if the huge tornado keeps moving in its current direction, on D Drive up from Tekonsha towards Homer to Albion, your alma mater may be no more that's ok, I was married there, I always knew it would get pay back some day back in 79 when the huge tornado hit Kalamazoo, my younger son and I stood on the parsonage porch in Albion and watched it destroy downtown Kalamazoo and then headed indoors when it pointed our way but it dies on the way to Battle Creek, never reached us oops, news alert - the tornado just suddenly veered south towards Hillsdale College - the methodists are safe but the fundies are going to get it I love living in Michigan where tornado season is just as, sometimes more, lively as baseball season!
  2. I'll be there the 6th, maybe the 7th in the usual spot, maybe the 5th but no idea where

if you are driving to Comerica, be aware that parking costs are far more expensive than at USCF. Come in off 75 and you can get within a few blocks for $25 parking. The area is very nice - Ford Field looks great - my grandson and I were running around the neighborhood last month when we went to Ford Field to see the Eminem concert. You may actually be able to park in a Comerica lot but getting out may not be the fastest thing in the world but then the crowds won't be that great. Don't be the typical Detroit sucks person - that area is coming nice, with the Fox (home of Michigan Opera theatre) right there - it is a great coming along neighborhood, and Ford Field will kick the s*** out of the remodeled Soldier Field in every way, including post game atmosphere. I haven't seen the rest of downtown Detroit in a while but I like the way the Fox/Comerica/Ford area is coming, and I like it a lot. I gave thought to seeing UM and the Sox both play on the same day as I did last year, but $$ prevents right now - also got my bill for possible playoff tickets today so something has to give. As for Marlin, that went through the coirt system and found to be a relatively minor thing by the courts so who am I to argue. The word in the atty grapevine was that it was very minor and maybe not charged at all if Marlin isn't well known, so he probably got screwed for typical stupid juvenile male behavior.

please don't tell us you misplaced your sense of humor while traveling... other board events: cubkilla wants JM named Manager of the Year HSC is now dating KW oldroman started an MB fan club
  5. no one has ever thought of you in any way as worthless, in fact the opposite - you ahve always been very kind and helpful to me, and kind of made me a sort of Iowa State fan as far as I can cheer for any Big 12 school. Now are we are getting some September wallpaper? I am so tired of July's.
  6. there are comments to be made here and I am too slow witted to think of any right now
  7. I think Ed and/or John did it on their own - knowing the team would/did back them up on what they made a broadcast issue. Effect is the same however. GUG's seats are right near the radio mic in the stands for the "crowd reaction" sounds and almost directly under their booth. GUG is the man and I certainly think what he adds to the game experience is what being a Sox fan is [supposed to be] all about.
  8. I concure. And also the idea of rating threads, for lack of a better discription, sucks. I would be willing to bet that it would just turn into popularity contests, and pissing contests. I could just see it letting open wounds fester. Not a good idea at all IMHO. like this post so much I thought I'd repeat it
  9. Ed and/or John b****ed that GUG was too loud and interferred with the radio broadcasts - GUG or HSC could clarify which one - the Sox did not silence GUG, it was Ed or John who did
  10. rate threads? doesn't sound like a good idea to me ratings on other chat lists has never led to good things
  11. the thread title says " final west coast team game of 2K3." final west coast team game? what west coast is Texas on? geographically, I select Carl Everett since I thnk his brand of science is at work here And I'll stick with Carl Ev for the western division game we play today too!
  12. 8-23-03 Sox win KC wins 1.0 back Twinkies lose 2.5 back

rest eternal grant Bobby O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon Bobby.
  14. only 30% right another 25% praise the ones they always praise and critique the ones they aren't fond of very consistently another 20% trash, bash, or otherwise criticize those who do well and praise those who are not performing another 15% attack everyone and 10% are very fair. I am in the 25% group by the way...
  15. really - Albion? The Albion? In Albion, Michigan? This Albion? This Albion College? I was the Lutheran campus pastor there for a few years and lived just east of the campus. Had some very interesting times in Albion.
  16. without doing any research I would be willing to wager a sizable sum that the penalty prescribed is in an Illinois statute enacted many, many years ago any civil suit against the Cubs is going to be in a circuit court which is a court of equity which means that the court has broac discretion to do what is fair, just, and not to repeat the word but equitable in the circumstances. any criminal prosecution will again be held in a circuit court, and that will be against individuals. The state can act against a corporation in a civil action but not a criminal action - individuals can be charged with criminal offenses, but you cannot prosecute a corporation for a criminal offense, only civil action. without looking at the Illinois statute, I would also make an educated guess that the standard for a civil judgment (not conviction, judgment) is less than for a criminal prosecution, perhaps perponderance of the evidence, or clear and convincing evidence the loss of a franchise is very much over reaching for a penalty either civil or criminal for the allegations against the Cubs, totally excessive and would get tossed by any court of appeals let alone not something that will even be considered in a court of equity. The idea of the Cubs losing their francshise over something like this is as laughable of a sports "lets make something up" thing as i have ever seen. It is not a matter of Trib lawyers doing anything. The next person who graduates bottom of their class who barely passes the bar can hit a home run with this in their first court action. If found liable in a civil action, the judgment will be fines, maybe costs. Any individuals found guilty may get whatever sentence is passed. The speculation that the Trib would lose their franchise over this is like saying if the Tigers start winning they can still take the world series this year, except crazier.
  17. maybe, maybe not!! but he would appreciate the fact that the conversation is so respectful! Always fun talking baseball with you because you always dialogue maturely (you do lose it when someone raps the Brazilian soccer aka football team! ) for a player still on the team - does Koch count on DL - he was the biggest disappointment to me
  18. somewhere in July 2000 Mags surpasssed 21 GIDP for a season - PK has been no where near the worst of anything, and he has had some big and timely hits. granted, not exactly a banner year but if he makes a big finish, all will be ok. Rios, White, Jimenez, and maybe Koch have had far less satisfying seasons. And speaking as a very, very, old person, I am not comfortable with identifying one of our own as the "worst player." Sometimes very good players have really unsucessful seasons, or partial seasons, but then so do I in my life have up and down times. Call it semantics, but there is a big difference between saying "PK has had a less than fulfilling season" and "PK had the worst season." Think about someone saying it to your face - which is a better phrase for futurte potential? You are the worst lover/student/child/player on the team VS you have done well in the past for us and this has been an off-year, yes, and we look for better times the rest of this year and next year. How would Dom Helder Camera phrase it?
  19. like the Queen of England, KW has always spoken in the royal 'we"
  20. there are several schools of thought on that one. one possibility is KW is fully GM - whatever was going down in the early part of the season no longer applies. another possibility: Hemond is pulling the strings. At the moment, I lean towards the first.
