At the current pace, I project the White Sox first selection to come at about 3:15, or when they'd usually have 8-9 picks in the books.

hurry up and wait!

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) Not sure how TV will affect the first round, but it's usually 10-20 seconds in between picks. It's 5 minutes now. And I've read speculation that they don't expect to get much farther than 5 or 6 rounds today when they used to do about 19 on the first day.

QUOTE(BB2ZZ @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) Leo Daigle was nearly 30 when he put up those big numbers with the Warthogs. He was a liability in the field looking at the number of errors. Collaro kept pace with the old guy at 22, maybe THAT'S why Daigle got booted. While I agree with you that Daigle was a scrub -- I remember shouting down those following his progress at the time -- He wasn't "nearly 30," more like 25. And when you say that Collaro "kept pace with him" you neglect to mention that he struck out twice as often, while walking half as much, posting a sub-.300 OBP, and getting out-OPSed by .275 points. Do yourself a favor, and quit looking at only the HR column. It's not going to translate into anyway at the higher levels until his control of the strikezone improves dramatically. That's all you have to look at regarding Collaro. Wily Mo Pena is the only (mildly) successful prospect that I can come up with with K/BB resembling Collaro's. And Pena's K/BB was 4/1 while being one of the youngest players in his league and being rushed because of the stupid guaranteed deal the Yankees gave him. Collaro doesn't even compare well to him.

White Sox vs Yankees, 6/7/07 (L)
Gene Honda Civic replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2007 Season in Review
I see we're already writing Thursday's game off as a loss. I like it! -
I made some on Memorial Day that turned out pretty damn good, but I know I can make better. I used my webber kettle grill, with a mix of lump and cherry wood (soaked). I tossed on some McCormick rub, had a bit of an apple flavor. I was shooting for a three hour cook time, but when I checked on them at first, I knew that wasn't going to happen. It was too hot, and I ended up pulling them in under 90 minutes. They weren't falling off the bone, but they were still quite tender and tasted great. In the winter I make an oven version about once a month... http://www.cookingforengineers.com/recipe/...Ribs---Two-Ways Except I cook 'em at about 275 and for at least 3 hours, and have begun experimenting with some liquid smoke to add some flavor.

BP's Kevin Goldstien has the Sox taking Tim Alderson. Of course, he also has Rick Porcello dropping to Detroit with the next pick.

QUOTE(easyw @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:23 AM) For years I've been hearing again and again that this guy is NOT a prospect. BULL! He IS a great prospect (still needs to get the strikeout rate down)! Name for me one prospect who has succeed in the major leagues despite owning a minor league K/BB ratio of over 6:1... Until you can do that, I'll continue to state that Collaro is not a prospect, let alone a great one.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) 0 walks? When someone posted stats in the 5th inning for Floyd in another thread I could have swore it said 4 walks. He hasn't allowed more than 2 walks in a start since April.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) That's' Donald Veal, the Cubs top pitching prospect coming into the season, getting smoked by Birmingham. And FWIW, Jeff Samardzija hasn't been a whole lot better with an ERA near 6.00 and almost as many walks as strikeouts (16-to-20 in 50+ IP). Believe it or not their system is actually worse than ours, although they're going to add a real impact bat on Thursday in Josh Vitters. Veal was a former Sox pick that didn't sign. Also what a game for Collaro. I still don't think he's anything of a prospect, but at least he got to have fun singlehandedly beating the AA version of the Cubs in extras.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) Was it Paulo Orlando? Even if Owens was "rated" faster than Orlando, he'd see nothing but his back in a foot race.
-
QUOTE(HeGone33 @ Jun 5, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) So can someone maybe find some speed ratings somewhere? I know Jerry was rated fastest in our minor league system. You are wrong.

I checked in, the game was in delay after 2.5 innings. I suppose they didn't update the box score to indicate that Gio had gotten an out in the 3rd. He's 100% fine.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:44 PM) The major league talent you're receiving for Dye will only be here for 2008. Unless somehow Williams (or another general manager) is willing to extend him. We have to wait several weeks to see how this team fares against the National Leauge. If they're unable to make up significant ground, it's about time Sox fans realize this team likely won't contend in 2008. Abreu's addition, IMO, is uselesss if we're 8+ out of the division and 6+ out of the wildcard with five teams to jump. It'd just be Williams delaying a decision in RF. As I said earlier, I can understand it (if NYY pays a portion of his salary), but it's third behind trade and holding onto him in preferable options. I have to leave for work right now, so I can't validate myself, but I don't believe this is correct. I thought first round picks can still be obtained, in addition to a sandwich pick, for a Type A player. It's just the percentage of people considered Type A has decreased. You're correct. Type B compensation is only sandwich picks. Dye would have to pick his play up to be a Top 20 percent player though. It's a two year system though, so that should help. Buehrle also needs to keep pitching well all season to erase his brutal '06 and become a Top 20%er. Iguchi might have to pick it up to be a type B. The difference between Type A and Type B: Type A gets 2 picks (15-75) Type B gets 1 pick -- (around the 50's) Updated per Balta's post above.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) Fathom...for once, you and I are in incredible, total agreement. And I still want the draft picks if we don't trade Dye. Draft picks we wouldn't get with Abreu. I'm pretty sure the new compensation is down to 1 pick, and not another teams first rounder. They're all Sandwich picks. This also limits a players trade value since the trading team doesn't have the option of holding onto him for two extra picks when they walk, they only have one. So that means holding on to a departing Type A player will only net you a pick from 31-60, instead of 2 picks from 16-75. Type B player get no compensation, right? I've forgotten already.

rowand to the sox?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) No sarcasm whatsoever. I am all for bringing Rowand back, period. I think his contribution to the team went way beyond his measurable skills, and I think that's what everybody's forgetting as they look at him in fantasy baseball terms. So where was his unmeasurable contribution to push the Sox over the edge in '03 (88 wins) (Carl Everett was stealing ABs in CF) and '04 (84 wins)? Or for that matter where was it for the Phillies last year, besides on the bench? -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 02:25 PM) Adding the right player could spark the offense. Remember what Julio Cruz did for the 2003 team. No, Perhaps you were thinking of Joe BreadandWater? That was one helluva spark. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) I'd do a MacDougal for Rowand trade, if we can extend Rowands contract for a reasonable price... So you'd give up MacDougal for the right to be the only team that gets to bid for Rowand? What about the alternative, trading MacDougal for something of value, or hoping MacDougal can turn it around, then signing Rowan when there is no talent-cost to be paid. In one scenario you have Rowand, but no MacDougal or whatever he brought in return. In the other, you've got Rowand plus MacDougal or whatever he brought in return. For a team that'll be lucky to win 80 games, you don't make a trade hoping to win 82. No MacDougal for Rowand. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:49 PM) BINGO! WINNAH. I am 100% behind this idea for exactly the same reasons. I think Rowand, for his clubhouse attitude alone, could turn this team around, and the fans would go NUTS. Myself included. DO IT. Mac is a cheap price to pay. I seriously hope I missed some sarcasm here. If not. DRINK! -
QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:53 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/draft2007/co...&id=2892330 Good article looking back at the 2002 draft. I found it interesting I'm reasonably sure the Sox have produced more major leaguers out of that draft than any other team. Ring, Reed, McCarthy, Logan, Tracey, and Marsall have all made the bigs. Obviously, that's a lot of marginal talent, but the Sox are first in something! Quanity over quality baby! Also 49th rounder, Fernando Hernandez, having a great year in AA, will need to be protected next year and still has a shot as a reliever.

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) I could have swore he had more issues than that and that is why the Yankees? left him unprotected in the expansion draft. Then the Marlins let him go. He had some conflicts with the manager in Houston. He had some anger issues and supposedly wife beating issues in Boston. His WIFE beat his kids, but you know, you could just keep calling him a wife beater.

rowand to the sox?
Gene Honda Civic replied to beleiveinbrian44's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
It's still a bad deal. Rowand is a free agent. The Sox aren't winning anything this year. I have no problem with Rowand coming back in '08, but if we're going to trade anything from our major league roster (or from the minors for that matter) it better improve the club long-term, not put a band-aid on where a tourniquet is needed. -
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 4, 2007 -> 12:00 PM) Felix Diaz? Is that really the best comparison? Masset has major league stuff, you cant deny that. He's got AAA numbers, you can't deny that.
