  1. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) I also don't think the Cubs would be willing to give him or Alex Pie up. Probably David Kelton if anyone. I don't know what we really need now. I think KW should wait until at least June to look at a trade. Pie = Felix = Untouchable. Kelton = Out of options. He sailed through waivers before opening day = no trade value.
  2. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) Just curious, what was his final pitch count? The same as Zito's, 116
  3. He just faced a team with a f'n horrible offense right now.
  4. I'll beleive it when I see it, which is at least 4 years away. I'm not holding my breath
  5. Jugger, Can you at least acknowledge that fielding stats are pitching dependent? Double plays should almost entirely be credited to the pitching staff. Garland's got a career high GB/FB ratio. El Duque, a fly-ball pitcher, is pitching like a sinkerballer. The entire Sox staff is putting the ball in play on the ground. Comparing Uribe(with the small sample size GB all-stars) and Valentin (with the smoke-and-mirrors 2000 staff) is apples and oranges.
  6. QUOTE(ptatc @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) I was listening to the game on XM. They use the home team broadcast. the tigers broadcasters were commenting on the hot start of the Sox. They said the hot start won't last because Contreas and Garland won't be consistent, Hernandez won't make 25 starts and they have bad infield defense especially that shortstop. :banghead That's f***in crazy.... Watch the guy play. He's EASILY the best SS in the ALC... Uribe>Guillen>Berroa>Bartlett>Peralta
  7. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) I worry about them. They have all left-handed bats really and teams lefties are killing Cotts right now and Marte can't work all the time. Buehrle has us covered but I worry about our other set-up men and Garland against all of those lefties, not to mention Shingo. Freddy didn't pitch very well against Oakland last year when we faced them and the A's have seen him a lot. Check the splits... Garland has made lefties look foolish. It's appeared like they have trouble picking up his change specifically. Anytime you strike out Ichiro! by as much as Garland did in the first vs. SEA, you know a guy has got something up his sleeve.
  8. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Same here, Gene. Over/Under on how many times in the series, Hawk says, "You can do anything when you got three 20-game winners..."? The most ironic thing about that statement, is it pretty much encapsulates the White Sox early season success. OK, there's not a 20-game winner on the staff, but you've got 5 guys doing pretty damn good impressions of 20-game winners. You can stand to bat .200 with RISP, and have an OBP of .300 as a team, with a pitching staff like that.
  9. I'll be listening to Rooney and Farmer. Hawk is insufferable during A's games.
  10. This is hilarious... The Official™ Yankees/Jaret Wright/What the @#$@#$!!!!! Thread over at BTF
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) And if we picked Roby there is someone else you would complain JA shoulda picked. I'm pretty consistent on JA. I didn't say anything on Harris last year. I thought he would be a good player. I ripped Tank Johnson. I liked the Vasher pick. I defended the Krenzel pick. I'm honest, not biased. You can go back and look it up.
  12. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) Nice...I just noticed Courtney Roby, a WR from Indiana, got drafted by the Titans in the 3rd round. Good luck to him; though I can't root for him, when he's playing Indy. I noticed that too, I would rather have Roby than 2nd-round-raw-project-special-teams-potential WR.
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) Wow, that's not good. He was off to such a great offensive start too.. He folded, nothing announced, but he was down for a few minutes and they held his arm close to his body when he eventually walked off. I guess that's the end of the Valentin to the Cubs rumors.
  14. I loved Ellis Hobbs in the few games I saw him play. Little suprise that New England is where he ended up.
  15. Valentin just broke his hand/wrist or something... He's in a lot of pain on the ground right now.
  16. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) I don't know. Mel Kiper was really high on him. Has there been a single player in teh draft that Kiper didn't kiss his ass?
  17. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 05:54 PM) Ran a 4.42 so I guess he'll team up with Berrian to be our burners. YAY, fast guys who can't catch. I'm excited.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) With 18 wins in Apr worst case is 88 wins. Best case 100+. Other teams have done it. Oakland's done it with less talent than we have. It's entirely possible we could finish with the best record in the majors. That's enough optimism for me http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/st...date=2003-04-24
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 12:11 AM) For the most part, hitters really can't control thier BA on balls in play(BABIP), i.e. not HR's or K's. Ichiro is the obvious exception, and speedsters/bunters tend to have a higher BABIP. Essentially you can use BABIP, along with your knowledge of what type of hitter you're comparing, to tell if a hitter has been lucky or not. After tonight, Rowand has a BABIP of .250 compared to a league average of .297 -- His average should come up. Duh Crede, who you might think with his recent hot streak may be a little lucky, has a BABIP of .298 or essentially league average. -- His average hasn't been attributed to luck. Surprise. Last year Rowand had a BABIP of .341 compared to a league average of .303, and Crede had a BABIP of .247. In other words, crede is a good candidate for a rebound, and Rowand is a good candidate for regression. Formula for BABIP = [H-HR]/[AB-HR-K] -- Obviously not everything can be explained by subtracting homeruns and strikouts, but it's a good indicator. I musta messed up, I tossed some s*** in a spreadsheet, and Crede's current BABIP is .333
