And once used the lyrics of "We rock" and "Last in Line" in a funeral sermon. othersie my 80s concerts were pretty much limited to Wise Fools Pub on N. Lincoln, blues bands after midnight, and midnight showings of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

for some (finally) creative language on body parts from anyone, thanks! for the idea of Robin Yount, I keep liking that idea and I agree with you. I think Yount would make a heck of a manager.
-
I thought it was more like Sharks vs Jets
-
That would be "you're" welcome. Why the hostility?
-
I don't know the name and it says post 1 so welcome to soxtalk! it also says you average 218 posts a day - so I should know your name since that would be an incredible number of daily posts that even our most avid members have never met - odd computer glitch that it posts that average for a new member! If I may make a suggestion - I myself would agree with your statements that The other lines of your post you could do without - not designed to win friends and influence people much. Just a suggestion. welcome again to soxtalk
-
that is not our (which is to say, Molto's) soxnet.net, that is Insiders version of the same and soon (I hope) that situation will be resolved - pay it no heed

and wasn't Backman bashed in here by several posters a few weeks ago for commenting that he had been interviewed - and Ozzie is doing his all out PR campaign in the media.
-
lots of people want things really really badly and will do anything, say anything for it I am less impressed than I ever was with Guiullen as manager given this. To be campaigning for the job and denigrating the experience that he is having with the Marlins right now - at this moment he should be savoring the experience for the team he is on - does not impress me. Was his mind on the job he has, or on the one he set his sights on? Ozie could also PR things when he wanted to, and he could be a huge jerk (check with CK on Ozzie's fan friendly comments) when he chooses and I just do not feel he is sincere. He is playing his cards as he chooses. If he doesn't get this jiob, I suggest to you all that he will next be saying how he always wanted to be the Braves manager.
-
He always did a job of selling himself when it suited his purposes. I'd like less of a 'ho and more of a baseball person as manager but that is just me.

This what it would be like if he managed a team....... Be good: "THIS is what I want you to do Son. Bunt when you come up" Player: "Why are you calling me Son, your younger then me?" Be good: "JUST.........BE good." Player: "What the hell are you talking about. And why do you always emphasize the first word of your sentence?" Be good: "FORGET about it.........HEY, did you meet my new assistant Beastlyordonez." Player: "No......." (shakes hands with BeastlY) Beastly: "Let me ask you something son? Do you ever notice that mexican chicks are always the first to mature. I saw some girl walking down the street and was like MOMMA CITTTTTAAAAAA. If she wouldnt of kept walking I would of made her another victim of the beast." Player: (Shakes head as so many have done before)
-
did you hear his litle speech, says the trophy was won "in large part due to the players." Oh? Who else other THAN the players won it? what a stupid thing to say
-
doesn't stealing bandwidth cost the one you steal from, which is kind of ripping them off financially too? and isn't that expensive as hell? that's the way I understand it but I may be wrong so please explain otherwise I suppose I don't get the wsi vs soxtalk thing either - they have their thing, we have ours, I don't see us as competitors - Daver works with RPS on S&R and is very helpful -
