used the answer key that was for grading 3 division championships post-sam-me

1. yes. 2. no 3. I wouldn't.

That sentence is too long. We can say thanks for takin Sosa. Period. The guy was not a worker, not a fit, not anything that fit in with our team. It was always about sam-me, not a team guy. I was so glad when we traded that talented person who wasted it because he was just a weak distraction for us. And it took hom a few years in cubbie ville to turn into the vaudeville entertainment now knows as sam-me. For Palmiero, one of my buds who hates everything cubbie blue once said that the only player the cubs had that he would ever want on he Sox was Palmiero. I think he was right - but I started paying attention to Palmiero a lot more after he said that, since it was the ultimate compliment for a cubs player.

I've been watching Mags' hitting into double plays for years, trying to figure it out. The one time I hate to see him at bat is with a runner at first and 1 out. And from watching this all these years, I think Mags' dps have nothing to do with speed on the bases. It could have been Durham at first, or Jose, or Frank, or last season, Willie Harris, and they are still all out by the same margin when the dp is made. You could have the fastest person ever on the bases in front of Mags and it won't matter than if you ahve the slowest person ever. Mags creams them so hard to the shortstop that it is a simple 6-4-3. So I am not as concerned as putting speed on the bases in front of Mags as a way to reduce the double plays. I like the speed in front of Frank - because when he is hitting he can move them around, and I think that time is real fast upon us. If Frank moves them then Mags has something to work with - hopefully with first open. Doesn't help Mags at all to have P (I never hit in the month of May) K hitting behind him for the last half of 2002 and thus far in 2003.

I like it! and it rewards who is hitting and who isn't

I respect your baseball knowledge, appreciate your opinion, and admire your courage for being the chum in this feeding frenzy.

exactly. No good manager is going to do a sream of consciousness thinking with the media. If there is a two year plan that KW put into effect, then he sticks to the plan. Certainly if something blows up he can deviate, But sticking to a management plan has its merits - especially if you want to avoid a daily JM watch, which any GM wants because that distarcts the teram from the game. KW is doing exactly what is right from a management perspective. Far better than saying, "I am changing my mind daily on that."

Rex, I am not going to argue with you. I like you a lot, respect your knowledge, and I read your words carefully and this is not a reply contra you, just comments in general. A mature adult is aware that the world is quite diverse. Maybe our athletges have been pampered too long into being the demi-gods of their high schools and minor league or college teams and never been exposed to reality because it is all about them. As would be natural in the struggle to make it through the sieve to the next level and to majors. But unless we are talking about someone coming out of a cave, no one has been that unexposed to the diversity of life and the world in which they live. I wasn't all that old when I realized that people came in all kinds and that it was not for me to judge anyone. I expect some degree of sophistication from our well paid gladiators - perhaps wrongly. I went to the Colordao website today and there he still doesn't get it, he thinks he is in trouble for having said his thoughts out loud, not realizing that his thoughts themselves are the problem. I agree totally that the first out player will have to be Jackie Robinson. In saying that, I am not too happy that is the way it is. We should all be beyond that by now. The problem is thinking of "them" versus "us." Odds are overwhelming that Jones has played right along with gay players all of his life. On a team it should all be "us." In life, everyone who reaches maturity should see the "us-ness" of humanity rather than then the "them-ness" and making some people "the other." No 21st century baseball player shoudl be unfamiliar with this concept. Sports is no excuse for ignorance.

somebody from WSI who was at the game said koch yelled 'f*** off' to manuel when he came out of the dugout...its 2nd hand so take that into account.. one thing that did bother me was he was still pounting and made in the dugout after marte got the save...maybe im naive but i would have loved it if koch was the first one out of the dugout to congradulate damaso... i remember the 6-0 lead against texas in '00 where foulke gave up 5 runs and howry had to come in and get the last 2 outs...first one out of the dugout...kieth foulke...i would have loved to to seen billy do the same thing...the idea is to get the W..not get koch the save you supply new info, my brother, and I agree with you completely.

Cw we have been through this before , Rowand is a 4th Of at best ,his time has past we need to look in a different direction hitting good at AAA, does not cut it anymore. If everything you say is right, and you may be, if he is a 4th OF, then still, why hostile to him? He never dogged it, never. He went all out all the time. Some respect for his spirit and regret that he didn't have more of what it took would sound better to me than f*** you sucker. And he'd be a damned good 4th OF that could be very valuable to the team. Lets hope he gets his swing back.
-
Other than the comment on Frank, who has been getting on base, for the rest of your post, very much agreed.
-
why hostile to Aaron? He never dogged it, never sloughed off, never non chalanted his game. He gave it his all. It is sad that he is going down because he has a player's heart, a lot more than some other people have on the team. I hope he is back. Ironic he goes down after he gets a hit and made two plays, one really nice, in the 9th tonight. Good luck to Aaron and hope to see him back - good luck to Willie and hoipes he does well enough to never go down -
-
Of course he does. It is May 1st. Lots of time. But we needed to win tonight and Koch wasn't looking tonight like the man to do it. I wish he sets every save record in history this year.
-
as well said as anyone has tonight. now why did Koch tear up the dugout? Is he mad at himself? That would mean one thing. Is he mad at JM? Then that is another. Unless we know why he did what he did, it doesn't make help me to speculate either way because we just don't know. 4 batters, hit, walk, and two well hit balls to center - JM did the right thing. We needed to beat Oakland tonight, needed to. We have a road trip coming up where we were blown out last year. We needed to win tonight. And JM did what he could to make that happen. Koch walked the guy. Koch gave up the hit. I wish him well - but no need for him torage at anyone but himself, and no point in that unless it helps him get his game straightened around.
-
not out of context - I took what he said in all caps and look what was in between, it was connective material to those thoughts. If everyone practiced sexual responsibility it would be good. But since the dawm of time... AIDS would still disseminate through iv transfusions at least. Being holier than thou does not cure disease.

Thy both have something to offer and as Olivo gains play time Alomar will lose it, but let it happen naturally - no need to disparge one over the other. And Sandy has had some good hits for us. Olivo is the future. Aloma is the mentor. No need to disrespect either one.

Substitute the word "gay" for "black" and we are at 1946 all over again. Players didn't want disruptions in "their" locker room. They didn't want tot ake showers with "them." "They" were wrong. Jones had balls? Then maybe so did George Wallace when he stood in the U of Alabama doorway - or Lester Maadox with his pick ax handles... The "oh has guts to say what he thinks" is not really applicable unless you apply it to maybe Hitler in Mein Kampf, or perhaps any member of the KK with their hatred of blacks, Jews, Catholics, Masons, and gays... A lot of people who spew hatred are nice guys. Timothy McVeigh was very well spoken and polite to his elders. And his comments did speak of hatred of gay men - as I quoted his own words earlier in this thread. And to say he has "never been exposed" to someone who is gay - bulls***. Gays are not some thing that one has to be exposed to... not is one free to hate what one does not acknowledging having known. And I suppose we should never have allowed Jackie Robinson to play because he was such a distraction to his team. Why didn't they stay with their own kind and not disrupt our game?

More logical consistency. There is a - what you may want to call it - a karma, a tao, a spirit of the zen, a "what goes around comes around" - it will hit you hard some day.
-
I hope he gets 60 saves this year - and I hope being taken out wakes him up a bit more
