  1. Inexcusable. An insult to fans that demand a winning product. Let's close our eyes and hope the peter pan and tinkerbell can revive our offense and magically fix the bullpen. Why the hell is KW even asking Konerko for advice anyway? What the f*** is he supposed to say. As I wrote on my blog Assuming KW meant everything he said in that article, and from the bit I saw on CSN, I'm now rooting for this team to lose until the deadline. Go ahead call me a bad fan. I want a competitive team back on the field as soon as possible, and that isn't going to happen by waiting for the outfield fairies to get back.
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) f***, I missed Gallardo's debut for the Brewers. Anybody see it? Final line looks very impressive. Good that they finally brought him up -- now Gio can take over as the minor league strikeout king. He got passed for second place when he had that rain shortened outing (1K?) followed by a low strikeout game in his next time out. Kershaw leads in K/9.

  4. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:44 PM) I would love to see LF Sweeney-CF Erstad (at 6M as his contract stipulates or better yet, Rowand at maybe the same price)-RF Ichiro. That answers everything. That's a pretty terrible (offensive) outfield. Not as bad overall as the Fields/Terrero/Sweeney outfield I saw proposed above, but really bad, 4th place, maybe even 5th place bad. Your preferred outfield is almost guaranteed to hit fewer than 20 HRs as a group, and would feature only one player who gets on base at an above average rate.
  5. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:21 PM) Completely disagree. Sweeney projects as a career-corner-outfielder. Don't pussyfoot around and put the kid in CF for a year or two, then have him platoon for a while, then maybe send him back down to work in the corner-outfield positions..etc. We've seen this story time and time again. The kid is going to be one of the White Sox outfielders of the future. Reinsdorf will not sign marquee free agents at every position on the ballfield. There is going to have to be some league-minimum production at at least one position nearly every year. Next year, it looks like Fields and Sweeney--you have the holes at 3B and LF respectively taken care of, invest elsewhere. CF is the more difficult position to play. It would be "pussyfooting" around to put him in RF/LF to start with a second offensive black hole like Erstad manning CF. There is a reason that Sweeney has taken almost every start at CF in Charlotte since the All-Star break last year, and it's not because they intend to use him as a LFer when he's eventually given a starting position. Using your logic, the Sox have hurt the development of Sweeney for the last calendar year by allowing him to play all but about 10-15 games in CF. They're trying to maximize his value to the team, which would mean he mans CF until he becomes a defensive liability there.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:05 PM) Truth be told: Sweeney is the right man for the job in 2008. Surrounded by the proper CF and RF, Sweeney's production and defense will pay dividens for this ballclub--as early as next year. Sweeney's bat won't rate as average anywhere but CF next season. (Think Alex Rios in '04/'05) He figures to be able to competently be able to cover CF for at least a few years before he loses a little bit of range. Short of signing one of the big name free agent CFers next year, if Sweeney is being penciled in anywhere (and given his stagnation this year, that's not a guarantee) it should be CF with the Sox looking to find replacements at the easier to fill LF and RF posistions. (Though I fully expect Erstad to be back taking up one of those spots)
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:32 PM) The fat guy who plays EH on my softball team plays a better LF than Matt Murton. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:39 PM) Imagine Podsedniks reads with Murtons speed. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) 2000 Carlos Lee maybe... QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:41 PM) I get it. You're playing with Adam Dunn. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) +100 pounds... Like I said, Murton's defensive woes are overstated.
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:34 AM) Carl Everett was having an all star season when KW traded away not the greatest package to get him. I really don't think 3 months of Jermaine Dye is going to net more than a B prospect or 2. It's naive to think that would make decisions based on only two months of play. With that in mind... Carl Everett hit .265/.335/.465 in the 2.5 seasons immediately preceding his '03 trade to the White Sox. Jermaine Dye has hit .283/.347/.543 in his 2.5 seasons on the southside. There's a bit of performance difference between the two.
  9. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 01:26 AM) Well I don't know how tough the Southern League is, but if it's easy, he was having an easier time than virtually everyone else in it last year. "The 6-foot-0, 170-pounder ranked second last season in the Southern League in runs scored (79), fourth in hits (140) and tied for fourth in average (.292)" Anyway, this guy could be our Pablo Ozuna....er..... our Andy Gonzalez, by tomorrow. Remember when Jerry Owens hit 330 in the Southern League. Or two years before when Jeremy Reed hit 400+ in the southern league?
  10. Murton's defensive woes are vastly overstated here. Every fielding metric I've seen rates him as an average or better LFer. UZR, which I think is the best system, had him at 11 runs above average in LF last year, and right at average in '05 and '07. LFers are bad fielders in general, and he's slightly less bad than is expected. His offense from a LFer is almost exactly average, slightly better AVG/OBP, slightly lower SLG. I don't understand why people would be opposed to a LFer with the same defensive deficiencies (not defiances) as Podsednik, who rates very similar to murton in LF, but who provides more pop, more OBP, and more health.
  11. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) You we're the one getting married, Cheat? No way. I can't really ever imagine myself married. Though maybe if things had worked out differently that night... We're friends now, which would have seemed strange at the time. I don't think I've ever had so much to drink as I did in that three day weekend. Between the wedding and drowning my sorrows for 2 straight days, I'm surprised I didn't end up in a hospital with Alcohol poisoning. And, I'm deleting the previous post. It doesn't need to be on the internet for all to see. I don't air dirty laundry. That was out of character.
  12. There was a very short story here.
  13. looking around the interwebs, it seems that most teams have signed a bunch of their '07 draft class already. Though it's mostly after the 4th round... Post any info you have here about the Sox draft signings. PS. Minnesota signed their 1st rounder for $750K, which is $200K less than the lowest bonus from the '06 first round.
  14. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Trading Thome would free up somewhere between $7-$7.5M next year. FYI. Good luck replacing his offensive production for next season. trade Thome. Sox score 420 runs next season.
  15. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:28 PM) A deal with Morrow in it would be awesome. I'm not too sure about Clement right now since his BA is at .244 in AAA, worse than Anderson, Sweeney, etc. However, I might be intrigued if he's improved his defense. Anyone know if he has made strides in that department at all? It's a hitters league in the PCL too. The average OPS is just a hair under .800. In the IL, the average OPS is a hair over .700. This isn't a fluke either. It's like that every year. There are a ton of small parks and and some high-altitude stops on that circuit.
  16. QUOTE(Fantl916 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:21 PM) Ummm Seattle would be an amazing trading partner. Bill Bavasi = not so intelligent sometimes... Vidro for Rafael Soriano? yuck... Vidro was traded for Snelling. Soriano was traded for Ramirez
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) How about Clement, Morrow, and another B prospect for Buehrle? I'd do that. That's still Zero players who would help the '08 team. And I would only consider Morrow (who they're not trading because he's an integral part of their pen) an impact player after he returned to AAA and started 10+ games. He's working on something like 2 years now without going more than 3 innings in a game.
  18. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 13, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Gammons on BBTN says the Mariners getting Buehrle would be their dream for the deadline, and if Kenny makes him avaliable, Seattle will be very interested. But they have only one trade chip (two if you count Morrow), and they're not giving up Adam Jones for Buehrle. They probably wouldn't even do it for Garland, who who would be under their control through '08. That would be the best possible scenario (with the M's) for the Sox. Trade Garland for Jones and resign Buehrle.
  19. QUOTE(BB2ZZ @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) And quit telling me to quit looking at power numbers, thats what sells tickets, not walk to SO ratios. Collaro will never sell a ticket for the White Sox.
  20. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Jun 12, 2007 -> 06:48 PM) Did Kenny get an MRI on Freddy? If not how would he know? Yes, we all knew something was up and so should have thier scouts. No. All current medical records have to be swapped before a trade is completed. Freddy's last MRI was sometime before March '06 when his velocity disappeared. Freddy kept saying he was fine.
  21. No hits is nice and all, but Bard was recently demoted, and still can't find the strike zone.
  22. Here's what's funny... That was written on APRIL 4th of 2006. 14 months ago. He's been hurt the whole time, and we all knew it.
  23. I like open endings in general, but that was a little too abrupt. I needed another line of dialog with meadow at the table -- and it didn't have to be of any significance -- pan back, fade to black.
  24. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 11, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Rick Sutcliffe was talking about Vazquez tipping his pitches tonight, and he's right. Could be a big reason why he always gets lit up the 3rd time through. No sutcliffe was talking about Vazquez doing something with his head/balance point in relation to his record. I believe his thesis was that Vazquez' numbers were good, but he didn't win a lot of games because of his head/balance point issue. Sut made no mention of run support, because the only stat that matters is W, and clearly Vazquez isn't good at getting his offense to score more runs.
