that is the single most impressive game analysis I have ever read of any game last week's scores were troubling - are MSU and Minnesota that good, or Iowa and PSU that bad? Whenever I attend a game with the kid, I miss everything but the scores since in exchange for him doing everything that I want to do at the Big House (pre and post game band shpows, etc) we don't listen to all sports on the drive home. Besides, no radio station in this state does much of a job of it anyway. But I understand from today's DFP that in those two games, as well as Wisconsin/Illinois, there were questionable calls by the officials. So hard to tell if Iowa and PSU (and Illinois) got jobbed or really derserved to lose. The Iowa game is bigger now that they lost since either they will be raging angry or they will show themselves to have been over rated. I really rather they had won against MSU because I didn't want them mad - but then again, they might be a deflated balloon now. And then Minnesota - kind of the same thing, except they will be playing for the Rose Bowl, the biggest game they have played in decades, since who else do they play than us - if they beat us the rest of their schedulke they coast - and we have a short week to prepare - fly home from Iowa and then fly back to Minnesota with a day less. If Iowa bangs us up, we could be hurting against Minnesota. So the next two are pivotal and they are a set in my mind - go 0-2 and we we lose our New Years day Bowl streak. Go 1-1 and we will have to struggle the rest of the year for the title since MSU may be more of a challenge than we thought and OSU, Purdue, and Illinois won't lie down for us. Go 2-0 and our Sugar Bowl hopes as an 11-1 team survive.

I'd add the Overnight and the All Star Game in there too

that would be right there

Which is why I voted for him too. What a remarkable man.

Mr Eye, thank you for your kind words. I was raised by a group of entenprenurial (spelling) Republicans in Chicago. My grandfather was so republican he was a precinct captian for them during the depression. Caused a scandal in the family when I went democtratic. I was an avowed enemy of the machine, worked in IVI-IPO all the time I lived in Chicago, and voted and worked for the IVI-IPO county and state (non national) slate (almost always Republican and always anti machine). Now that I live in Michigan, I am a democrat all the way. My near neighbor Hillary Rodham and I share the same experience of doing the Goldwater thing in 1964 and the Eugene McCarthy thing in 1967-1968. Those years were very pivotal at breaking a number of us away from the Republicans. The GOP today today is not the GOP of my youth. Times change and parties change, but that change has been total. In fact though both parties have lost the "big tent" approach. Where there once was roomnto disagree, it is now "for us or against us" - which is sad and why the 40% plurality of Americans refuse to identify with either party.

there were over 110,000 including the kid and me I let the kid run all over the Big House by himself for the first time ever - he is growing up and needs his time to be a wild man, especially now that he knows his way around as well as he does Navarre looked just fine. The person that I was screaming at was Braylon Edwards, as in, "catch the damn ball, Braylon." Notice later in the game that Navarre went to other receivers. If we went to our tight ends at all I do not remember. The defense was excellent. The offense was slugghish overall. Let us hope that awake before both of the next two games. The second intercept was not Navarre's fault, Braylon juggled the ball and flung it into the arms of an Indiana player. Let us hope Perry has all of his fumbles out of the way for 2003. Both seemed lack of concentration more than anything else. Carr must be angry at the offense as he took them out, thought about it, and then put them back in. I hope that was designed tio get their attention. The game was not that close. It was 31-3 until 3 minutes left or whatever. The special team miscue is a concern after the game at Eugene. I have been attending games since 1975. I was not disgusted remotely with the team's performance. It just could have been better. It is impossible to be up for all 12 regular season games. Our next two are huge games so better to be lower key now than the next two games. Noit being sky high is no excuse for the alck of concentration. We looked better in games 1-3 and the 2nd half of game 4 than we we did at any time in game 5. I suspect we (as in the coaching staff) were holding back because of the next two games - I expect a few nerw looks on offense and defense than we showed against Indiana. The Indiana band was ok. They remained for our post game show (very classy) and besides doing a few numbers of their own did their special percussion number akin to our Temptation/Hawaiian War Chant. Very fun to watch. Their band got a very nice response every time they played, from the Michigan fans.

The New Deal was the worst thing that's ever happen to this country. It created the wonderful welfare state that we live in today. Things that were never promised under the New Deal are now "expected" to be paid for, i.e. prescription drugs, college tuition, etc. It created the "Lazy American." I'll give you that it maybe was good on it's face , but it's snowballed into a huge mistake. Mr. Republican, and YAFer? , I must totally disagree with your assessment of the New Deal, totally and categoricaly I am wondering if you are poor and a true beliver or some from money who disagrees with the New deal. I ask not to fight and have conflict, but to get a fuller picture. I am white collar but working class, from working class, in two professsons (clergy and law) with a masters degree and much expeirnece in social work. Just to share my demographic picture as I ask for your. Was raised by generations of republicans. You proclaim yourself a Republican - I am a democrat, Again, not to conflict - we all speak out of our experience and I have shared mine, am wondering as to yours to further know and repect one another.

press release White Sox dismiss manager Jerry Manuel CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have relieved Jerry Manuel of his duties as the team's manager. The announcement was made this afternoon by White Sox general manager Ken Williams. "We have nothing but the highest regard and respect for Jerry Manuel, the person and the man," said Williams. "However, since reaching the playoffs in 2000 and despite high expectations, this team has not won enough baseball games. It remains our goal to reach the playoffs, and ultimately, the World Series. At this time, we have reached the conclusion that a new direction is necessary." The 2003 White Sox finished 86-76, in second place, 4.0 games behind the Minnesota Twins. Manuel, 49, ranks fourth all-time in franchise history with 500 victories (500-471). Manuel's winning percentage of .515 ranks 11th among managers in club history. The Sox captured the American League Central Division title in 2000 with a 95-67 record, and Manuel was named Manager of the Year. During his six-season tenure, the White Sox were 80-82 (2nd) in 1998, 75-86 (2nd) in 1999, 95-67 (1st) in 2000, 83-79 (3rd) in 2001, 81-81 (2nd) in 2002 and 86-76 (2nd) this season. "Jerry Manuel typifies class, character and integrity," said Williams. "He brought those attributes to the ballpark every day for six years for the White Sox regardless of the team's won-loss record at the time. We all respect that approach to the game of baseball and to life, and everyone associated with the White Sox wishes Jerry the very best going forward." Manuel was named the 36th White Sox manager on December 4, 1997, replacing Terry Bevington.

I'd have to say no to LaRussa. I was one of his biggest fans but bringing back a former manager is such a clueless guy thing, you're 22 and don't have a date for Saturday night so you call your old girl friend from high school. There is no point in going back to the past. Besides LaRussa should have won 3 world series in Oakland and only won one and hasn't exactly won one in St. Louis. Spare us from having "LaLoser" posts for the next four years. Gaston is an interesting suggestion. And I don't think in any way shape or form are we committed to hiring a minority manager. What MLB requires is that the interview process follow the procedures and I am somehow very sure we will. I only hope if KW hires the new manager that it means that KW is solid as GM despite the rumors of his demise. It makes no sense whatsoever for a manager to be hired unless the GM is going to be around. Those two people must be on the same page.

I would suppose he did

11-1 Sox bottom of the 8th I think Garland has given up only 3 hits but I could be a digit off there

cw: <clip> he is what, in 4th place for all time wins as Sox manager and one of the higher percentages of any manager we have had <clip> I agree it is time for a change, but there is no joy, just regret that it turned out this way bmr: Some of us actually care about the sox winning. whart part of the English language do you fail to understand? oh, all of it, that's right!

it is not great news and there is no joy the man brought us to one division title and has always represented us with dignity and honor it is too bad that he was not able to accomplish all he wanted to it is sad whenever someone loses the job they have worked a lifetime to have, especially as he is what, in 4th place for all time wins as Sox manager and one of the higher percentages of any manager we have had - so he has done well I agree it is time for a change, but there is no joy, just regret that it turned out this way
