  1. Now willie gets held up... Looked like he was gonna score on that one. Cora's second guessing himself
  2. for those counting at home, Greinke has only gotten 4 batters out. The Sox have given him 2 outs on the basepaths... Think about that... 50% of his effectiveness comes from our stupidity.
  3. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) Pods is only 6 up on Figgins in the SB race. How about 4 today, Scott? Do people actually care about this? Is there a less sexy crown than the SB champ? Who the F cares. Just win. Quit making outs on the bases.
  4. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) Speaking of those two, I find it odd Guillen only included veterans in this closed door meeting. Aren't Jenks, McCarthy important parts of this club? Article cites 14 were included, which leaves 11 who were obviously thought of by Guillen as not worthy of a pep talk. Just go through the roster and list the obvious veterans: Hernandez Garcia Buehlre Garland Contreras Hermanson Politte Dye Konerko Everett Pierzynski Widger Perez (of course) I'm not sure which remaining player Guillen would label as a veteran, but it's obvious he excluded numerous key players. Just include everyone on the team, yes--even Borchard, and give them the same speech to step it up. May not do anything, but relay onto everyone your expectations down the stretch. Widger had his Grandmother's funeral to attend to. Hawk said he was late to the game today because of it. I doubt he was included.
  5. WE SHOULD SPLIT WITH THEM!!!?@? We just got swept by the Angels, and have lost 2 of our last three to the God Forsaken Royals. Split with the Indians. .... ...
  6. Yeah, I get the feeling that Fathom and I have been two of the biggest pessimists around here lately, but I don't think this game mattered any more than the one before it, or the one tomorrow. We're not done. We could be, but we're not right now. Tonight's loss was just eminently predictable. First inning Freddy against a team he didn't care about, and a bunch of guys who thought they had it won in the 4th inning. The sun will come up tomorrow, and the Sox will play predictably. Buehrle pitching well against a poor team, scoring just enough runs to get the win thanks to a couple of solo shots and will be right with the world again.
  7. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) Perfect.
  8. On the bright side, I won $50 at the pub by saying the Sox were going to lose entering the bottom of the 9th.
  9. QUOTE(Shrunken Slugger @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) It is still the 1st against the Royals.
  10. QUOTE(S720 @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I don't believe in the notion that Garcia only pitches good games against good teams. Garcia flatout stinks right now. As a matter of fact, I don't have any trust in any of our starting pitchers right now. I don't know the reason, but it seems like our starting pitchers have run against a wall or something! And that's not one or two. It's all of them! Against > a 6-ERA pitcher, and we can't even win the game. How the hell are we going to win against MUCH BETTER teams??? Actually I ran a correlation between his ERA, WHIP, and BAA vs. the Opponents wins this season... All of them showed some correlation. His performance goes up when he faces better teams, and comes down when he faces worse ones. Even if it was purely anecdotal it's true.
  11. QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) How do you know freddy doesn't care anymore? His complete nonchalance against teams without sexy names on the front of their jersey.
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) What a joke. Way to be prepared tonight Garcia. Before he even threw a pitch, I wrote "somebody needs to tell Freddy this is the Yankees" on another board. There's no excuse for not caring at this point of the season. And yes, that's what it is. Freddy thinks he can just throw his uniform out there and the Royals will lay down in front of him. It's disgusting.
  13. QUOTE(Shrunken Slugger @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 07:23 PM) It is still the 1st against the Royals. That doesn't change the fact that we haven't come back from this margin in going on 7 weeks now.
  14. f*** FREDDY! Game Over. We haven't come back from a multi run defecit since July 30th.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Washburn would give up a ton of homers at the Cell. Not only that, but Washburn seems to get arm/shoulder injuries at least once a season. For the amount of money he'll get, I wouldn't even consider it. We need more help than just a possible 5th starter. You mean like today.... They had to call up an emergency starter to take his place today.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 11:13 AM) Actually, there was an article about how BMAC is a big time complainer. I believe it was in the trib
  17. QUOTE(bulokis @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) Uribe is getting hot. Great job by AROW. Contreras another great job. Jenks will definitely make our bullpen better now and in the future. Oh yeah, losing streak over!!!!!!!!!!! Geting hot?? He's hitting .487/.535/1.103 in September. 13 extra base hits in just 11 games. He's up to .264/.308/.429 Meanwhile Carl Everett, the guy who's on the team specifically for his bat is hitting .252/.307/.446. Bat Uribe third Ozzie.
  18. Let's all share our favorite memory from the Marc Columbo era. Mine was during his first career start at left tackle. He allowed sacks on two consecutive plays. /fond memories.
  19. Great!@@! So Ozzie's insistence on using Duque has added about 500K to his 2005 salary, and if he gets two more starts, he'll get another 187K-- Also raising his 2006 salary. Sit him the f*** down Ozzie.
  20. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:30 AM) Anyone remember what the incentive clauses were in El Duque's contract... He has a possibility to be up to $8M next year. Ozzie's refusal to sit him could cost the Sox both games in the short term; plus money and hinder trade partners in the long term. Ugly situation. answered my own question... He's earned something like 150K for an innings pitched bonus already.... but he's not in any danger of breaking the bank.

  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 14, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) BTW, Garland is arb eligible. Look for him to get one of those cookie cutter 3yr 21-22M contracts to avoid arb.
