Will Buerhle fix himself before October?
Gene Honda Civic replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This was brought up in the game thread... Hypothesis: Mark Buehrle beats up on the weak teams, but gets killed by good teams. I plugged his splits into a simple spreadsheet, and ran some correlations. ERA vs. Opponents wins = .297 WHIP vs. Opponents wins = .442 There is some correlation. In fact, he does allow quite a bit more baserunners to good teams. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 9, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Hey, do aces usually give up a run two runs after their team scores? Yeah, they routinely allow 4 stright hits. -
"A"s have a particular sound from chicaaaagoans. They're very flat... Also say "both" outloud a few times. Lots of people say "bolth"

Who won the Super Bowl? -
I had an iteresting --well, not interesting. let's say alcohol induced -- thought regarding the naming of huricanes and the like while watching the game at the pub tonight. The general rules as I understand them are, 1. they alternate male/female 2. they go in alphabetical order 3. they become named when they become a tropical storm 4. the list of names comes out at the beginning of the year. It's predetermined. I propose that we change the naming system. Instead of having just one name for each storm, the name should change to reflect the intensity of the storm. Example: Tropical storm = Tropical Storm K Cat 1 = Hurricane Kitten Cat 2 = Hurricane Katrina Cat 3 = Hurricane Kirsty Alley Cat 4 = Hurricane Killer Storm Cat 5 = Hurricane Killer Storm of impending doom 5000 -- Because anything sounds scarier if you put numbers at the end. I really think people would be much more likely to flee "Hurricane Killer Storm of impending doom 5000" than they would some wimpy "Hurrican Katrina."

The Royals will finish them off.

I like the Superfluous Capitalization of 'Number Eight Hawkeyes.' That looks like something I would do. I capitalize things at random too.

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) You're stealing my stat!!!! The last comeback was that Orioles Saturday game when AJP hit the 8th inning homer. If you've posted it in the game threads, I miss it. I never read 'em... I haven't seen you write it elsewhere... I just went searching in the top of the 9th. I couldn't remember the last time we were down by a run and I actually felt like we could come back, so I dug through the box scores. JP Howell threw absolute garbage tonight. Disgusting loss. -

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) Won 7 of our last 8, 8.5 game lead, Magic number of 15. Step away from the ledge, I REPEAT, Step away from the ledge. But if you want to jump off here's a starting point..... The White Sox have not come back from a deficit of more than 1 run to win a game since July 30th. -- I'm not talking about 2 runs with one inning to play either. No, if you've gotten the White Sox down by two runs at any point in the game in the last six weeks, you have yourself a victory. JULY 30TH!!!! -
unless it's the playoffs...

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) I love AJ, but he is FAR from a GG catcher. Agreed, Garcia and Count would have less than half of the WPs if Matheny was behind the plate. Plus he's not exactly throwing out runners at a high percentage (even when Buehrle is on the hill)

Sox 0-for-their last 10 with RISP. It could be worse, but I can't remember that far back. -

QUOTE(SnB @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) who do you think the tornado wants to win on saturday? Iowa 106 Iowa State 2fan>

When I was there, we had this bright sunny late spring day. (not exactly prime Tornado time in Iowa) I remember that I was apartment hunting, and as I drove back to my dorm I could see a nasty storm on the horizon to the west. By the time I parked, and got up to my floor to alert my freinds to look at the cool storm, a funnel cloud had formed. It was still bright and sunny where we were, but you could see this nasty tornado only about 2 miles away. It never got to us. It climbed back up into the cloud, but we did see some huge hail and about 5 minutes of really crazy weather.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) I think he'll still give him a couple of more opps. No doubt he'll get more opportunities. Does he deserve them? Probably not. Ozzie should accept that Duque is a 5 inning pitcher and be done with it. What will more opportunities cost? Maybe Duque's arm. We should be protecting his arm, not seeing how many pitches it can take before it snaps again.
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) I'll answer your question. Ozzie is giving El Duque every chance to prove, now, that can be counted on to pitch 110-120 pitches. If he is unable to do so, which has been the case so far, then that will be figured into the equation when determining who the 4th starter will be in the playoffs. I keep saying that Ozzie has long term goals in mind and keeps giving guys chances to prove what they can and cannot do. When people scream because Ozzie leaves El Duque in for an inning more than they think he should, and say he doesn't know how to handle a pitching staff, they aren't looking at that big picture at all. Question Answered. Last three starts. IP H ER BB K > 90 Pitches 1.2 7 8 1 0

We all know what Mariotti will be writing about tomorrow. But honestly, who is going to pay full price to go see the Sox play the Royals when we all know in one month the will be playing the Yankees, or Red Sox, or Angels in games that actually mean something. If the Sox were actually in a tight race you would see people out at the park against the Royals, but this race has been over for a full month already. People have already scheduled "dental appointments" for October 4th &5th so they can skip work to watch this team. When the Twins and Indians come to town in a couple weeks you'll see people back at the park, because the Sox should be clinching around that time. I'm not going to any more regular season games this year. Does that make me less of a Sox fan? f*** no. I didn't go to any in April either, does that mean I'm a bandwagoner? f*** no. I went to all of my games from May 10th to August 17th. I'll be there on the October 5th.
