NBA Ref Fixes Games for the Mob
Gene Honda Civic replied to vandy125's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
3 minutes of searching on Google, and you find that the infamous 2002 game 6 was reffed by #27 Dick Bavetta , #16 Ted Bernhardt , and #26 Bob Delaney. -
QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 20, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) does it really matter... It isn't like he will be playing in a pitchers dream park when he comes up. The dimensions in Charlotte aren't very different then the ones in the cell (judging by gameday), where he will play half of his games. I could live with him hitting 15-20 homers at home but only 5-10 on the road as long as he can keep the average, obp, and run producing up. Also, Sweeney rocks my socks. You're right, it's a complete anomaly that when Sweeney was in large park (B'ham) he was only able to hit 1 HR, hit 7 when he was in a moderate hitters park in A-ball, and has hit a total of 5 HR on the road since.

Why the heck not Eric Byrnes next year...
Gene Honda Civic replied to Wanne's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) $$$ That's why He's putting up a .312/.369/.497/.866 line (all career highs) w/ 23 SB in his age 31 season. Byrnes can play CF and give you some damn good defense as well. On this date last year he was hitting .291/.349/.518. He then hit .240/.271/.441 the rest of the season..... I don't see much difference this year. And I suspect his overall season numbers will look very similar to both his career and '06 line. And his '08-12 lines will likely be worse. He's not even a remotely good singing at anything over 2 years/$15M -
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 19, 2007 -> 09:27 PM) isn't that 4 home runs for sweeney this week? which was preceded by a stretch where Sweeney walked about 8 times in 6 games. You could tell he was seeing the ball well, but the results (outside of OBP) really weren't there. I'd still feel better if these HRs came on the road. That's 22 AAA HRs for Sweeney, 5 of them have come away from the bandbox.

How about Matsui for 2B next year?
Gene Honda Civic replied to harfman77's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jul 12, 2007 -> 08:24 AM) Kazuo Matsui was a huge bust in NY with the Mets but has had a nice time in Colorado after working out some problems in the minors. His numbers over the last two years: 2006 Col 32 113 22 39 6 3 2 19 10 27 8 1 .345 .392 .504 .896 2007 Col 46 189 39 59 10 5 3 21 11 30 16 2 .312 .350 .466 .816 He is an option at least, I am not sure how his defense is, but I remember he started as a shortstop but moved to 2B when Reyes came up. You're freakin' crazy. In two and a half season's for the Mets, he posted a .256/.308/.363. He goes to Colorado and posts an 850 OPS over the span of a year, and suddenly you want the guy? He's the same freakin' player! Since he left NY, he's batted .268/.307/.398 away from Coors Field. How is that going to fix anything? -
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2007 -> 01:47 PM) Are you referring to Floyd Bannister? Bannister had a 12.27 ERA after his first two starts with the White Sox.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) If he can get that breaking ball down a little more, as in below the knees, he will be solid as hell. Probably will need to add an offspeed pitch though; that fastball-slider would be outstanding out of the pen, but isn't doing much in the rotation. That was major league bullpen stuff right now.... certainly better than some of the guys we've got out there right now. I'm looking at you Masset and Buckvich. But like you said, he'll need three pitches to be a starter at the majors, and we didn't see one there. He'll get by all the way through the minors with those two pitches though.

Mark Buehrle Agrees to 4-yr, 56 mil with escalator clause

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 8, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) So it's a $19M player option if he's traded? That's the only way to get to $75M from $56M. Not consistent with what we heard yesterday.. Nah... It's probably more like 16-17 in the option year, but it also raises his salary in the non-option years (but after a trade) to 16-17M. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 09:43 PM) I just want something to happen. They also remarked that the postgame was "interesting". I'm just really hoping something has happened. Nothing's gonna happen. I think Melton was just referring to the fact that he expected some fun Ozzie antics. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 09:56 PM) Good news keeps on rolling in, Gio lasts 3 innings tonite. Could be like DLS, an All-Star game thing... I keep playing with BR's Play Index... The two games are the first since this brutal Cleveland series in 1999 [Game 1 | Game 2 | Game 3] that the Sox have allowed 12 or more runs in back-to-back games. Some good names there (Navarro, Baldwin, Parque) -

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:41 PM) watching fields and dye at the plate is night and day. you can tell which one is battling every pitch and which one has already given up. Up to the minute.... Fields has hit .293/.356/.522 since June 8th. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) I have the same thread starting record as these two guys but here's a hint; bet the under. Please don't suck Gavin. Twins pregame show talks about how much of a Twin killer Thome is, but the graphic underneath says in his career against the Twins he's 2-14 with 6 BB's. He entered the day, 2-14 against the Twins this season, but is now 3-18 w/ a HR and 7BB. Entering today, Thome had a .313/.408/.628 career line with 46 HR against the Twins. Among active players, only Frank Thomas has more HR (50) against the Twins. Thome figures to end his career being the all-time leader in HR against the Twinkies. -

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 01:18 AM) So it doesn't matter when he comes into a tie game and blows the lead? you'll be sorry. After tonight, Jenks has allowed a total of 5 extra-base hit in his career with the game tied. -

Cintron is great -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 01:03 AM) BTW, anyone else sick of seeing Josh Fields strikeout? Not at all. The alternative is Alex Cintron needing to go around the horn to get the ball to first base, and still hitting worse than Fields. Fields has shown some degree of improvement (specifically in his control of the strike zone) at every level in the minor leagues. I've always questioned his ability to hit major league pitching, but there's no way he's going to hit if you give up on him now. Let him make the adjustment. It's not like the Sox are playing for anything this year. The alternatives aren't any better.

Egbert is currently second in the White Sox organization with 103 innings pitched. I'm not big on using minor league ERA to predict future MLB performance, but you've got to like the fact that Eggy's ERAs have read like this: 3.14, 2.67, 2.88 in his three full-seasons of minor league ball.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 30, 2007 -> 12:58 PM) He's been up since 2000 without being sent down, so I would think it kicks in at 2010 the latest. Anyways even so, I reallly don't care what bull s*** they give us, if Buehrle will take 4/56 and you won't let him have it over a NTC, then your cheap. KW and Jerry really put the wool over our eyes with 2005 but their true colors have both come out in 2007. Buehrle will reach 7 years of service time just after the All-Star break. He came up July 17th (i believe) of 2000, and has been here ever since. The 10/5 rights would kick in on July 17th (i think) of 2010, the third year of the contract.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 09:49 PM) So lets recap the headlines of Cowley: Wednesday: Buehrle extension near Source says change of heart has lefty, Sox on road to long-term contract Thursday: Buehrle deal: Now or never EXTENSION UPDATE | Williams said to be firm on Friday deadline to keep lefty with Sox Friday: The big deal will get done Everyone will benefit when Sox finally get Buerhle to sign on the dotted line. and now people are saying Saturday's headline will say the deal is there is no deal. Come on... is this a scam to sell papers, or a guy who is guessing like everyone else? I think we just need to wait to hear from KW, MB, or MB's agent. It's not a scam. WSI knows all.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) For comparison BMac didn't K as many guys when he was in Kanny, but walked fewer. Gio Kd more (13.11 K/9 lol) but gave up more hits. Both of those guys had WHIPs just above 1 so DLS is at least on par with those guys (though Gio was 2 years younger) but both got promoted earlier. It sounds like DLS's stuff is better than those two though. Well I suppose his stuff is equivalent to Gio's, since he's a lefty. The Sox have been stingy with merit-based promotions this season. It's all been organizational moves. -

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 29, 2007 -> 02:39 PM) So.. Kenny imposed a deadline for Mark to agree to a contract, but didn't tell Mark. I suppose that's as logical as anything else that's been posted on this topic. You can do it.. I have faith. chisox, where is this article from? TIA. If Kenny did set a deadline, and didn't tell Mark. I'll help Mark pack. Steff, stop taking everything Buehrle says so literally. He's obviously tried to keep this out of the press since negotiations first started back in Nov/Dec. He's the center of/reason for most of the misinformation regarding the process. He and the agent even were denying any talks had taken place as late as 36 hours ago. Buehrle has been playing with the media, even to the point of joking about retirement. I know I didn't believe any of the statements that said there were no negotiations taking place, why should we believe these? I don't believe that there's any hard deadline, but it's got to get done as soon as possible so the franchise can move forward with a trade of one of the starters. Buehrle wants to get it done as soon as possible. Kenny wants to get it done as soon as possible. It will get done in the next few days. No packing necessary.
