  1. now I read the article - boss left - and typical Zimmer, pissed off and stalking out the door -
  2. i didn't read it - at work and going fast - but he had to retire someday!
  3. I wouldn't say 'scared' but gravely concerned - and perhaps partially resigned to that horror - until that moment, as you so correctly say - any team should have been able to recover, just get the batter out on an upcoming pitch - but this was the cubs - you knew the cubs would collapse like a goat at a Greek barbeque it screamed "historic flop begins now" - it was label "choke now has arrived" - it sang "instant karma's gonna get you" -

    soxheads is cool!

in some thread soxheads uses correctly an epigram from Sophocles' Oedipus Rex, he used said epigram aptly, applied very well, and of course knows the quote (let alone uses it properly) - I say wow, someone in Iowa is getting a quality education and it shows! Hail to Soxheads the Literate
  5. the world could not have survived the arrogance of a cubs-red sox world series moaning losers both of them

    yankees win

I was following Jeter in high school when he and I both lived in Kalamazoo - I don't know what the perspective is of those who only see a public personna of Derek Jeter because I feel a connection with him having followed his career for so long - as I said, since his junior year in high school - his parents are great people and so is Derek, he always comes home and gives generously of his time and finances to real needs in Kalamazoo - he is the only yankee I can stand, and in fact, I like Jeter a lot knowing something of the real person he is - I cheer for the AL team in the series always, and Jeter makes that ok for me - I certainly see that a lot of people dislike him a lot. I suppose because I am influenced by us being Kzoo and knowing the side of him not shown in those commericals, is why I have a different perspective here. Lacking that, I'd probably not be able to stand him too.

    yankees win

I concur. Why? Because we are White Sox fans and haven't won since 1917. Yet we don't b**** about 1/100000th as much as fans of these other two teams. exactly, exactly
  8. as I mentioned elsewhere I wore the Sox peach hawaiian short - very understated but official Sox gear bought at USCF at the Hall of Fame store and I do work in a law office during the week - so that was sporting as I could get - and everyone whos aw it got the point, it was great -
  9. just as well I am as tired of Boston self pity as much as I am cubs self pity

    Guillen

there is that... plus no Sox batter would ever take a walk again - did Ozzie walk four times a season? in his career? we'd have a whole team swinging at ball 4 a la Ozzie.
  11. you eman we have Sox news too????? thanks!
  12. Steve, exactly right. We live in Michigan and we get that cubs s***. That - the trash mouth of their fans - is what made it sweet and it was most fun playoff series that does not involve the Sox since, well, 1984. and I am wearing my understated Sox beige hawaiian short today to work - everyone who sees it has gotten the point -
  13. on the MLB board this was posted quoting the great Chicago writer and sad scribs fan Mike Royko: 23057.7 in reply to 23057.6 Judging from the quality of writing coming from the trolls on this board, I can only guess that they are all under twenty years old. What saddens me is the lack of respect for history and tradition that is demonstrated by these young brats. Please read your Mike Royko. As Royko sez: "Those who are true fans of the White Sox or Cubs loathe the other team. This crosstown rivalry takes precedent over city pride. So if the Sox play the Braves, I must root for the Braves. It is the only decent thing a Cubs fan can do. Sox fans, being dedicated haters, will understand. "
  14. you could see on tv the people leaving in the 9th - funny, all the cub fans in the local establishment that I watched the game at, also left in the top of the 9th - the staff kept the place open just for me so I could see the end of the game - one of the benefits of good tipping!
  15. and any Sox fan, having listened to all the taunts when our championship hopes disappeared in the matter of a week, had to think, when the world was perched on the edge of the abyss, cubs up 3-1 over Marlins, not only "will I have to listen to more s*** the rest of my life" but also "hmmmm, wouldn't it be fun if they lost the next 3." and it was fun! edit note: this is my post 6969, commemorating the year I graduated high school (hell yes I am that old) and also the year I made a lot of money on the bet, "the mets will win before the cubs do" and had to listen to trash all summer long but had a very happy September and even better October, as good as it gets when we are not in it
  16. you live in Florida (new Florida state motto: Now no longer the dumbest state in the Union, thank You California) so you are excused. But the Sox have been major league since 1901, the Marlins for 11 years, and damned if I want them to have as many world series wins as we do even the yankees - wtf - they might be the AL champ - gottta go with my league - red sox fans are no bargain so whatever happens, happens hell, I even cheered for OSU against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl - I always go with my league, whatever it is - sometimes it is tough, but be true to your school and all that - always enjoy your posts - hope all is well!
  17. you ever live in Chicago? grow up there and listen to trash about the Sox all your life? it is not pleasant to be around obnoxious scrubs fans anytime, let alonewhen they make the playoffs and we don't - and all the smack that has been said the last three weeks - the way this came down means that for those who live in Chicago, for me when I go back to Chicago, order has been restored - we have the right to celebrate that - if I had my preferance we'd be beating the marlins in the world series but since we got stuck with a horrible situation, we can be damn happy how it worked out
  18. a Sox manager with bling bling - boggles the mind
  19. considering he is 72 and never been to ther series, not really guarenteed we hire him, we win... not very many teams have made a midseason change and won anything - I don't think they expected much of anything when they hired him but a caretaker - the game sure takes strange bounces
  20. his email after the giants lost to the marlins did not blame Alou - blamed the team, fate, destiny, etc, but he didn't blame Alou - I didn't think about that until your post and you know every Giants fan is glad the Marlins kept Baker out of the series -
  21. I might weep instead of wheep sure as hell I know how those scrub fans felt watching their team slip away - we've been there, done that as recently as some games against Minnesota - and those would people I grew up with and their families and people just like that crying as their dreams turned to dust - but I don't recall any support from them in 2000 nor any sympathy, but I do recall a lot of mocking comments when we lost 3 in a row - if their damn fans weren't so obnoxious it wouldn't mean so much to us that they lose - and yeah if it was us who blew this way, we'd be crying and they would be laughing at us - I am so sick of the media sychophants who played up the cubbie thing - even in the Michigan newspapers we had stories about how "all Chicago" was behind that north side team - unofortunately the most arrogant fans in the AL will get rewarded tomorrow - take your pick who, both teams have jek fans and I will cheer for whoever wins since I am an AL fan - and another reason I want the Marlins to lose - they have been around for 11 seasons and damn them if they will have as many world series wins as we have - this past week, win marlins win - now, it is lose Marlins lose.
  22. Do you know what years he played?? I was thinking like late 80's early 90's time when i remember the deacon nickname... 1991-1995
  23. we can always remember that that the last team to beat Prior and Wood back to back was the Sox... albeit in 2002... and I agree, order has been restored in the universe and they lost in the best/worst possible way as long as they made the playoffs ... now whoever wins tomorrow, that is who I cheer for in the world series - always got to go AL, I am an AL fan and may the Al champ prevail
  24. Jas, a friend of mine is a SF fan and he was very happy when Baker left the Giants because of how, in my friend's opinion, Baker mishandled the pitching staff, especially in the playoffs now I see what he meant - and I am glad the consensus at the bar tonight where I watched the game (awash in my diet cokes) was Gonzalez is the goat of the cubs - that 8th inning error - although I took special joy in seing sam-me mishandle the ball today - was not game changing, but just fun to see! their whole tam blew it - Farnsworth was not exactly effective in relief - and when you have 3 chances to win 1 game, blow 2 leads, one in the 8th inning, in 2 games in your own ballpark, that is a team effort
